A Tribe of Shadows

Chapter I: Part II

I ran across the faded trails that were once used by mail couriers to move across the desolate plains of the Eastern Savanna. Then, as I neared my village, I began to smell burning flesh. I entered through the reeds, and what I saw scarred me to the core. Massive scorch marks lay on the ground, some with flames still blazing. The ruined wooden huts that made up my village were charred, yet some were made of redwood, so the flames didn’t do as much damage to them. Slowly I walked towards my hut, I saw, gut wrenchingly, what appeared to be the burnt carcass of a man; my father. I had moved out the previous year, as my parents had been rather mentally unstable. But it still tore my heart to think of them dead. “The person that did this will feel exactly the pain that he caused my parents when he’s burning in Hell.” I said, before walking away towards the center of the village. The Yurkin’s building was rather unharmed, as it was stone. But I could still smell burning meat inside. The wind seemed to be whistling a song. I could almost here the voices of many humans. I left the village, and decided to make camp far away. I didn’t want to have to return here. Not ever again. I heard a deinonychus’s call, and decided to follow it. It may help me find food, I had thought. Little did I know that following that Deinonychus was going to change my perspective on dinosaurs forever.

-Ranger (sorry I keep leaving you on cliffhangers).
