Tips & Strategies

These are as rare as Gigas (supposedly), so be sure to plan accordingly. Though they can be hard to spot in the wild sometimes, they seem to spawn in almost immediately after another one dies. There are almost always two at any given time on our server and there are no modificatioms to creature spawns. While it may seem worthwhile to "tame" a low-level female given how long it took to find it, it may be better waiting for a higher level one and using that time to stock up on all the different comfort food options. When you're ready to find one for taming, it may be beneficial to spend time killing males and lower-level females until an ideal one shows up.
Kill a male Rhynio to get a Pheromone to use on your sacrificial tame. Pheromones last for 8 hours in your inventory or 30 days in a fridge and do not stack.
Tame either a high-level Paracer, Bronto, or Carchar and name it "Fodder" and upgrade the crap out of its health. SAVE ONE UPGRADE POINT!
• Parcer prefers Superior kibble but only has 600 drag weight (89% host size quality)
• Bronto prefers Exceptional kibble and is slower to move, but has over 650 drag weight (100% host size quality) - I recommend leveling up its health to at least 20,000 and dumping all but one point into movement speed. You can still level it up once it's impregnated, and leveling up its health afterwards can recalibrate the health drain on your baby's timer if you're worried it won't make it.
• Carchar would be easiest to transport safely and has 100% host size quality, but what a waste, y'know?
1. Bring net gun and kill a male to get its pheromone - Net gun is not necessary. Rhynios are surprisingly easy to kill.
2. Find female Rhynio and feed Fodder the pheromone. Pheromone effect only lasts for 5 minutes, so be aware of that. It might be beneficial to bring two just in case.
3. Bring pump shotgun, assault rifle, and magnifying glass - do bulk damage with shotgun and peck away at its health with the assault rifle. Check its health with the magnifying glass as needed. Bring LOW LEVEL assault rifle so you don't accidentally kill the female. If you're using a Bronto, you cannot use weapons while riding on it, so a magnifying glass becomes more or less impossible to use here. Rhyniognatha's health needs to be below 10% in order to impregnate.
4. Once impregnated, safely get Fodder back to base without cryopodding it. Cryopodding your creature will lose the baby. YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MOUNT/RIDE THE IMPREGNATED DINO and will instead need to whistle for it to follow you (this was my personal experience so I would be remissed it if didn't include it, but I'm happy to be proven wrong). Being that these tend to be in or near the swamps and redwoods, you may want to bring support dinos for safety. I'm not sure how damage inflicted on Fodder after the pregnancy affects the health drain, but once you get it back to your base, I would spend that last level up point on its health. But only when you're sure it's safe.
5. Fodder will ask to be fed specific specific things for its cravings, including Giga/Carchar/Quetzal/Golden Hesperornis Eggs, black pearls, ammonite bile, absorbant substrate and Element. Feed these to Fodder to boost the babies' taming effectiveness. It will only have five cravings. Gestation can last up to 8 hours on official servers. Fodder will constantly need to be fed as it will consume one food PER SECOND while gestating. To feed it the food that it's craving, equip the food into your last hotbar slot and hold Triangle (PS) / E (PC) / Y (Xbox) on the creature. There should be a special option on the menu wheel on the top-right side to feed it its comfort food. DO NOT FORCE FEED IT THE COMFORT FOOD OR YOU WILL JUST BE WASTING IT.
6. Once born, Fodder will die. Fodder's health will tick down the enitre time and will reach 0 once the baby is due to be born. There is apparently a glitch that can cause Fodder to die from starvation seconds before the baby arrives, so force-feed it for a solid two minutes before the timer is up. The baby can be claimed by ANYONE, and will need to be fed like normal. They will not be hostile like a baby Reaper. You can pick up a baby with a Maewing (but we don't have that option right now on ASA).
More Rhyniognatha Taming & KO Tips
Not every creature can “eat” the pheromone that the males drop.. like this tip so Dododex can see and add which creatures can eat it and which ones can’t.
I know some that cannot:
Megatherium
Stego
Tek Creatures
Anky
Doeds
Sarco
Baryonyx
Carno
Managarmr
Some that can eat:
Wyverns
Rex
Quetzal
Maewing
Trike
With more testing we could have it set up fully and implemented into DodoDex
Before you tame you need to know that they kill your tame after its been impregnated
TAMING
- Get a TRIKE that you DON’T love
- Bring it to the Swamp
- Kill a MALE Rhyniognatha
- Bring a FEMALE semi-close to your Trike
- GET THE FEMALE BELOW OR EQUAL TO 100 HP
- FEED the Trike the PHEROMONE you got from the MALE
- IT WILL IMPREGNATE THE TRIKE
- YOUR TRIKE WILL REQUEST 5 DIFFERENT FOODS
(YOU DONT HAVE TO FEED IT THE FOODS BUT IT WILL HEAVILY IMPACT THE LEVELS AND STATS)
- Once the timer hits 0:00 Your Trike will go UNCONSCIOUS AND DIE
AND THERES YOUR BABY RHY 🥳 (R.I.P Rex lvl 72)
Traumatic experience tried to outrun it on pt
the quality of the baby rhynio depends on few things, the wild rhynio level (150 for the best result), the host drag weight must be above 900 (bronto, carcha, gigan on the island), the host's level and stats (stats is important because the host is also a parent so its like normal breeding), and the cravings fulfillment. also imprint the baby for the best stats, ive tried this multiple times with my bred brontos and i always get 240+ baby rhynio
All of the currently known cravings for host creatures include
Giga eggs
Carchars eggs
Quetzal eggs
Golden hesperornis eggs
All kibbles
Shadow steak saute
Fria curry
Enduro stew
Focal chilli
Lazarus chowder
Veggie cakes
Black pearls
Achatina paste
Gasoline
Element
Rhino horns
Ammonite bile
Bee honey
Battle tartar
DO NOT CRYO AFTER IMPREGNATION, When you do it the dino will not be pregnant,
Just a quick tip, Now only males will drop pheromones,
DONT KILL THE FEMALES!!!
Taming these things are confusing, but I believe I have figured out how they work.
Step 1 is to kill a wild rhynio (can be any gendrr) to get the pheromones, next it is best to make a trap, the best design i know of is basically a stone dino gate griffin trap, but with behemoth gates. Next you want to find a high level wild female rhynio. Think of the level of the rhynio as the taming effectiveness you will recieve 150 being max. Next you need to lower the rhynio to below 10% hp, you can net them to make this easier. Once it is below 10% hp you need a mount with a high drag weight in order to inherit the best stats, carch/giga have best chances. Feed the creature the phermone and mount it. The rhynio should impregnate it within a few seconds. DO NOT CRYOPOD THE DINO IT IMPREGNATED! YOU WILL LOOSE THE BABY! once your tame is impregregnated it will go through a gestation period and ask for cravings. It is important you furfill as many as possible as they have a major effect on the level the offspring will be and the stats inherited. Once the timer is complete your dino will fall unconscious and die, however you will now have a new perfect tame rhynio!
These bugs make taming other dinos a LOT easier, and grinding more bearable. Now you don't NEED a high level one.i got a lvl 35 weeks ago, now lvl 95, doing wonders for metal gathering because of their high weight, though if you're far from a metal source, i'd recommend argys, since rhynios, when carrying dinos move horrendously slow.
𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚍𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚐𝚘 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚝𝚊𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚘𝚗𝚎?
Well, it's simple (not really, but still pretty simple for their uitility that they give you) first, find a male (level of the male doesnt really matter, but females do) after killing one check your dinos inventory, or the rhyniognathas dead body inventory. If you cant open the rhyniognathas dead body, then the pheromone should be in your dino's inventory.
𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩.
Select a tamed dinosaur, preferably a brontosaurus, or carcharodontosaurus, or gigas. Though rexes, paracers and other animals could work, but not all of them. 𝙎𝙀𝘼𝙍𝘾𝙃 𝘼𝙍𝙆 𝘿𝙄𝙉𝙊 𝘿𝙍𝘼𝙂 𝙒𝙀𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏𝙎 Drag weight matters very much here, because it ensures full stat transfer from the host dino to the rhyniognatha, 900+ drag weight is the max limit for stat transfer, making carchas, gigas and brontos the best option, if you want a rhyniognatha specifically for resource gathering, sacrifice a bronto, if you want damage, sacrifice a giga/carcha. Brontos have high weight, carcha/giga has high damage, if you want one SPECIFICALLY to just be a speedy fighter jet that doesn't fight, sacrifice a bronto with high speed, if you even level it up on brontos.
Second, find a female, high levels are great, but if you're desperate, low levels are great too. If you've located one DO NOT FIGHT IT YET! If you have a cryopod, use it to store the sacrifice and uncryo it near the rhyniognatha, if you don't have one then you'll have to go primitive and ride the sacrifice, or make it follow you near the rhyniognatha, feed your sacrifice the pheromone you got from the male, and quickly get aggro from the rhyniognatha. Attack it, lead it near your sacrifice using your dinos, or weapons till it reaches below 10% of their hp. The female rhyniognatha should shoot out some orange glowing blob at your sacrifice, your sacrifice is now bearing a rhyniognatha. (It should be glowing orange) from there, prepare the foods it will request. Search the things that it might ask for in its "Still stuck inside your sacrifice" Phase, just incase prepare element, they can request it.
