Tips & Strategies

What are tips for wyvern? Tips and strategies for wyvern in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
In Ragnarok the scar is right by the volcano but not exactly on the volcano so you basically would want to fly a PT to where the scar is then you would want to go in and avoid all wyverns while trying to find an egg you would want to upgrade your PT mostly on stam and a bit on speed. Once you find the wyvern egg make sure there are no wyverns near you then grab the egg hop back on your PT before the wyverns get too close to you because they realize you stole their egg. And then go for about 20 seconds then land and make sure the wyverns did not follow you and then go incubate the egg if you don't have any wyvern milk then as long as you're baby mature speed is up high enough then you can literally just wait for it to grow up without any wyvern milk once you hatch the egg. There you go now you got your wyvern! ( I play on old ark so if you're on New ark those might not be the exact instructions)
To hatch an egg I do 35 campfires in a U-ish shape
Who thinks we should be able to store wyvern milk in the fridge because it doesn’t make sense?
You need at least 15 standing torches to incubate an egg.
🐲 Basics of Wyvern Raising
Wyverns in Ark can’t be fed like normal dinos while growing — they require Wyvern Milk until they reach adulthood.
Key Timings Depend On:
• Maturation Time (Total time to become an adult)
• Baby Food Drain Rate
• Food Value of Wyvern Milk
• Server settings (e.g., maturation speed and food drain multipliers)
⸻
🕒 1. Base Maturation Time
In official rates on Ark: Survival Ascended:
• Wyvern total maturation time: ~3 days, 20 hours (~92 hours total)
• At 100% maturation, the phases break down to:
• Baby: 0% – 10% (first ~9.2 hours)
• Juvenile: 10% – 50%
• Adolescent: 50% – 100%
These times are faster on boosted servers (e.g., 2x maturation = ~46 hours total).
⸻
🍼 2. Wyvern Milk Feeding Details
• One Wyvern Milk restores 1200 food.
• Wyvern babies have around 350 food when born (varies by type/level).
• Food drains at around 0.1 food per second on official rates.
🧮 Feeding Interval Calculation
Formula:
Time Between Feedings = (Food Value of Milk) / (Food Drain per Second)
Example:
1200 food / 0.1 per second = 12,000 seconds ≈ 3.33 hours
✅ So, you should feed your baby Wyvern every 3–3.5 hours on official settings.
⸻
⚠️ Tips to Manage Feeding
• Milk spoils in 3 hours unless refrigerated or in a preserving bin.
• You can cryopod the Wyvern to pause food drain (great when offline).
• Starve-timing works: Let food drop to ~0 before feeding to avoid waste.
• Always have 1–2 spare milks for emergencies or server lag.
⸻
🔄 Adjusting for Custom Server Settings
If your server has a different maturation or food drain rate, plug those into the equation:
Feeding Interval = (Milk Food Value) / (Food Drain per Sec * Drain Multiplier)
You can use online calculators like Dododex or ARK Smart Breeding for tailored data.
🧠 Summary
Aspect Official Values
Total Maturation ~92 hours
Baby Phase Duration ~9 hours
Food Drain Rate 0.1 per second
Wyvern Milk Food 1200 per milk
Time Between Feedings ~3.3 hours
Feed every 3–4 hours during the baby stage, keep milk cold, and monitor food closely. Let me know if you’re on custom rates, Travis, and I can calculate exact feeding times.
I stayed up 5 days to tame this... What has my life come to... Yes someone put me out of my misery
Use net guns to take down queens the knock them out for easy wyvern milk
The most discreet way to snatch some if you have cryopods
Tame a Oviraptor
Craft a grappling hook / wing glider/ climbing picks
Put ur oviraptor in a crypod
Get some camo drip
Fly to the trench
Go find a good egg
Uncryo your oviraptor
Put it on follow
Watch it pick up the egg
Take the egg from it and crying it again
Discreetly leave the scene
Just to warn you on an official sever it will take 5hrs to hatch. 9hrs 15 min for baby to juvenile. 37 hrs from juvenile to adolescent. And 46 hours 17 min to get to adult
So two things:
First, I have a cobalt blue lvl 185 lightning baby that has amazing stats that I can’t wait to breed.
Second, while it was maturing, I conducted an experiment with the lightning wyverns lightning attack to see what the torpor could do.
I took my lvl 245 black lightning with 603% melee and basically just went to town on my fire wyvern of the same lvl with 25k health. It took maybe five hits before it did enough torpor to knock my fire dragon out(that’s 10k torpor…), and it only had 4k health left.
So yeah. There yall go. Hope it was interesting😂
This is the strat on single player…
1) First you tame any expendable flier of any level (for me it was a lvl 44 lymantria)
2) fly to the edge of the wyvern trench, far enough away as to avoid aggravating any belligerent wyvern. There you will place down a sleeping bag and a storage box for food, clothing, weapons, and a cryopod containing an escape dinosaur (for me I used my lvl 120 Argent.)
3) find egg, fly out of the trench and over to the opposite side of where you put your sleeping bag and storage box.
4) let the wyverns kill you and let your sacrificial flier become a martyr for humanity
5) respawn at sleeping bag near the wyvern trench and un-cryo your Argent.
6) once the wyverns that followed and killed you and your sacrifice have dispersed, retrieve your item cache that you dropped when you died and obtain your egg.
7) Fly back to your base and hatch/raise your wyvern, with either wyvern milk or the daedon strategy.
If you use daedon strategy, prepare a truckload of food for your daedon beforehand so that it can heal your baby wyvern.
If you use wyvern milk, either go back to the trench and find a lone female wyvern, grab its attention and shoot it with a net projectile and tranq the freak out of it until it is unconscious. Grab milk and leave. If you are lucky you may find the occasional lone wyvern that spawns outside the trench. Use same strategy here as you did at the trench. The best thing about finding a lone wyvern outside the trench is if you remember where it is, you can come back and repeat the same process.
Thanks to this strategy I now have a lvl 76 female poison wyvern named Petra. Now others can see a relatively easy way to obtain a wyvern egg
Can you get lightning, ice etc on console? 😅
I just hatched a fire wyvern, and it’s super cool looking… completely white with wings that start out light orange and deepen into red toward the tips! Kinda looks like an alpha without the glow😆
Make sure to knock out female wyvern before hatching the egg because they drink wyvern milk until 10% mature and they they may starve without it. And to hatch the egg you need 15 campfires and more at night. Hope This Helps anyone who hasn't got one!
If you live near an obelisk you can store milk, prime meat (or really anything) indefinite inside on a single player world by taking the iteam out in a different world than you originally got it than putting it back into the obelisk and than accessing that obelisk in the original world.
IF YOU HAVE BOBS TALES, the barrel is extremely useful and can preserve milk in a sealed barrel for like 18 hrs also with the help of some preserving salts
There's a way to raise baby wyvern without milk: must tam a snow owl or daedon and keep healing the baby until its fully grown. Your wyvern won't die trust me bro 😀. I would recommend tam a daedon for auto healing than snow owl, guess nobody want to take care a baby only.
Having a couple expendable vultures on aggo seems to help with wyverns attacking your base. The wyvern chases them up high enough that they eventually despawn. Seems the vulture always attacking from above keeps them flying higher and higher. This tactic has saved my base twice from rogue wyverns.
