Chapter 1: A Foreign Land

Selena woke up on the sands of a foreign, uncharted beach. She coughed out sand and rose shakily to her feet. “What is this place?” she asked herself, then shivered. After realising that her clothes had washed away, Selena decided to make some more. “Aha!” Running over to a nearby bush, she bent over and started tearing out fiber. Selena tried to yank a short, yellow one, but heard an aggravated squawk. She startled, leaping back and thinking she must have pulled a poor bird’s feather. Selena heard nothing for a time. It must have left, she thought, but something convinced her to look again. Quickly stitching together her clothes and putting them on, Selena crept over to the bush and flung the leaves open.
