For those beginning to read this story, this is Prologue to Ultimus by PrimalApex. A story that goes in reverse aquatic and a couple other creatures that should belong in aquatic (Spino and Shasta). For warning, as I’m currently writing this, it is sad and painful to read. Warning is advised to those who don’t like that sort of thing. I hope you enjoy!!!
Ultimus Prologue
The sun beat down on the earth’s surface. Bare and desolate, the earth dead from an aftermath a millennia before. Nothing left but empty shells of what existed. The earth is in an Extinction event, and may never return from it.
In the far distance comes a noise of metal hitting earth and dropping something the noise continues for some time. The sound was metal clashing earth and tearing earth from earth only to return it to earth. The noise was coming from a man. His eyes were covered with goggles and face covered by bandannas to keep the dust and corrupted element out of his eyes and mouth. He stabbed a pile of dirt with a shovel and placed the dirt in a hole. After some time the hole slowly disappeared. When he was finished, what was a hole became a mound. The man put down his shovel and grabbed a small wooden cross and a hammer. He put the cross down in front of the mound and pounded into the ground with his hammer.
The man took his goggles off and then took off the bandannas showing a young face with hazel green eyes. His eyes red rimmed. He rolled up his sleeves and showed his forearms with no implant. He kneeled down by the cross and said down to the grave “さようなら、旧友よ” as he laid down on the ground and began to weep.
After some time, the man got up. Put his bandannas and goggles on, grabbed his hammer and shovel. and walked away from the grave. He turned and looked back at the grave.
“I will never forget you. I promise.” The man said with the sound of sobbing in his voice.
The man then continued walking away towards the mountains. He climbed up the mountains and passed a strange row of what looked like radio towers. He walked up a path along a cliff face where he walked for some time until he reached a place where the path spit to the right and left. He took the left path which seemed to end at a dead end where a land slide had occurred. He walked up to the land slide and found a crevice that lead into the mountain. The man squeezed his way through and entered on the other side…
What was written on the grave was ‘Rest in Peace, Reuben. For your death was not in vein.’. As for the man, it is inevitable Extinction for him. For he is The Last One. The Last Man on Earth. And Monsters of the Shadows wish to bring his end soon.
I am a huge dinosaur and prehistoric animal nerd. So I heard about this creature and I looked it up. I found numerous videos about “Tusoteuthis taming!” “Taming Tusoteuthis in ark!”
I was like, what is this amazing game? I downloaded it on my iPad and started playing. (December 2019.)
I started playing ark just because of the Tuso, and for over a year, I still hadn’t seen one. Then, in FEBRUARY 2021, I finally saw a Tuso when I was swimming on my dolphin on the island (I started playing pc as well as mobile btw.) I saw an ALPHA SQUID and I totally freaked out.
Now, just the other day, I tamed my first Tuso with pearls on Genesis. It is a beautiful blue color and is OP, so I named it Havoc!

Ultimus: Current Setting
Year: 2364
Location: Camacho International Forest (The last wildlife park on Earth), 11586 kilometers away from Arat Prime and 8344 kilometers away from Sanctuary
Ultimus Chapter One
Hunter Lang and family lived in Camacho International Forest with his wife and son. His wife Kim was the lead Biologist and was stationed here to take samples and study how the wildlife was effected after the war. He was a major computer programmer and hacker that was the main programmer on a major program that allowed him to work at home temporarily.
He sat at his desk in his home home office. He was looking at hundreds of lines of code on his screen. All of it giving him a headache at the moment. He looked to the side of his desk where he had a family photo. His son Andrew up in front. Andrew was schooling at home by computer due to being stationed. He had turned eleven several months ago and was finishing work on his first degree. He loves his son, but it was getting hard for him to do his work and be a father. Especially with what the Terran Federation pushing him harder and harder. As a high ranking programmer and lead on the project for them his time away from the project was important time wasted for the Federation. But for him, it was necessary time spent with his family. They were trying desperately to get him to come to the main site but he continued to refuse because he was needed with his family just as much. Looking at all this code made it all frustrating to him.
His computer made a chime sound and He looked up to see he got an email. It was addressed to Kim from the Terran Federation. He was tempted to read it, but he was going to let Kim read it first. The Terran Federation assigned her to this station and they might be requesting a quarterly report. She always has one pop up around this time of year and she had been getting it ready for their request.
Hunter got up from his computer to go look outside in the backyard. He saw Andrew playing out their with his new Rottweiler pup. Andrew hadn’t named him yet, he said that he was looking for the perfect name. He only had owned him for a week and he will have ten years of memories to build with him.
Hunter went to his bedroom and looked in his wife’s mirror in her vanity. Hunter was a tall man, medium build, dirty blonde with blues eyes and glasses in his his late thirties. He looked to his left where two Terran Federation flags were folded neatly on the drawers. It had been over fourteen years since he and Kim met as soldiers fighting against the URE. Now he works with them, go figure. He went into the bathroom and opened up a medicine cabinet and grabbed some aspirin. He took one and went back into the bedroom and laid on the bed and closed his eyes.
I have a story for you. I once tamed a tuso by feedin it balm and pearls. We had great adventures. Everyday I would collect oil from it and make gas. One day we were swimmin around together getting angler jell. And the game glitches just as we were attacked Ng a mosa and an army of mantas. I reload the game an look for my boi tusa( his name is legs) I can't find him any where. I look in the takes place and request him just before it finished it said. Your legs has killed a mosa. Your legs has been killed by a manta.RIP legs u were an inky boi. Upydoot to pay respects.#loveulegs
So idk where to put this so I put it in encountering. Sit down ye landlubbers and hear my tale. I was hunting basilos on my kraken named blue. He could kill anything he saw. I couldn’t find even one basilo I went into a cave thinking one might be in there then beasts of horror came and trapped me and my great kraken of death. The nightmarish sharks, dunkleos, jellyfish, and more started to bite, sting, and do more horrid things. Now if ye look down into a cave ye better remember my tale. or ye won’t tell a tale cause dead men tell no tales.
Tales of Pandora
Origins of Salizar: Chapter 10 ~ Flown the coop ~
Primalis trekked through the forest, he was investigating rumors about a cave near a small lake. “Blast it all! If these plants don’t stop touching me I’ll burn this whole dammed forest!” He said angrily to his purlovia, who answered with a grunt. Primalis was not an adventurer or a spelunker, he would much rather have spent his time in the lab, or at the very least be escorted by his taskforce. Unfortunately for him the King’s word is law, he would have to find an artifact, or die trying. He eventually stumbled across the lake, (or rather his mount did) and a grin came across his face, “Huzza! Soon I will be rid of this infernal place.” He dismounted and ordered his purlovia to search, then he sat down on a fallen log as if he was exhausted, even though he hadn’t walked a step this whole expedition. His backpack was heavy, it contained a few days worth of rations, which he despised; a bedroll, which he dreaded having to use; and some other survival essentials. He also had a quiver and a crossbow. “Where did that beast run off to!” Primalis said. The “beast” came back a few seconds later, motioning for him to follow it. He of course mounted it instead. They reached the cave mouth and Primalis’s mood lightened a bit. “Well, GO.” He said harshly to the purlovia. It walked through the empty cave quickly, “odd that there’s no beasts in here, Hmm lucky me.” He said. But he was in fact, not lucky because when they got to the end of the cave there was no artifact. “WHERE IS IT!” Primalis shouted. The purlovia growled wile sniffing the ground. “What is it creature.” Primalis asked rhetorically. The purlovia looked up at him, “It’s a footprint dum-” “ahh tracks! Of.. a raptor? They look wrong somehow..” Primalis interrupted, not able to understand the purlovia. “Follow.” Primalis ordered. “FoLlOw” the purlovia mocked. Primalis took the grunt as a “yes master!” Even though it wasn’t..
“I got it boss!” Ras said with a cackle. “Good work, only two more artifacts and the gigantopithicus trophy, then we can slay the dragon and leave this ark.” Ryker said. “I hope we see that meso again, I’ve got unfinished business with him..” Killion said. “As do we all Killion, but he is not the objective, remember the plan.” Ryker said. “Of course boss.” Killion replied. “All done Ras!” Wretch said. he now had robotic arms, and they had hands, much more useful. “Let’s goooo!” Ras said excitedly. Wretch showed him the arm, which was a good replacement, a raptor like arm and claws. “Alll right! … But where are the knives..?” Ras asked. “Ras I assure you these claws are just as sharp-” “shhhhhh” Ras said with a claw over Wretch’s mandibles. “I need the knives.”
Salizar was strolling through the woods, arms crossed behind his back. he unlike Primalis enjoyed the forest. He was locked up for his entire childhood, he couldn’t stand to be cooped up in one place for too long. As he was walking he saw tracks in the mud, Ras’s, he decided it was safe to go no further in that direction, so he turned right from the tracks. He heard a twig break as he walked and he looked around suspiciously, he heard more rustling and decided to climb a tree for a better view, he say a human woman, blond, wearing torn up clothes and running for the hills (so to speak) he recognized her as one of the only kind humans he’d ever met. Dr. Flight. “Wait!” He shouted in English. She looked up and saw him, and then ran faster. “Oh right, the mask..” he said in animal. “Wait! It’s mi! Salizzer!” He said in broken English. She turned around and looked at him, she recognized him. “Salizar?” She said. “Yes.” He said. He climbed down and she walked towards him. “You can speak.. I knew you were smart.” She said. “Why you run?” He asked. “I just escaped, King Drake wanted to use me as a soaker hearder, it’s basically suicide.” She said. Salizar nodded. “W-where did you get the mask..” she asked a bit scared to hear the answer. “I, found.” He lied, he took off the mask to show his burned face. “Poor thing, those people are insane!” She said. He nodded again. “Come.” Salizar said. “Ok where to—thud—” Salizar didn’t know why she stopped talking, until he saw the arrow, it was a direct hit, straight through the heart. She dropped, dead. Salizar looked around, and saw Primalis, atop his purlovia and quite please with himself as he leaded a second shot. Salizar’s face filled with rage, he screamed in anger. The last good human was dead, in his mind all others were evil, he would never speak their infernal language again. He ran in fury. not away, but towards Primalis.

Bum. Bum. Bum. Bum. Bum.
Bum. Bum. Bum.
Ben let out a quick gasp, as he felt his eyes awaken to absolute darkness. Something coarse and rough covered his upper torso, and he looked down to see a blood-stained white dress shirt on his body, and baggy blue jeans on his legs. Ben reached for his throat and realized that the bleeding had stopped. Partially, at least.
“Where am I?” Ben thought to himself. He tried his best to speak, but no words came out.
Crackle!
A lone star flickered into Ben’s view, a four-pointed, golden, blazing star. As the star shined brighter, thousands of stars began to flicker into view as well. Each one shone brightly on Ben, as if they were watching him.
Ben looked around. Surrounded by a void of stars beyond reach, he reached his hand out to grab the four-pointed one that was just out of reach. As his hand grew closer, the star grew brighter, and he felt memories slowly kick in his head.
As Ben’s fingers grasped the burning flame, the Star disappeared. Vanishing within the night sky, Ben looked around, confusion set in. The stars all crackled at him, and for a split second, Ben could hear beeping in the back of his head.

“Made the wrong decision this time, old friend?” a familiar voice said.
Ben turned around, but there was no one. Only the echoes of a voice that felt so familiar to him.
“Ironic isn’t it. The constellations don’t care anymore. Things really do change, huh?”
The crackling of a glitching noise echoed in the distance.
“Who are you?!” Ben called out in the distance. Still, there was no noise.
“Come on, Ben. We’ve been through it all. How can you not remember me?”
A swirling portal manifested in front of Ben, and a shadowy figure came out of the portal. He had pale skin, a muscular body, and a white dress shirt and baggy blue jeans just like Ben. His hair was much longer, but he looked almost exactly like him. His most notable feature were the voids that culminated in front of his eyes. They were like black holes. He almost looked like Ben.
Ben’s eyes grew weary at the sight of him. A long lost memory floated back into Ben’s mind.
“You…”
“It has been so long since we last met. You really have gotten yourself into a conundrum, old friend,” the mysterious man noted. He smiled softly at him. He seemed to be carrying something bloody in his hand. Ben’s eyes darted to it and he saw a heart that still beat.
Bum. Bum. Bum. Bum. Bum. Bum.
Bum.
“What the-”
Ben quickly moved his right hand over his heart, but there was no pulse. Ben turned just as pale as his clone. He smiled in response.
“Oh don’t worry, you’ll have this back in no time. You won’t die… As long as you answer my questions. We need catching up to do,” he said. He raised his other hand in the air, and a key appeared in it. He twirled the key around, and then clutched it as hard as he could. Chains wrapped around the heart, causing it to stop beating. Ben let out a gasp. He felt his limbs getting weak.
Loud voices boomed. Ben was unsure whether they were coming from the stars, or somewhere beyond that, but they seemed upset.
“You know how much she loves this guy!” a distinct voice said.
“I’m sorry, I’m so so sorry…” another voice boomed back. The mysterious man chuckled in response.
“You’ll thank me later for that. Now. Let’s get down to business, Ben. What near death situation have you gotten yourself into to have ended up here? Lost within the inner depths of thy soul?
“Nothing you should be worried about… Key Master,” Ben replied with a sneer. The Key Master gave an annoyed look at Ben.
“Don’t give me that crass… Qb lbh jnag zr gb znxr lbh erzrzore, Ora?” the Key Master said. Ben glared.
“Qba'g rira guvax nobhg vg.”
The Key Master gave a devilish grin to Ben. He glanced over at the constellations.
“Lbh'er yhpxl V pubbfr gb uvqr lbhe frpergf sebz gur pbafgryyngvbaf. Gurl pna'g haqrefgnaq hf yvxr guvf.”
The Key Master seemed to stare at the constellations for a bit. He muttered something under his breath.
“Don’t even think about translating,” he muttered.
Ben cut him off.
“I’m here because of an encounter. Three scouts wanted to take me to their leader. She wants me, for some reason. I ended up… dying.”
“And do you know what that reason is?”
“No.”
“That’s funny,” the Key Master said. He began to toss the heart up and down like a ball, “Now. Answer me, Ben. Why’d. You. Choose. To. Forget?”
“There’s no reason. If I let myself remember, I would just go back all the time. I needed to learn to move on on my own without that world at my disposal,” Ben answered as honestly as he could.
“Lies,” the Key Master sneered, “I know why. You’re scared… Scared you’ll lose control. Keep going back, and you’ll never come back. You’ll just live your life there, with that girl-”
“Shut. Up.”
“Ahh, there we go! I guess you do remember,” he giggled, “You look really mad. I think deep down you never really forgot ME.”
The Key Master slunk into a lying position. He tossed the heart up and down in the air some more. Ben could feel himself growing dizzier.
“You know, it’s kind of funny to me. You used to be so heartless! But now here you are, groveling for what makes you most precious. You used to be even worse than that man with the soulless eyes,” the Key Master said, “But you do move on fast. It only felt like yesterday that…”
Ben shot another warning at him. The Key Master shrugged.
“Look. I know what you want. You want to return home. Return to the West. Return to your love. You want to keep that promise… But, I won’t let you forget your roots. Why you’re still alive. You can’t just leave that in the past. I’ll make you remember,” the Key Master snapped. The voids in his eyes began to grow larger.
Ben clenched his fists, and in an instant, the stars in the void around them faded away. He sprung forward and knocked the Key Master away. The Key Master let out a groan as he was launched back. The heart ended up in the air, and Ben leaped up and grabbed it with his fist. As his fingers wrapped around it, the chains unraveled, and Ben felt blood rush up to his head again.
“Sorry. But I think it’s time to cut this meeting short,” Ben replied. The Key Master let out a snarl and dashed at Ben, but Ben forced himself to open his eyes in the real world. As he did, he felt his memory of what occurred the past few minutes slip away.
“I’m not going to remember. This is MY soul, not yours,” Ben said, “And I think moving on would be best for all of us.”
The void began to tear away, and the Key Master clenched his fists. A blue portal manifested behind him.
“It’ll be in vain, anyway. The constellations are against you this time. Things are different this time. Soon, you’ll realize you need me to move on again. Soon, you’ll realize… Soon…”
The Key Master’s voice flickered away again, and the void was gone. All there was now? A black void, with a white bright light ahead.
Ben looked at the light for a moment. It was the smell of al pastor tacos, the sweet voice of her whispered in his ear, beckoning for him to join her. A comforting warmth enveloped Ben’s mind and body as he stared at the light… and contemplated entering.
Things would be right beyond the light. If Ben just… gave up, he wouldn’t have to worry anymore. He wouldn’t have to feel anymore.
But he had a promise to keep.
“So despite that, I refuse to give up. I NEED TO TRY AGAIN!”
Ben turned away from the light, closed his eyes, and ran as hard as he could. A few more moments of running, and he could hear his heart pounding in his ear, and the soft breathing from the real world. The white light enveloped him like a blanket…
Ben blinked a few more times, a strange disorienting noise playing in his ear. The light began to fade, and he could feel himself lying down on a soft mattress made of thatch. The slit on his throat was gone, and he noticed that he was in a thatch hut.
“What just happened? Hunted by those women the first second, here the next…”
Ben stared at his hands. The implant was still there in his left wrist. His hands seemed to be trembling. The sleeves of his graduation robe were pulled down… And they were white? Ben stared at his whole body. He was wearing a fresh set, and a white one at that.
Ben could hear a door creak open, and he jolted his head to see a man walk carrying armfuls of cherries. He wore a white sleeveless jacket, and had a red long sleeve underneath. His blue shorts were covered in dirt. He had tired eyes, but as he spotted Ben, his face lit up.
“Ben! You’re okay!”
The man looked out the door and seemed to be calling out to someone.
“John, Carlos, Ben’s awake, he’s alive! He’s ALIVE!”
Ben blinked his eyes a bit more.
“John? Carlos? Those are my old friends, why are they here… Am I in the afterlife?” Ben thought.
The man rushed forward and wrapped his arms around Ben.
“You’re okay, you’re okay!” he giddily said, and with a hint of relief.
As Ben’s senses recovered, his eyes widened and his heart leaped with joy as he realized who it was. The cold metal of an implant brushed his neck, and Ben instantly got back up and hugged him back.
“Paul!”
Two more men rushed into the room. One wore a straw hat and had hiker’s clothes on, the other wore an apron over a black dress shirt and tan khakis. John and Carlos.
Carlos gasped, and John squealed in excitement.
“BEN!” they both said in unison. They rushed in for a group hug, and Ben let out groans as he felt his ribs under the pressure of the bear hugs.
“Ahh you crazy slacker, I can’t believe it took this long to finally find you!” John said. He took his fist and gave Ben a huge noogie, and Ben let out a laugh as Carlos gave Ben a look of disapproval.
“Why didn’t you tell us you were going to be gone for so long?” Carlos asked. His face washed with disappointment, “I- WE would have been okay if you just told us…”
“I know, I know, I’m sorry,” Ben responded sincerely. He pulled away from his friends and sniffled a little. He looked at all three of his friends for a moment, each one with a bright smile on their face. They looked so happy, yet so… tired.
“Wait, where’s Ian?”
John and Carlos looked at each other uncomfortably, and Paul looked at the ground shamefully, rubbing his neck.
“Ian was captured,” John regretfully told Ben.
“What? BY WHO?” Ben asked with clenched fists. He could feel his face twitch.
“The Crimson Crusader’s scouts.”
Ben remembered the three women who had tried to capture him to bring him to the ‘boss’, the ones with the red clothes. Were THEY also under the Crimson Crusader? Were they also responsible for Chris’ disappearance?
“I think I know who you’re talking about. I had a run-in with them too, and one of my other friends has also disappeared because of them,” Ben explained. He punched his palm so hard he felt it in his bones. Vines shot out from his sleeves, “So, let’s rescue them!”
