Tips & Strategies

What are tips for stegosaurus? Tips and strategies for stegosaurus in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
With the TLC, the stego is one of the most useful creatures in the game. Its high health and good damage makes it an extremely useful utility mount, only rivaled in diversity by a few other well-known creatures, like the argy and the moschops.
The stegosaurus is very easy to tame. You only need a bow, lots of tranq arrows, and a cliff. Shoot the stego from the cliff, and chase it one it is running away. Since this is a utility post, there won’t be much information on this area.
Once tamed, the stegosaurus has three back plate modes:
The hardened plate (orange): defends the stego making it tanky. It can harvest wood
Heavy plate (blue): instead of protection, it slows enemies using its primary attack. Harvests thatch
Sharp plate (yellow): gives the stego armor penetration. Harvests tons of berries
All modes prevent riders from being knocked off (microraptor proof!!)
The stego has a decent attack range and AoE. It also has a secondary (impale) attack which can hold down the enemy while draining its health. Use this against ASE forest titan on extinction.
Also, the stego is very tanky and carries a lot. The only downside being its extremely low speed. If you need anything that doesn’t have to be quick, the stego is extremely useful.

Hardened will reduce incoming damage and prevent the player from getting dismounted. It does not gather berries, but it gathers impressive amounts of wood.
Heavy inflicts slow on targets and prevents the rider from getting dismounted. It gathers moderate berries and wood, along with large amounts of thatch.
Sharpened does armor penetration and prevents the rider from getting dismounted. It gathers large amounts of berries, decent thatch, and little wood.
I know this might sound fake but I tamed one when I was level 18 I used a sling shot I was so close to dying
I’d use tranq arrows to knock out I used the purple berries and it took a while but it’s worth it and it gives a lot of xp
How top soak Like a Boss with this:
- Max Level (tek Variant Base Level 180 + leveling)
- imprint
- Male shadowmane buff
- yuty roar
- daeodon heal
-snow owl heal + freeze
- Max Armor saddle
- Mate Boots
- Rider wearing Gas Mask against poison
- anti net gun Glitch
- sweet vegetable cakes
Nothing will be better to soak ;)
These big guys are not to be underestimated. They have a slow speed, but don't let this fool you. Once tamed, they can gather insane amounts of wood, berries, and thatch. I suggest taming these as soon as possible. Use upgrade points on health, melee dmg, movement speed, and stamina. Hope this helped.

If you are a low-mid level and you are having trouble with a swamp zone, this dino is a MUST HAVE. Its easy to tame, his saddle is one of cheapest of the game and the kaprosuchus cant take you out of him. If you use his hardened plates, he recieves all damage halved. This f1cker is extremely useful.
don't hit a stegosaurus unless you are away from your house
Stegos have the new tlc which means in the wild they will have about a 50% damage resistance which will make it harder to knock out. With the info on knocking it out (how much it takes) multiply it by 2 to make it accurate to how much you need to knock it out! Hope this helped!
Bring more narcotics. Chart is wrong. Had to use 30 narcotics on a lvl 50 stego.
If you use crops use carrot. Started taming 2x lvl 10. 1st i used longgrass then the 2nd i used carrot. The longgrass was 15% and carrot was 35% even when started after. Hope this helps
I think its best use is harvesting berries. It is basically the midgame trike, although i like the trike more with combat. The stego has a slow attack, but is has a large hitrange, and so it harvests lots of berries at once. It also has a decent carrying capacity. I suggest to upgrade weight and melee.
Very useful in PvP to soak turrets because if it’s abilty to protect the rider and high HP. Back into turrets as it’s tail takes reduced damage, beware of tek turrets as the splash dmg can still get you. Also it’s helpful to bring a few sweet veggie cakes so the stegosaurus can regain some health. (Up if you found this helpful)
You know, I was originally intimidated by this creature, but it was pretty easy to tame. I just flew my pteranodon, Bluey, up to a high rock and shot tranq arrows at her until she fell asleep. Then I gave her some mejo berries and guarded her through the night.
Just keep shooting even after you've been knocked across map just keep shooting
