I met Maya when I was out on my pteranodon hunting for meat to fill my trough with. Someone had left this beautiful ocean colored girl in the middle of a spino and raptor infested swamp to starve, and by the time i happened upon her, she was near death. So I hopped off my ptera, nursed her back to health and decided to take her home with me. It would be a challenge with all of the hostiles nearby, and she was likely to get stuck on the giant slabs of rock jutting out of the sandy cliffs, but I had not been able to tame a triceratops thus far and figured the risk would be worth it.

But fate would not make this task easy for me. On the way back to my base, I was knocked off my bird by a kaprosuchus and dragged off into the murky depths of the bog. Helpless, I flailed in the water as my pteranodon watched from the mangroves, set to passive and completely unaware that anything was amiss.

Resigning myself to my fate, I was already charting out my respawn route when I heard an almighty roar behind me, and I stopped stabbing at the kapro’s mouth to see none other than Maya, charging towards us with all her might. With one violent swish of her head, she’d knocked the nettlesome reptile clean into the trees. I was able to use the distraction to climb back on my pteranodon and fly away to safety, with her lumbering behind once she’d made quick work of the unfortunate kapro that had sunk its teeth into my sleeve. That day, she saved me, my bird, and my loot from certain death. She would go on to defend us from several raptors and a therizinosaurus on the way home with hardly a scratch to show for it.

Now, Maya lives in her own little palace I’ve built for her next door to my own dwelling, armored with only the finest ascendant saddle and fed all the mejoberries her heart desires. She’s my favorite girl, and she’ll be with me until the end of my time here on the Island.

And finally, the lessons to be learned here: always set your tames to neutral, and don’t fly too low in the swamp!
