Rouke’s Story - Chapter 2: Not Just a Rumor

(Read the Prologue and Chapter 1 first)

Rouke woke up and looked around the cave. Lok and Jaz were still sleeping, tired after their big prey they had caught earlier.

Suddenly Rouke heard a loud a burst of howls. He knew that howl anywhere. It was one of the wolves in there neighboring pack, a pack of four.

He ran to the entrance of the cave, Lok at his side in an instant, and Jaz wandering slowly in their direction.

“What’s happening?” Lok asked, alert.

“Nosa from the neighboring pack is in trouble,” Rouke said, turning to Lok.

Jaz suddenly darted to the cave entrance. “Are you sure it was Nosa?” He asked, suddenly alert too. Nosa was Jaz’s sister, and they had chose different packs when they were old enough to leave their birth pack.

Rouke growled at Jaz for doubting what he had heard, and Jaz backed away.

Nosa howled again, but it grew fainter every second. Lok suddenly pointed with his nose to something in the sky.

“That’s her, Alpha. I think an Argy has her, but there’s something on its back.” Lok said.

Jaz crawled to the back of the cave and whimpered, knowing there was no way to get his sister back now.

Rouke left Lok to go comfort Jaz, and stepped outside the cave to think.

Maybe the wolf trapper stories weren’t rumors after all…
