Tips & Strategies

What are tips for pteranodon? Tips and strategies for pteranodon in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Pteranodon is the fastest bird on ark. When taming starve it half way or 3/4 so you won't lose any kibble/food from it being killed by other animals, once starved but in dodo kibble and you should have a perfect tame. Good way to tame one is wait to it lands and bola it's legs and use a bat or narcotic arrows. If your out in the open but walls around it to keep it safe from other animals, or simply guard it with your life. Once tamed kill lower level animals to level up. When leveling up on worry about health, Stanima, mele damage, and movement speed. By doing that you'd have a fast deadly ptrera.
if your going to tame a pteraondon Id suggest a level 140+ with dodo kibble. to tame one u can just wait for it to land then bola it and shoot it with 2 to 4 Tranqs from a crossbow when its knocked out u will need around 26 dodo kibble to tame it i suggest starve taming. i would also suggest putting spike walls around it so noobs and wild dinos don't hit it and if something does let it wake up and knock it right back out
Dont use the starve timer doesnt work like it needs to doesnt starve long enough
While taming try not to hit the unconscious tame or let any wild creatures hurt the unconscious tame it will loose the extra taming bonus if it takes damage
To tame a higher level use starve tame.
Use a bola so it can not fly away.
Use tranqs
Best to feed dodo kibble to keep taming effectiveness higher.
Build spike walls around to protect from predators
Once tamed take to the skies just make sure you watch it's stamina as you can easily land in or around a swamp area with titanboas around to poison and kill you and your tame.
Save up some Dodo Kibble go out and Starve Tame a High Level and you got one of the best Flyers in the Game
If you are a lower level you should start by taming like a level 10-30
If you want to tame a pterandon, bola his legs quickly before he takes flight. If you want quite a few, then create a dodo farm so you can get dodo kibble. Just put it in the inventory and pretty much tamed yourself a pteradon.
On an official server, by the time you get to level 35 and you want to tame one, you can easily make some dodo egg kibble.
If you are looking for taming a high level ptera your going to need kibble, patience and narcotics
First.Bola the legs then shoot it in the head a few times with tranq arrows then you can fly to the sky all you want with your nice new tame
When you go knock out this bird a bola and a tranq arrow are necessities. Make sure you tranq it in the head not the body. Also, these guys have low health during the tame so starving it is highly suggested. This way you loose as little resources as possible. If you want to save time use dodo kibble instead of raw meat. It will save you a lot of time when taming. Good luck and survive!
These things are the meta for war. They're so quick. Too quick.
Look around at herb island (south zone 3) pteras spawn there all the time. If you don't find the desired leveled just kill them and wait for a quick respawn.
For newer players I personally do not recommend gaming a low level one for the simple fact that they are VERY squishy. It's usually best to save up kibble for them especially since dodo kibble is inexpensive and dodo's are very easy to get. Make sure to get your birds health and stamina above 2000. This give you great flying time and makes it harder to kill.
When knocking out a ptera, make sure to use a crossbow with tranqs and shoot it in the head. Just don't get too close while shooting because if you do, you will either kill it or make its health low which won't give it a good taming effectiveness.
Please throw spiked walls around your bird so that it doesn't get hit or kill by players or the wandering carnivore
Pteranodons are one of the first and easiest Dinos you can get. First game a dodo then use dodo eggs to make kibble for the pteranodon. I've knocked out level 60+ with only two tranquil arrows so it's pretty simple. I would recommend using a bola first when it lands on the ground then shooting it. If you can get it inside your base or a secure base, then no need for spikes. But if outside, use wooden spikes to surround it. But don't fully enclose it with spikes, use one wooden foundation to put down a doorway and door so you can walk in to check on it without worrying about small animals getting in.
Follow them around while they're flying. When they come to land, bola them then hit their head with some tranq arrows/darts. Be sure to use kibble if possible.
