You can't really escape it but it is easy to fight just make sure there aren't more around

What I usually do:

1. Kill a dodo to get some hide.

2. Craft bola

3. Trap dilo with bola (make sure to do this next part quickly cause the bola will break in 20 or so seconds.)

4. Equip 2 clubs since one will break, and beat the shi!t out of that lil bastard.
