Rouke’s Story: Chapter 8- The Last One Missing

(Read the prologue and chapters 1-7 first)

Jaz’s head was spinning. All he remember was the Argy’s, and fighting with Rouke, but he wasn’t sure what happened after.

The room around him was dark, almost like a cave, but he could tell the walls were square.

Jaz growled, turning his head left and right, sharp scents coming from all directions, and he could just barely make out a unfamiliar chattering sound that he guessed came from a certain creature he had only heard once before, humans.

Suddenly, the roof of the room lifted off, so unexpectedly, Jaz yelped like a little pup.

An Argy’s head appeared over the lifting roof, and he realized it was carrying the roof away.

Seconds later, he heard the clunk of the roof being dropped, and the Argy returned to Jaz’s cage, perching on the top of the wall.

Jaz saw a human on its back, pointing and chattering to humans down below.

The human tapped the Argy’s side with his foot, and the Argy lifted off the wall, quickly swooping down to to grab him with outstretched talons.

Jaz’s legs were still feeling sluggish, but he tired to drag himself over into the corner to avoid the Argy.

The Argy swooped in from behind him, it’s sharp talons wrapping around his sides.

It lifted him into the air and carried him through the sky the short distance from the medical cages to the trap house.

It glided above the roofless trap house, flying just high enough so the other wolves couldn’t jump and reach it.

The human tapped the Argy’s side again and it dropped Jaz almost as suddenly as it had grabbed him.

Jaz yelped, crashing down onto a few other wolves below him, though it wasn’t a high enough distance to hurt him or the other wolves below him.

He shook his head, trying to get a hold of the situation when another wolf that he landed on the tail of turned around and snapped at his side.

A loud bark split through the crowd of wolves and the wolf that had snapped at him backed up.

“Leave him alone!” A familiar voice growled, and sure enough, the owner of the voice and accompanied by another familiar wolf stepped through the crowd, Rouke and Lok, accompanied by another smaller male wolf traveling more distantly behind.
