What are tips for quetzal? Tips and strategies for quetzal in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Description:
To tame the sky, is to tame a creature that lives in it, and is at the peak of it’s skillset when spending time in the very same skies. For everyone, there is always a contender between each of the three avions on the Island, and some are so indecisive that they would rather tame all three than choose one and then leave behind the other 2 once the deed is done.
But perhaps none rival Quetzalcoatlus conchapicem, the largest of the three, but yet a member of the existing avions native to the island that underestimates its own strength when wild, so much so to the point that it would much rather flee than fight, assuming itself to be much more frail than it actually is, and as a result is friendly to passerby survivors out for a quick fly, yet very timid at the same time.
Its timid, “no risks allowed” personality and strategy has lead it to resort to a life of casual fishing, scavenging from corpses left behind by a predator that found another, more tasty-looking meal just after killing the first one, and because it does not particularly attempt to kill innocent passive creatures, may even resort to hunting insects if desparate.
It also highly overreacts when confronted by survivors, flaring up in defense in an attempt to make itself look bigger than it actually is, despite appearing to be well aware that this is a fruitless effort.
Generally, one knows how tough their Quetzal is by how many (tranq) arrows they have to chuck at it before its body finally gives up and becomes overwhelmed by the sheer amount of torpor. Some Quetzals are packed with such a high capacity for torpor that it puts even what is typical of most Brontos to shame.
Domesticated
There are as many risks as there are rewards in the scenario of taming Quetzalcoatlus conchapicem; it could fall into water if the timing between shots is slightly off.
And while torpor scales with damage dealt, making high quality bows ideal for taking on such a behemoth of an avion, the Quetzal’s own personal physical capacity has to be taken into consideration before one can just fire away, not to mention that just something as simple as one Raptor just might be the one bad apple that spoils the whole barrel.
However, when done properly, taming Quetzalcoatlus conchapicem yields a reward that the term “golden” alone cannot describe, especially if the individual Quetzal in question proves to be particularly durable.
Fishing, especially for the more dangerous Cnidaria omnimorph, is made much easier, provided one stays close to the water without touching, and the more harmless species are also easy to swipe at thanks to a fairly large beak.
On top of that, Quetzals have enough strength on their pelt-covered backs to where it is feasible to use them for mining trips in mountains that are rounded off by a plateau (provided your island has any), which is a funny thing considering Quetzals typically mate and breed in mountains. All in all, Quetzalcoatlus conchapicem when tamed, is a loyal flying giant that just might be the start of YOUR industrial revolution, due to its capabilities to make gathering and mining easier.
Rare flowers don't make them aggressive.
To the guy who said quetzals were ailens and even spawned in the air, there is a like 0.1 second period where they spawn into the land and are on the ground before starting to fly.
For some reason on Ark Mobile, it does not allow me to shoot off an Argentavis when grappled. I think that is a bug on my phone. Anyways, I found the easiest way to get a Quetzal is to ride a Tapejara with multiple seats on the saddle, and then go to second seat. When you do this, shoot the Quetzal and use the spy glass to target him. If you keep shooting the Quetzal while it runs, you should not have to whistle passive for your Tapejara. Then, grab some meat and a lot of bio toxin. Boom, you have your new Quetzal.
If you don't know where they spawn that often go to the red obelisk and scan the area for me this is the most common place I find my quetz
How to tame a quetzal
1. Get a tapejara (any tapejara you can find)
2. Get 50 tranquilizers ammo you have
3. get 70+narcotics or 50+bio toxin
4.get on the tapejara
5.find a quetzal
6. Go in the passenger seat
7.command the tapejara to attack target
8. Shoot at the quetzal while chasing it until it’s knocked out
9. Harvest meat to feed the quetzal
10.keep feed it narcotics or bio toxin
11.protect it from any dangerous creatures
That’s how I got a quetzal
If you frequent the redwoods on ragnarok you can sometimes find them upriver trapped around the edge of the southern lake cliffs. Just so people can find the easier knockout location for taming.
Use honey.
Quetzal aren't attracted to rare flowers but they will try eating any honey you drop. So put the honey in your hotbar, fly slightly above the quetzal and use the honey. The quetzal will fly after the honey until its out of range.
Rinse and repeat to easily lure quetzal to the ground.
(You can store honey on fishing rods to reset the spoil timer)
Once it's grounded you can either build a trap around it (since quetzals struggle to actually eat the honey on the ground) or lure it into a pre built trap.
I managed to trap one with only 6 honey but id recommend bringing 20 or so to be safe.
It's also worth noting that a wild quetzal will never attack under any circumstances, so you can build the trap out of thatch to save resources. (Just make sure to keep other stuff away, like by using wooden spikes for example)
If your building the trap beforehand I'd recommend 16 thatch foundations in a square, 16 ceilings likewise and alternating columns of walls (like a birdcage) the quetzal needs around a 2 by 2 gap to fit through (I think) so avoid that and your good.
Height wise make the trap 3 or 4 walls tall, I think they technically CAN fit in 2 high but it's unlikely. Leave one side open for it to fly into and once you've got the quetzal close toss some honey in and place those last few walls to trap it.
Honestly I'm shocked how little this method is talked about, trapping the quetzal allows you to control where it gets knocked out so theres no worry of it falling in the water or directly into a rex's gaping maw. Plus it's honestly really easy.
Only downside is that it's hard to drag the quetzal long distances (length wise), so you have to build the trap near where you found it.
TLDR:
Use honey to lure quetzal to ground then trap in thatch box.
For people about lvl 40: these things spawn at the oblisks but the red one is normally most found on use grappling hook and hook your pteranodon’s anus then whistle attack and shoot and whistle passive and repeat use rex kibble and not meat since THE DAM MEAT TAKES 50 YEARS if your reading this i dare you to feed it with stimberries (☝︎ ՞ਊ ՞)☝︎If you want to save da nubs thx for reading this long as comment lol -Drax
For some odd reason on mobile, they have an irresistible urge to fly over the redwoods on low torpor. I lost 3 quetzals to terror birds or dire bears.
On any of the wyvern maps you can get your friend or whoever to stand on the back of the wyvern while you fly it and they knock it out
New easy solo taming method
Vote up so others can see
1.when you are in Range of a quetz Jump off your flying mount and activate your parachute
2.whistle your mount to follow and neutral
3.shoot the Quetz with a grappling hook
4.drag yourself to the quetz
5.now you can easily tranq it out
(6. if it gets unconscious over water you can just tow it to the land while flying)
Why does everyone say that you can only tame it with a Tapejara and honey? I tamed one without a Tapejara or honey and only used a Longneck Rifle with shocking darts on my Rhyniognatha with ten Exceptional Kibble. Let others know so they don't spend time getting lots of honey.
Decent chance for a Tek variant to spawn near the red obelisk, albeit a low level, still useful nonetheless
Net gun the quetz Out of the Air and than make a Gate Trap around hin so he cant escape
If you have a tribemate or partner you could tell him to grab you and you can shoot the quetzal while you’re partner is driving( you have to have a pteranodon or higher flying tame )
