Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a gigantoraptor? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a gigantoraptor.
While taming it an alpha rex decided it would be funny to 'help'
If the baby refuses to do the taming minigame with you, try breaking some of the rocks/trees around the nest. I think whatever wildcard did to prevent trapping the parent extended to ANYTHING that could potentially stop the parent from reaching the nest. I tried multiple times to tame a baby and got no response, but as soon as I cleared the area for the parent, the taming game worked first try.
Fun fact! Unlike other babies, if you eliminate the parent, you still can't claim the baby. Learned the hard way 😅
I’ve tried looking for a maximum distance on how far the parent can detect fertilized eggs, 80m worked but I’ll keep testing
Step 1, bring an egg or two just in case ( i brought rex eggs)
Step 2, find a nest with parent and baby.
Step3, place the egg with some distance from the nest, and wait for the parent to see the egg and start to pick it.
Step 4, make ur way to the nest and hide in it(there is an interaction button that says hide in nest.
Step 5, wait for the baby to start the minigame for taming the baby.
Step 6, the parent should come back to the nest shortly after starting the minigame, dont freak out, it wont attack you while you do the minigames with the baby, it will protect you and the baby from any intruder, ur tribemate can even stand there with u beside the nest, but any sudden movement from your mate will alert the parent and attack, during a conflict where the parent runs away too far will make the baby pause the minigame, therefor u should put up another egg close to the nest to make the parent return, then the minigame with the baby will resume.
Step 6, once the minigame is 100% u got urself a Gigantoraptor :) and no u cant tame the parent (i play official pve)
That one tip where they say you don’t need insert eggs is not true! The eggs must be fertilized
Step one. Sneak into nest
Step two. Imprint on babys.
Step three. Run for your life with baby.
-The parent will peck at a fertilized egg for about 30 seconds, typically enough time to perform one action with the baby. Higher levels will need multiple actions.
-When the baby wants to do an action, it’ll walk towards you in the nest and jump. You’ll be shown a list of actions, one of which the baby will start doing, and you have about 3 seconds to pick the correct one to mimic.
Don't use your Gigatoraptor to tame a new one... do the mini game again so you get taming effectiveness bonus levels!! I wish the people that put the tip would have stated you get no taming efficiency... :-(
You have to have a fertile egg drop the egg just in right spot so it doesn’t see you forever the next stage in taming. Now you can hide in the nest wait for the baby to walk into the nest after it sees you you can copy its movements repeat until tamed (not the egg part unless the mama finishes its egg meal)
If you already tamed a Gigantoraptor, you can skip the minigame taming mechanic for further wild ones by simply killing the wild parent, roaring, then clicking E on the wild baby whilst on your Gigantoraptor. Congratulations, you tamed your new baby Gigantoraptor in record time!
FYI this is NOT coming to Ark: Survival Evolved it will be coming to Ark: Survival ASCENDED. The last thing coming to Evolved is the Rhinio btw
As of summer 2024, traps still work. However, from my testing, it seems you need to let the parent out and let it walk to its nest after every 3 or so interactions with the baby, and then retrap it.
Okay. Find a nest. Usually around rivers and grass/jungle areas.
The baby will always be around the nest. If it's not, there's a number of bugs that can be the cause.
For this to work; The baby and the nest and the mom all have to be together in the same close vicinity.
Okay, the correct way to distract the mother is to throw out a fertilized egg close by.
Aggro will get you a few times but keep trying till you get it right.
Once you see the animation of her eating the fertilized egg, go to the nest. Hide in it.
The baby will now come to you after a few moments if not bugged and will literally get into a stance in front of you.
It will preform 1 of 3 moves. D pad, Left, Down, Right
All little mimic/dance moves that increase the babys taming with each successful one you do in time, mimicking it.
After mom gets done eating she immediately comes straight back to the nest.
My experience allowed me to just quickly run from her in time while her back was turned in that split second moment from hiding.... but definitely keep a flying creature close by in case of things going south.
The larger the fertilized egg, the longer she takes to eat it. Eggs that worked for me was Rexs, Carchs, Gigas, Brontos, Yutis, All the eggs of those creatures worked for me and it took her at least a good solid +45-60 seconds to eat them each. For max levels.
Good Luck Out There! I Hope This Helps!
This creature is crazy fun!!! Has a flutter ability exactly like the Terror Bird but the gliding is WAY more maneuverable. Jumps like a Reaper almost compared to size. Main attack uses its Beak, and other attack will use both its huge legs to separately stomp. Aloooooot of other crazy good features to this Oviraptorosaur, specifically to do with babies.
Tame it and find out for yourself 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻
Just use wyvern eggs. Each egg gets about 3-4(rarely) interactions. Better than giga eggs
If you can time it right I get a yuty egg and wait for animation of him walking to egg to start nest then get two animations in with baby go and snatch egg and it gives you another chance with egg keep repeating and recycling with one egg til it decays health wise
Taming a Gigantoraptor with another Gigantoraptor DOES give bonus taming levels IF you manually leveled it up. The bonus taming levels gained are based on the x/88 levels you put in. So to get 75 bonus levels on a lvl150, you need to level it 88 times. Oh, and you need to own a Gigantoraptor that is higher lvl than the baby you want to tame for it to work. Same goes for other baby dinos.
I dont see this anywhere so here.
Find a wild Gigantoraptor, (lower level than your leveled up GR) kill the mother and use your GR to imprint on the baby, rinse and repeat with higher levels to work your way up the ranks.
I see most nests around redwood on the island.
Been taming these on official smalls, Archeleon eggs are the best for low budget, they last as long as giga eggs
