You can aprouch them as much as they want but you smack on them and they wull swipe you dead

So I was trying to get my brother his own so when I come back with a lvl 43 he killed all my lvl 10 ones so I told him to get his own he kills me I kick him out he hacks into the system And gets rid of all of them. I was heading up to a mountain to get some metal rocks ( over the water) and i ran out of stamina i landed on the side of the mountain when these bats attacked me I managed to kill them all i i fell an died. I never got my stuff back... I recommend for beginners stamina and weight is horrible tho
