Rouke’s Story - Chapter 1: The Rumors

(Read the prologue first)

Rouke and his pack had just taken down a rhino with no trouble at all.

“Anyone injured?” Rouke asked, not expecting any of them to actually be hurt, but he had to double check.

“Nope!” Jaz said, tilting his head and letting his tongue flip out the side of his mouth in that strange pup-like way of his.

“Me neither,” Lok said, and they both waited expectantly for their alpha, Rouke to take the first bite of the prey.

Rouke stepped up and took his share of the prey and the waited for the others to finish eating to.

“We’ll leave the rest for the Argys,” Rouke sighed, watching the big birds circle overhead.

Rouke padded off and listened to the sounds of Jaz and Lok trotting behind him.

He looked back to see both of their heads bent down in a whispered conversation, and he turned back, waiting for them to fill him in on the conversation.

“Well, what is it?” Rouke said expectantly.

“Nothing of concern,” Lok said, “Jaz just heard rumors of some sort of, creatures taking wolf and locking them up in pens…”

“Your right it’s nothing of concern,” Rouke said, not doubting their pack’s strength for a second.

“Nothing we can’t handle!” Jaz grinned tilting his head in that odd way of his once more.

The three of them howled and then trotted back to their cave at the base of the mountain.
