The Obelisk
-Chapter 90-
Birds fluttered overhead. The Velonasaur’s spikes rattled as she stepped carefully through the brush. The dark orange Wyvern was just ahead, his back turned, looking out at the stars. His wings were folded around him, his tail peaceful, in contrast to its usual thumping.
He hadn’t smelled her yet. She took another step, wondering if she should call out. Or wait some more. ‘He’s not nearly as cautious as he should be,’ She thought to herself. ‘Someone could easily ambush him.’ She imagined claws ripping through the Wyverns throat.
‘Soon,’ She reminded herself. ‘Soon, when the time is right.’
The Wyverns head perked up. “Ripper, is that you?”
“Always is,” She answered, removing herself from the tangled forest.
“You’ve come early,” he said, without looking at her.
Ripper knew the Wyvern was much younger than her. His voice was still young, although his long horns suggested he was full grown. She remembered when they first met, when he was still a juvenile. “I came to tell you it worked. I found one.”
He turned to her, his expression bright. “Which one?”
“The last one,” she said. “Her name is Nyx. I found her and she bought it immediately. I recon she’s on her way now. She’ll be at the cave in at least a day.”
“That’s great,” Jethezzar said. “It looks like I can trust you, after all.”
“When have you not?” Ripper pretended to joke. She looked behind her to the forest. “If Nyx is on the move, we should get going soon, too.”
“You mean me.” Jethezzar said. She turned to stare at him. “Only I am going. If the others come looking for her, they would recognize you immediately. We can’t risk that. I hope you understand.”
Ripper stifled a grow. ‘I’ll figure something else out,’ She thought. “Of course.”
Jethezzar nodded. “I’ll probably take off tonight. Oh, and Ripper, I want to meet you halfway there, perhaps at mid-day tomorrow. There’s something I want to show you.”
Ripper narrowed her eyes, interest and suspicious sparking inside her. She knew she couldn’t ever fully trust the Wyvern. But it was a good opportunity for her plans, and she couldn’t waste the precious time she had left.
“And did you hear?” Jethezzar asked, a tiny hint of amusement in his voice.
“Hear what?”
“There’s word that a second Velonasaur is roaming through Lindbjord,” he said.
“…what?” Ripper spat.
“It might even be him,” Jethezzar went on. “Maybe you can finally get the rematch you’ve been wanting.”
“He wont beat me again,” Ripper snarled. “I’ll rip his eyes out the second I find him!”
Jethezzar smiled. “See you tomorrow, then.”

The War of the Phoenixes.
Chapter ten: Do you remember?
Josephina/ Hailey stepped out of her bedroom. All dressed and ready for training. But it wasn’t training that she was looking for. Jaquin, she needed to find him. She wasn’t sure what to call herself. Josephina? Or Hailey? She decided to stick with Josephina. It was her real name after all, and it felt homey to her.
She had remembered almost everything. ‘I’m guessing that when you’re memory is erased so many times you remember more.’ Josephina thought to herself. Should she tell father- I mean Tom? She had to stop calling him ‘father’ however it was a rather hard habit to break. But she had had a REAL father. He was kind and loved her. And that was all the mattered.
Josephina turned to Brutus. “Do you know where Jaquin, you know his real name is Jaquin right?, I need to talk to him.” Josephina said. Brutus shook his head. “Nah. If I knew where his room was…I would have finished off that pegomastax a long long time ago.” Brutus growled. Josephina couldn’t help but smile slightly at her best friend. She scratched her between his ears. “Couldn’t you trace her scent to Jaron-i mean Jaquin’s room?” Hailey asked. Brutus frowned. “I guess I could…why didn’t I think of that?”He asked, and then took a long sniff. He paused, looked at Hailey and motioned with his tail for her to follow him.
They walked until they came to a door that was closed. “This is it.” Brutus said, sitting down on his haunches. “Are you sure?” Josephina asked nervously, tugging at one of her hair braids. Brutus grinned. “Well it surely ain’t Master Tom’s room if you’re wondering. He smells like death, dust and old people. Besides…I can recognize that pegomastax’s scent a mile away.” Brutus said. Josephina sighed and raised her hand to knock on the door. “Jaron?” She called.
She heard someone moving on the other side of the door. “I can smell him! It’s the hungry murder hyenadon!” Peggie squeaked from the other side of the door. A thud sounded and Josephina heard a grunt. “Peggie! Get off my face! I can’t see! PEGGIE!!!” Jaron shouted. “Okay, okay I’m SOO sorry!! Does that satisfy you?!” Peggie asked. “No, no it doesn’t. You scratched my eye!” Jaron said. Josephina heard his footsteps coming toward the door. Slowly if opened and Jaron came out. He smiled at her. Peggie sat on his shoulder, looking nervous
Brutus licked his lips. “What do you need?” Jaron asked. Josephina took a deep breath. “I need to talk to you.” Josephina said. Jaron nodded slowly. “OK…come in.” Jaron said. “Not Brutus though!” Peggie screeched. Jaron frowned at her. “Peggie.” He said in a warning voice. Peggie grimaced, and said through clenched teeth, “Fine. Just DON’T eat me!”
They walked into Jaron’s room and Jaron shut the door behind them. In the room there was a giant rug in the middle of the room with a bed on top of it, a storage cabinet, and a tiny bed on top of the cabinet for Peggie. “Jaron, there’s something I need to tell you.” Josephina said. Jaron cocked his head at her. “Ok..what is it?” Josephina inhaled. “My name isn’t Hailey..it’s Josephina and your name isn’t Jaron it’s Jaquin. Tom is not our father.” Josephina said. Jaron frowned at her. “What are you taking about?” He asked. “We lived in a place called Tortuga, with our REAL parents and our siblings. Don’t you remember? D ok you ever wonder why we have strange dreams? Do you want ever wonder why are memory is so foggy?” Josephina asked.
Jaron blinked and shook his head. “No, no. I think we need to take you to Tom. You’re acting strange. ” He said. Josephina narrowed her eyes. “No, Jaron. It’s me Josephina! Don’t you remember Jay?! Or our parents?!” Josephina asked, a hint of desperation creeping into her voice. Jaron shook his head slowly. Suddenly the closet door began to rattle and shake. “What is that?!” Josephina asked. “What’s in there?” Jaron bit his lip. “I don’t know! The only in that closet is my clothes!” Jaron said. Brutus crouched, getting ready to pounce. “Whatever it is..I’ll take care of it.” Jaron and Josephina exchanged worried looks. The closet door shook even harder and the knob suddenly began to twist and then…

“3 hours remaining.”
Samuel’s head hung low to the ground, exhausted and filled with shame.
After defeating President Loki, Samuel, Nova, and Neddy searched for Bob and Alan within the charred remnants of the compound. They had found him curled up in a ball, next to Bob’s dead body. Nova seemed disappointed, and especially empathetic towards him, while Neddy was miserable. Samuel didn’t even know how to feel anymore. He had witnessed so much death that he just wanted to find whoever was responsible…
And kill him.
Wordlessly, with the artifacts, they, along with Ruby and Tiffany, recently awoken, traveled to the top of the mountain where the blue obelisk resided. There, they all activated the final boss process and defeated the giant gorilla that they were forced to fight.
It was a fairly easy task, especially after what they’d been through.
After teleporting back to the main island though, that’s when it all happened. The volcano seemingly came to life. Light from lava came pouring out from the inner foldings of the crater, and the three obelisks that floated on the island began to glow. The island shook, causing the ground beneath them to crack and trees around them to fall down. Dinosaurs ran, fearful of the cataclysmic event.
And then, the voices that came from their implants when the ‘Kill or be Killed’ rule was activated returned once more, warning them and urging them to travel to the volcano’s crater.
“Now here I am,” Samuel thought, looking around at the desolate surroundings of the volcano. The group had been traveling up a conveniently located path toward the crater for the past few hours, and they were still only halfway there. With only three hours on the clock, he was beginning to get uneasy.
Samuel glanced back at all of his friends.
Nova, Neddy, Ruby, Tiffany, and Alan.
The mood was somber, the smiles that once lit their faces gone. Samuel did not blame them. He felt the same way too, after all. Alan lingered near the back, holding onto his left arm tightly, while Tiffany had her fists clenched, her heartbeat still ringing into the air. Neddy and Ruby had their weapons drawn, their eyes piercing ahead. Meanwhile, Nova stumbled along, out of place with the rest of the group. Her once glittering black hair was coated in dried blood and snow, the light fading away. Her eyes were dull and unenthusiastic, and her graduation robes were ragged and tattered.
Nova looked up for a small moment, and then locked eyes with Samuel.
The two had been great friends back then, but the recent events leading up to the death of three of their friends had left a toll on their relationship. Nova’s eyes drifted back down to stare at the ground. Samuel quickly stopped in his tracks.
“Nova,” Samuel said simply, his voice shaky. His throat constricted, almost as if he were too afraid to say the words, “Can we… talk?”
“For old times sake?”
~
The two wandered near the back of their pack, letting Neddy lead for the time being. Walking side by side, both draped within the comfort of their old graduation robes, they looked almost like lovers. Samuel knew it was quite the contrary. Someone like him didn’t deserve love, after all. And especially not someone like Nova.
“It’s been a while since we’ve talked like this,” Samuel noted aloud, his head still aimed away from Nova. He couldn’t bear looking her in the eyes.
Nova blinked her eyes softly. Her robes swayed gently in the wind. She brought her hands together and fiddled with her fingers gently, yet with some anxiety to them.
“It has,” Nova replied in a whisper. Her eyes darted, staring at Samuel’s features.
His face was covered with a jagged scar that ran on his eye, and he overall looked more gritty and tough. His graduation robe was coated in mud and snow. Dried blood specks could be spotted running along his sleeves. And he looked exhausted. His long, jet black hair that ran down to his shoulders were much more scraggly and untidy. And her hands were constantly balled into fists.
“I have a question,” Nova said softly, her eyes squinted in worry,
“Did you enjoy your time here?”
“When I was first with you in that cursed dodo form, you seemed happy about the circumstance we found ourselves in,” Nova revealed, memories flying by her eyes, “So… did you?”
Samuel’s eyes hazed over, recalling his very first day on the island.
Then, he muttered his words,
“I did,” Samuel admitted, “At some times. People are complicated. That’s why… that’s why I didn’t like school. I hated all that drama. All that nonsense. All the stress, the worrying about what others will do to you. The potential outcomes for every little action you do. I never got why you were so… excited about that.”
“I guess in a way, that’s why I only stuck around with you.”
Samuel paused, regathering the words he intended to say.
“But I didn’t want anyone to get hurt here. I didn’t think-”
Samuel looked down at the palms of his hands, which trembled slightly. For a moment, his vision flickered, and he was back in harsh tundras. And then, back in the redwood forest.
“I hate your kind,” the red beast’s words lingered in his head, “Not you humans, but you monsters.”
“I’m a monster,” Samuel whispered, feeling his eyes clog up with tears, “I’m a monster, I’m just a monster, I got everybody hurt.”
“It’s my fault. It should have been me. It should have been me.”
Nova looked on ahead for a moment. It seemed she was staring at the horizon. Rays of light slowly seeped into the sky. The sun was finally rising. She turned back to Samuel, who was crying once more. His head was turned, but his body still hiccuped and heaved up and down.
Nova’s eyes darted to Samuel’s right hand, which lay still next to his side. Nova’s fingers curled out, almost reluctant, but her body quickly betrayed her. With haste, she interlocked her fingers within Samuel’s, and held on as tightly as she could.
Samuel’s hand was cold, but upon her touch it reignited in warmth. Nova looked back up at Samuel’s face, which slowly turned to face her. Determined to return her best friend back to normalcy, she clutched onto his hand tighter and pulled him in closer.
“You’re not a monster Samuel,” Nova reassured him, “No. You’re not. None of us were asked to be placed here.”
“I forgive you, Samuel.”
“For everything that’s happened.”
Samuel’s head turned to look at Nova, and his tears gradually began to fade away. He held back onto Nova’s hand tighter.
“Thank you,” Samuel muttered, “Thank you for being my best friend.”
For a quick second, Neddy looked back at the two. His eyes narrowed, and then a soft smile grew on his face. The grip on his spear loosened, his thoughts sometimes interrupted by the clanking of his metal armor.
“Look at those two,” Neddy thought, turning away to face forward.
And then loud footsteps rang out from the dead forest.
Like an earthquake, the ground shook and trembled. The dead trees around them began to fall and shatter, their roots fragile and unstable. Tiffany quickly jolted around, her eyes steady on the treelines. Ruby pointed her crossbow toward the source of the noise, an arrow nocked, and Alan gripped his metal hatchet tightly.
“What was that?!” Tiffany asked, shaken from her mourning state.
The footsteps got louder and quicker, and Samuel let go of Nova’s hand. He squinted his eyes and noticed a large mass quickly approaching them. Samuel took his spear out.
“Nova you might want to prepare yourself,” Samuel told her, “Transform into something.”
“My Rex form got wounded badly in the fight against that gorilla though…” Nova cursed to herself, “Eh, I’ll just have to deal with this.”
A white flash quickly blinded their vision, but then it faded away, revealing a large, black Gigantopithecus in Nova’s place. Nova let out a growl and pounded her fist into her chest. The implant embedded into her chest glowed, and Samuel felt his mind clearing.
And that was when it burst from the treelines.
A humongous theropod of great proportions let out a roar as it emerged, its teeth as razor sharp as sharks’. It had long spines running down its back and it seemed at least twice the size of a Rex. Its dark, red scales made it look like it was coated in blood. Samuel noticed blood dripping down its jaws, almost as if it just had a fresh kill. One thing was for certain though…
There was no way they were defeating that thing.
Alan’s face turned white at the sight, almost as if he knew what it was. Almost as if he recognized it. Alan backed away, tapping Tiffany on the shoulder lightly.
“We gotta run, NOW!” Alan screamed.
Alan was the first to bolt for it. Tall and strong, his legs took him quite far. Nova signaled at Samuel, and he nodded. Samuel hopped onto Nova’s shoulders, and Nova piggyback rode Samuel up the path. Tiffany’s thighs rippled, growing in size, and her heart raced as wings sprouted from her back again. She took flight, grabbed Neddy and Ruby, and quickly followed the others up the path.
The six quickly conglomerated, their breaths unsteady and sweat quickly filling their foreheads. Samuel turned back. The dinosaur was fast. Too fast. It ran like an Olympic runner, its powerful legs causing the ground to shake and rumble.
Boom!
BOOM!
“You know what that is?” Tiffany asked, her wings flapping fast. Alan gulped, and nodded.
“I do. A-A man named Jerry tried to kill me and Bob back at our shelter,” Alan explained through pants, “I managed t-to tear his arm off. Jerry should be dead, but obviously that thing isn’t. There’s no way we can take it on in a fight.”
Nova’s head whipped around, and she let out a monkey grunt. The dinosaur was getting close. Too close.
“We have to think of something, and fast,” Ruby gasped, “We can’t run forever.”
But as the group turned a corner, their Hail Mary was revealed. Neddy’s eyes sparkled at the sight, and Samuel narrowed his eyes, suddenly realizing who it was.
“Look, over there!” Neddy shouted,
“It’s the Book Club!”
~
Ben tread along the path with all of his friends by his side. Hands in his pockets, he had no enthusiasm left to garner. He looked side to side at everyone that had come along for the ride. There were so many of them it was hard to count. Paige was talking to Chris about something, and he was holding onto his dodo bird. On the other hand, Sunny was blasting waves of heat to everyone in the group to keep them warm, and Gary was near the front of the group with his gun out. Rick hung out near the back, nervously fidgeting with his knife. Bobby and Simon hung out around the middle, unusually quiet.
Meanwhile, Carlos and Paul were taking in the grand sights of the outer volcano, Ian and Patricia were talking about their favorite ice cream flavors, the albino capybara that John tamed (which he now named Snowy Mole) was trotting along by their side, and Landon was whistling a song to himself.
“My fave is mint chocolate chip,” Patricia told Ian while fixing her double bun hair. Ian scratched the back of his head.
“Never heard of anyone liking that yucky flavor,” Ian chuckled. Patricia scoffed at his words.
“Everyone likes mint chocolate chips. What are you talking about?”
“Nah, you must be crazy.”
Ben rolled his eyes, and then glanced at Paige.
When he had first read her eyes, he didn’t know such an implant attribute like that was even possible. The blobs she had seen reminded Ben of… her. Still, Ben understood the differences between the two. In a way, it was one of the reasons why she had also been distrustful of the new recruits, more specifically, Aurora and Samuel.
“I wonder where those two are. And that Neddy and Ruby,” Ben thought, his eyes looking down at the floor, “And I wonder where Tiffany is too.”
Ben felt oddly guilty about her. Nobody seemed to care about searching for her. Even though she was quiet and new in her time in the Book Club back home, he still felt as if it wasn’t right to exclude her. Still, it was not the time for the hypothetical thoughts. He needed to focus on the path ahead.
But then a roar burst from afar.
“GROARRRRRRAH!”
John’s ears perked up, and he turned around. He adjusted his straw hat and squinted his eyes.
“What was that?” John asked curiously. Bobby looked back and forth in anticipation and then said,
“Y-yeah! What was that?”
Ben tugged on his white graduation robe, and then vines sprouted from his sleeves. His energy still felt low after the battle with June, but he got a bit of juice back on the journey to the volcano.
“Prepare yourselves,” Ben simply said.
Almost as quick as the rising sun, they heard fast footsteps approaching them. However, they were not that of a dinosaur’s, they were humans'. And they were coming from behind them. Everyone turned around and noticed a group of five running toward them, along with a Gigantopithecus. Bobby gasped at the sight.
“Hey! Look, there’s Neddy and Ruby! And… TIFFANY?!” Bobby cried out, “She’s still alive!”
The rest of the Book Club members began to murmur amongst each other about her arrival. Ben’s friends seemed confused, and so did Landon and Patricia. They scratched their heads, unbeknownst to them Tiffany’s importance.
Ben narrowed his eyes at the approaching group. He was not worried about finally meeting Tiffany after what seemed to be months. He was more worried about the fact that one of the recruits was gone.
“Where’s Aurora?” Ben asked himself, “And who’s that tall guy?”
A thought suddenly dawned on him, and his eyes widened. He noticed Samuel riding atop the back of the Gigantopithecus. It was then Ben also realized that his pet dodo bird was gone.
Before Ben had time to connect the dots, the tall guy screamed out,
“EVERYBODY RUN!”
“GROARHHHH!”
The dinosaur came running around the corner, skidding to a halt to get back to its bearings. It let out another fierce roar and started running at them, and everyone screamed and began to run alongside the six.
“SO MUCH FOR PEACEFUL REUNIONS!” Simon howled as he hobbled along with his comically large backpack. Ben looked back at the dinosaur, which was already starting to catch up to them. Ben clenched his fists, and vines began to emerge from the side of the mountain.
SWOOSH SWOOSH SWOOSH!
A barrage of vines shot out, blocking the path. The dinosaur let out a roar and tore through it like paper, and Ben looked back ahead, his plan clearly foiled. There was no delaying this.
They would just have to pray that there would be something ahead to help them.
Just then, Patricia pointed up ahead. She showed no signs of fatigue on her face, but it was clear she was sweating bullets and she was tiring out. Then, her eyes lit up at what was ahead.
“Another turn in the path!” Patricia shouted through gasps.
With unseen haste, the group made their turn. Samuel’s eyes looked around. As they landed on Ben’s white graduation robe, his gaze softened, and he felt his heart churn. He quickly ignored the pain but then halted in his tracks when he realized everyone else was frozen in fear.
Laying in front of them was another gigantic dinosaur, laying on the ground with its tail wrapped around its body. It seemed to be just as large as the dinosaur chasing them, yet it had a different physiology. It seemed more robust, and it was a light blue color.
“GROARHHHH!” the dinosaur from before roared.
Immediately, the giant dinosaur stirred, and it lifted its head up. Then it opened its eyes to reveal blazing orange eyes like the sun. Everyone stepped back, and Ben and Rick’s eyes widened. Simultaneously, they said,
“Giganotosaurus.”
The Giganotosaurus quickly rose to its feet, looking down upon the humans as if they were snacks (which they were). With the other dinosaur coming close, their hope seemed nill.
“Should I- Should I cut their arms off?” Landon asked, his implant already glowing. Carlos shook his head.
“No. Please don’t,” Carlos begged him, “I’m already running low on medical brews. Emergencies only.”
“This IS an emergency!” Landon screamed back.
John held his hand out, shielding the others.
“John? What are you doing?!” Paul asked, scared. John looked back for a second, and then turned to face the Giganotosaurus.
“Don’t worry.”
“I’ve got this handled.”
John dashed up to the Giganotosaurus, and before it could react, he reached out and pressed his palm against the dinosaur’s leg. John’s implant began to glow, and then the orange glow from its eyes disappeared. In an instant, John’s eyes fluttered, and he collapsed to the ground.
“JOHN!” Ian shouted, rushing up to him. Snowy Mole let out a grunt of worry and also rushed to his side, sniffing his hair. The pounding of the other dinosaur’s footsteps was getting closer. There wasn’t much time left, but Ian didn’t care. He held his friend up to inspect him. John was breathing softly, but he looked knocked out for a while.
The Giganotosaurus grumbled, stepping forward. Chris let out a squeal of worry, dashing out of the way with his dodo. The Giganotosaurus was staring at the other approaching dinosaur, and then it glared. Samuel had no idea who these new people were, but they had just turned the tide against the bloodthirsty dinosaur. He must have tamed it with his implant attribute.
“Thanks, whoever you are,” Samuel thanked in his head.
The Giganotosaurus let out a fierce roar as the sun rose higher into the sky, painting the sky in a mixture of blood red and orange. Then, it charged toward the beast.
KABOOM!
They both rammed their giant skulls into one another, causing a tremor to be sent out. Sunny almost fell off balance, but Paige quickly caught her, holding her up to support her. With both theropods up against each other, it was clear the Giganotosaurus was bulkier and bigger, however the Carcharodontosaurus seemed to be more energetic and sporadic. It surely would be a battle for the books…
“WOO HOO! You go get ‘em Juliet!” Neddy shouted, having already named the Giganotosaurus.
“There’s no time to waste!” Ruby shouted at them all, “Let’s get to the volcano! I doubt that thing will want to go inside, we’ll be safe there!”
“Agreed,” Bobby yelled back, “Let’s go!”
With that, they were on the run up the path again. Gary quickly looked back, pointing his revolver at the other dinosaur and shooting at its leg.
PEW!
As soon as the bullet hit its mark, blood spewed out onto the ground, albeit very little, it still caused a minor setback for the dinosaur. It let out a fierce roar and then it was pushed back.
WOOSH!
A cloud of dust flew everywhere, blinding both dinosaurs’ visions. The Giganotosaurus looked around, confused, and scared. The Giganotosaurus whimpered, bringing its arms closer to its body and swishing its tail around anxiously.
The beast suddenly came rushing in from the side, latching onto Juliet’s side like a wild dog. It chowed down on its scales, tearing flesh off its bones. Juliet let out a howl and frantically ran around, unsure of what to do with itself. Lumbering and slow, within this cloud of dust, Juliet was easy pickings for the other beast.
~
TING TING TING!
“Alrighty there we go,” Bobby said, putting his hammer back on his belt. A large stone wall lay in the crevice where the path leads to the volcano’s crater. There was no way the beast was getting through. Simon wiped some sweat off his forehead. The tensions were starting to die down
“Blasted heat,” Paige murmured to herself, tapping her foot against the ground impatiently. Ruby looked at her cautiously. Then stared off at the bottom of the crater.
It was like a furnace in the crater of the volcano. There was a shaky, rocky path toward the bottom of it but molten magma still remained. Samuel squinted his eyes and noticed another terminal at the bottom, similar to the ones that lay below the obelisks. Most peculiar though was the strange metal, futuristic door that lay in front of it.
“What is that?” Ian asked.
“Looks like a door to me,” Neddy replied with a shrug. Ian looked at Neddy with an annoyed look on his face.
“Wow… didn’t know that.”
Nova quickly transformed back into her human form, analyzing the site carefully. Ben looked at her weirdly, his eyebrow raised.
“Where did she come from?” Ben thought. He shook the thoughts away, “Whatever.”
“Let’s get down to that terminal. Mind flying us down Tiff?”
Tiffany grumbled to herself, but complied.
“Fine.”
One by one, Tiffany flew each and every one of them down to the terminal. When it was Samuel’s turn to go down, Tiffany held onto Samuel’s collar tight, and a vein popped off the side of her hand. She leaned in and whispered something into his ear,
“You’re lucky your little friend is here to watch, otherwise I’d have tossed you into the lava,” Tiffany snarled. Samuel gulped and began to sweat as Tiffany carried him off the ground. She sweetly smiled, closing her eyes mischievously.
“Well, I am trying to save as many people as possible,” she told him, “I shouldn’t do that should I?”
With that, Tiffany slowly drifted down with Samuel in her grip, dropping him onto the ground hard in front of the others. Tiffany landed on her two feet and her wings folded back.
“Okay. So another one of these terminals,” Rick said, walking up to inspect the stand. Sunny pointed at it.
“It doesn’t have the button like the ones at the obelisk though.”
“That’s because it needs an implant,” Samuel interrupted them. The Book Club members looked at him as if he were insane.
“Okay. First off, how do you know that, and second off, where will we even get one?” Patricia asked. She grumbled to herself and rubbed her forehead, closing her eyes, “I’m getting a really bad headache.”
“You too?” Ian asked, looking up at her, “I’ve had one too since we got into the crater.”
“Now that you mention it… I do too,” Neddy commented, “Maybe it’s the heat?”
Soon, everyone else experienced the same migraines that Ian, Patricia, and Neddy had. It was quite an odd case, and Samuel was beginning to feel uneasy.
“This doesn’t feel right,” Samuel thought as could hear his heartbeat in his ears, “No… It definitely isn’t right.”
Before anything happened, Samuel’s headache magically vanished. And so did everyone else’s, because they looked up, relieved. Neddy let out a sigh, putting his hands in his pockets.
“Well I guess it’s over now!” Neddy said, “Now, to figure out how to get an implant-”
KAKRASH!
Everyone’s heads jolted to see the stone walls tumbling down. The beast from before came charging in, skidding to a halt and letting out a ferocious roar.
“GROAHHHH!” it howled again. More blood seeped from its jaws, and it seemed to have even more energy than before. It stared on the friends, and Bobby groaned.
“You’ve gotta be serious…”
Alan gulped, raising his metal hatchet.
“It can’t reach us from here, right?” Alan asked aloud, “We could p-push it into the lava.”
The beast lumbered forward.
And then it paused.
It looked onwards at the lake of lava, its eyes darting to it and then the humans. It grumbled, and took a step back, clearly not wanting to take the risk. It curled its claws in frustration, and swished its tail around irritably.
Oddly enough, Samuel noticed its eyes getting bloodshot red.
And then the monster’s eyes widened in fear.
Blood poured from its eyes, and with a sickening burst blood shot out from all the cuts and gashes it had received from its battle against the Giganotosaurus.
SPLAT!
“ROARRR!”
The dinosaur trembled as blood began to pool out around its body. It stumbled forward, and then it fell down into the lake of lava. Bobby’s eyes widened and he quickly grabbed a bunch of materials from Simon’s backpack.
“EVERYONE BRACE YOURSELVES!” he screamed as he speed built a wall around them.
SLAM!
KABOOM!
Blood-infused lava splashed out, creating a wave and hitting the stone wall. The walls around them began to crack, and Alan couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“BLEGHHHHHH!” Alan vomited all across the rocky stone. Sunny scrunched her face at the sight, stepping away from him, and Ben, who was carrying John, backed away from him slowly. Alan’s stomach grumbled softly, and he moaned as he keeled over, falling onto his knees.
“That was horrible,” Alan stated.
The lava around them seemed to cool down, the bubbling that resulted from the blood sizzling within the magma coming to halt. Everyone around them let out sighs of relief. The danger was seemingly over.
But then, a child-like giggle echoed throughout the crater.
“O, Romeo, Romeo!” a familiar voice shouted out, “Where are you Romeo?”
Alan’s eyes widened in fear.
“No… It can’t be him. He should be dead,” Alan muttered. Samuel looked at him worriedly.
“What are you talking about?”
“HIM!” Alan pointed over the wall. Landon scratched the back of his head.
“Hate to break it to you but we can’t see from down here-”
KAKRASH.
KABOOM!
Instantly the stone wall came tumbling down, and Bobby let out a shrill scream of fear, his work effortlessly destroyed. Blood was collected around the foundation of the wall, wriggling around like sentient worms. Everyone looked on ahead at one of the floating rocks in the lava.
Standing there was a muscular man with a right arm covered in blood, no, it was MADE of blood. He wore gray sweatpants stained with guts and entrails, and was seemingly barefoot in the hellish landscape. He had dead, black hair and many golden rings on his fingers. He had a devilish grin plastered on his face, and a golden tooth shone inside. Most notably was the golden cross necklace wrapped around his neck, and the red aura that dissipated from his body. His left eye glowed red, and the blood instantly flew toward him, wrapping around his chest like armor.
“Well, that thing was useless anyway,” the man said, his voice unusually loud, “I don’t need it anymore. Just me. Now. KNEEL.”
The demon placed his hands together and pulled at the fabric of the world, as if he were trying to tear apart space and time. Ian and Paige’s eyes widened, seemingly knowing what he was up to.
“He’s going to activate Attribute Amplification!” Ian thought.
“He has the intent to harm,” Paige murmured, noticing the red blobs covering his face, “No, he intends to do much more. He wants to kill.”
Without a word, the two instantly rushed at him. Jumping from rock to rock, the two reached him in a matter of seconds, and they landed their assault on him. Paige whacked his club into his side, interrupting his Amplification, and as he was sent flying toward Ian, Ian pulled his fist back and slammed it into his face.
KAPOW!
The demon was sent flying into the lake of lava, but not before his armor of blood transformed into a wave, catching his body safely and bringing him to another rock. Jerry snarled and waved his hand. Two arrows made of blood rushed in from nowhere, plunging themselves into the twos’ ankles.
SHINK! SHINK!
“YOUCH!” Ian cried, falling onto one knee and holding onto his foot. Paige did the same, grunting to herself and dropping her club onto the ground. Patricia reached out her hand to the two.
“Paige! Ian!” she cried out. The demon smiled some more.
“Enough playing around,” he said, “It’s time to end this once and for all.”
Alan clenched his fists.
“I didn’t want to run into him again. Jerry’s strong,” Alan muttered, “The only way I was able to hurt him was-”
Alan paused, frozen in fear. Ben looked at him with frustration.
“What was?! How do we kill him?!” Ben asked. Alan didn’t respond, and Ben shook his head, turning to Nova and Tiffany.
“Tiffany, you,” Ben said, nodding her head at Nova, “Let’s go fight him. Everyone else, prepare an ambush or something. Whatever happens, don’t let him activate his Attribute Amplification. I have a feeling it will not be pretty.”
Tiffany nodded and flew Mach 10 at ‘Jerry’, while Nova transformed into an Argentavis and took flight as well. Ben handed John over to Paul, and then he rushed forward, jumped off the ledge of the rock, and then a vine came flying in from the wall. He held onto it and swung over to Jerry, who was preparing to activate Amplification.
“ATTRIBUTE AMPLIFICATION!” Jerry shouted, “PURG-”
POW!
Ben instantly kicked the side of Jerry’s head, and Jerry was sent flying back. He skidded to a halt, and Jerry grinned, waving his hand and causing more blood arrows to go flying at him. Ben dodged the first few, but then the next struck him in the leg. He let out a groan of pain, clutching onto his side.
Tiffany and Nova quickly rushed in to fill in for him. Nova transformed into a Gigantopithecus and slammed her fist into Jerry, and Tiffany came in to Jerry’s opposite side and grew her fist out to the size of a watermelon. With as much power as she could, she launched it into the side of Jerry’s head like a baseball bat.
Jerry stumbled to the side, and blood shot out his lips, landing onto the stone rock. The sound of Tiffany’s heartbeat filled the volcano crater, and Jerry chuckled, noticing the difference. Jerry raised his hand, and then balled it into a fist.
“Wrong move!” Jerry shouted.
KASPLAT!
Tiffany let out a gasp as her heart suddenly froze, not making a single sound. She clutched at her chest and all her adaptations disappeared. Blood began to pour from her nostrils, and then Jerry let go. Tiffany, dizzy, collapsed onto her back, passed out.
“Pathetic.”
Nova didn’t waste any more time with an attack of her own. She did a full roundhouse kick toward Jerry’s skull, but Jerry quickly blocked with a kick of his own. His golden cross necklace swayed about as the two traded blow after blow. Jerry grinned, and a sword made of blood manfiested in his hands. He slashed it at her chest, and blood erupted like a fountain from the wound. A white flash blinded everyone as Nova transformed back into human form.
“You know-” Nova shouted in between gasps, “I enjoyed the fights and shows you put on back at home. But now I can see you’re just a crazy bastard who deserves to die!”
Jerry chuckled, and as Nova rushed forward to attack him again, Jerry punched Nova in the face so hard she blacked out. Jerry turned to face the others at the terminal. He didn’t care that they had all seemingly disappeared except for that tall freak Alan. All he saw was red in his vision, and Alan was next on his list.
“AFTER ALL THIS TIME AND YOU’RE STILL STANDING?!” Jerry lashed out, “I notice that your old man of a friend is nowhere around! What, is he dead?”
Alan clenched his fists, glaring at him.
“I’m so tired of you Jerry!” Alan cried out, “I tried to be nice to you after what happened between us, but it’s clear to me you’re just a monster who needs to be put down! You didn’t deserve a friend like her, putting her life down for yours.”
Jerry’s face contorted as he uttered those words, and the lava around them began to rise.
“What… Did you just say?” Jerry said, his smile turned to a glare. Alan glared back.
“You heard what I said!” Alan barked back, “YOU DON’T DESERVE A FRIEND LIKE HER!”
Jerry let out a howl of rage, and crouched down, preparing to jump all the way over to Alan, when suddenly something blunt and hard hit him upside the head.
CLANG!
Jerry let out a yelp of pain as his head wobbled around. His attacker, Carlos, let out a chuckle as held onto his trusty frying pan. Paul and Landon quickly rushed in and slashed at Jerry’s side.
SLASH!
More blood spilled from Jerry’s body, but it quickly stopped. Before Jerry had a chance to react Bobby and Simon suddenly jumped down onto the same rock, building a wall around him. The four quickly ran away, not daring to test his anger.
“Dude we can’t hurt him!” Carlos shouted to the other three, “If he can bloodbend he’ll just stop his wounds!”
“If that’s the case then…” Landon said, his implant glowing, “I’ll have to do this.”
Carlos’ eyes widened.
“Wait, what did I tell you about using your attribute-”
SLASH!
Landon let out a howl of pain, as his voodoo attribute came into effect. He didn’t have any wounds outside his body, but as blood poured from his lips, it was clear what he intended to do.
He had cut his own heart in half.
“LANDON!” Carlos shouted, reaching for his belt and pulling out a medical brew, “Goddamn it you could have warned us, come on drink up and-”
Carlos slammed the bottle to his lips, but as the red liquid fused with the blood, and Landon struggled to swallow, a daunting thought crossed both of their minds. Landon’s eyes weakly darted over to Jerry, who seemed unaffected by his voodoo.
“Why didn’t it work?” Landon muttered, as the life faded from his eyes, “Why…”
Landon’s head rolled back.
“NO!” Carlos yelled into his face, “No, you’re not dying on me just yet buddy- no you’re not.”
Tears formed in Paul’s eyes.
“Landon…” he softly said.
They heard thumps behind them, signifying Gary, Sunny, Rick, Patricia, and Chris landing on the rock to face off against Jerry next. But it was clear that none of them had the fighting prowess to take him face to face, even in a group. With a single wave of his hand, a wave of blood rushed in from nowhere and knocked them all away.
As they tumbled away, Jerry placed his hands together.
There was no use, really.
He was just too powerful.
“ATTRIBUTE AMPLIFICATION,” Jerry shouted,
“Purgatory.”
In a matter of seconds, hands made of blood instantly reached out from the ground and latched onto everyone, trying their best to pull them into the earth. Whispers echoed in everyone’s ears, and clouds began to gather around the volcano. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and blood began to fall from the sky.
“For each person I kill, another pair of hands is added to my collection,” Jerry explained maniacally, “And for each person I kill, the longer the Amplification lasts.”
Alan remained the only one unlatched. He held onto his metal hatchet tightly, and he was staring at the ground, almost filled with shame and a sense of defeat.
“Isn’t it beautiful Alan?” Jerry shouted, “My idea of the perfect world will soon come true. You know what? I don’t think anyone deserves to survive. Not even me. We should all be burning in hell.”
Jerry looked up, and the aura around him burst tenfold.
“BUT I’LL BRING YOU ALL DOWN WITH ME!”
Alan stumbled forward, his body heaving in laughter.
“Is that so?” Alan asked, “Well… If you want to do that?”
Alan then looked up, and his eyes were dry and bloodshot red.
“YOU’LL HAVE TO TRY A LITTLE HARDER THAN THAT.”
Jerry let out a maniacal laugh, balling his fists as tightly as he could.
“I’ve been waiting for you to pull that out again…”
In an instant, the two charged at one another. Alan swung his metal hatchet at Jerry first, and it lodged right into his ribs. Jerry let out a laugh as he slammed his head into Alan’s, and Alan stumbled back, pulling the metal hatchet out of Jerry’s side. The blood from the wound spilled out and attacked Alan in the form of spikes. Alan swiftly dodged each one, his hunger taking him to heights he had never reached in his normal form.
As blood rained from the sky, wings began to grow on Jerry’s back. Jerry grinned, and as Alan rushed forward to attack him again, Jerry weaved to the side and then grabbed Alan by the throat.
SHOOM!
Jerry instantly took off to the skies, taking Alan with him, akin to an angel ascending to heaven. As Jerry flew closer and closer to the clouds, Alan struggled in disdain to free himself from his grasp. Alan leaned forward and bit down on Jerry’s left shoulder, and he tore a chunk of his flesh off, but Jerry didn’t seem to care.
Jerry looked up at the heavens, his eyes filled with tears.
“I’LL MAKE YOU SAY HOW PROUD YOU ARE OF ME!” Jerry cried.
Tentacles made of blood shot out from his back, writhing like worms. They punctured Alan’s arms and legs, and Alan howled, his hunger making his head hurt and his conscious blur. Alan took the hatchet and swung it at Jerry’s ankle.
SLASH!
It dug deep into his skin, but Jerry was too high on adrenaline to even notice. With crazed eyes, Jerry lifted Alan up in the air and threw him full throttle down toward the volcano’s crater. The volcano began to rumble, as their implants flashed purple.
“10 MINUTES REMAINING!”
Jerry let out a laugh as Alan plummeted to the ground, and he quickly followed with his wings. Alan’s jaw unhinged, his hunger gnawing away at his stomach like a disease. It was monster against monster. Horns shot out of Jerry’s head, and his hair burst into flames. Blood coursed throughout his entire body, turning his skin a deep red.
“YOU’RE NOTHING TO ME!” Jerry screamed out as the crater came back into full view. Alan licked his lips, and then his back hit the hard stone.
CRACK!
Jerry landed on his two feet, looking down at Alan with no remorse or pity. Alan’s eyes seemed lifeless, but as Jerry approached him he stirred. Jerry’s eyes widened. He had faked his death.
Like a zombie, Alan grabbed his hatchet off the floor and swung it vertically toward Jerry’s sternum.
SLASH!
Jerry howled in pain as Alan tore away at his chest, ripping his flesh off and exposing his inner organs. Blood gathered around her beating heart, which pumped his body full of blood. Jerry cackled, stepping backwards and looking downwards at her heart.
BUM BUM!
BUM BUM!
Jerry looked up, smiling softly.
“Esmeralda…” Jerry whispered, getting into a fighting position,
“Just hold on a little longer.”
KABOOM!
Blood exploded into a storm of dust, coating the two in red. Alan stepped back and Jerry attacked him full force. Punch after punch, Alan was sent stumbling backwards, his life slowly wavering. Without food, Alan would soon starve to death. His rush would be over soon enough, and Jerry knew it.
Soon, Jerry and Alan’s fight reached the large, futuristic metal door that was glowing blue. Jerry grabbed onto Alan’s throat again and slammed him into the door, over and over again.
BAM, BAM, BAM!
Blood was left on the door, and Alan’s eyes slowly began to close.
It was futile.
Esmeralda’s heart pumped faster and faster, and Jerry’s head began to ring and his vision began to wane.
“Stay awake,” Jerry whispered to himself. He shut his eyes tightly, and a single tear dribbled down his cheek, “Just long enough to see…”
“My way.”
BAM!
Alan’s body went limp, and his head wobbled around like a bobblehead. Jerry began to pant heavily. Their implants flashed purple again.
“5 MINUTES REMAINING!”
Alan weakly grasped at Jerry’s wrist that held him. Blood spilled from his lips. Even though he had no control over his actions, his mind still felt obligated to say something to him.
“This… isn’t what Esmeralda would have wanted,” Alan gasped, “She gave her life up because she loved you. She… wanted you to do good.”
Her name instantly made Jerry’s aura flicker away. Jerry opened his eyes, stepping away slowly. Esmeralda’s heart still beats in Jerry’s chest, despite being exposed to the air for so long. Jerry blinked his eyes, and then tears began to fall. He had no words to say, and he seemed lost in thoughts. And old memories.
Letting go of Alan, he took the opportunity.
Alan grabbed his metal hatchet, and then swung it full force at Jerry’s hips.
SLASH!
KAKRACK!
It dug deep into his body, at least halfway. Jerry’s eyes widened, and his body began to turn less red. Alan reached his hatchet back again and then swung it back at the wound.
KAKRACK!
And then again, and again.
PLOP.
Jerry’s upper body collapsed to the ground, leaving his legs standing up. Alan began to pant, exhausted, and wounded. As Jerry began to die, the Attribute Amplification collapsed. The clouds cleared away, and the bloody hands that held everyone to the ground let go, going back into the ground. Carlos, sensing Alan’s hunger, tossed him a piece of steak.
Alan ignored the steak though, and slowly, his bloodshot eyes returned to normal. For some reason, he felt invigorated, yet guilty at the same time. The hunger was no longer there, and he felt more energetic. Strength collected in his arms and legs like water. Alan walked up to Jerry’s upper half, looking down at him sadly. He was dead, yet Alan still felt as if he had something to say.
“I wish it didn’t have to be this way, Jerry. I don’t believe in heaven. But, rest well,” Alan told him, “Maybe we could even been friends in another time. But I promise I won’t forget you for as long as I live.”
For a moment, Alan expected that nothing would happen. But then, a smirk tugged at the corner of Jerry’s lips.
“Heh,” Jerry thought, as he felt his life fade away from his body,
“Me too.”
I tamed one today it didn't take much berries im new to the game only lvl 10 but I have a saddled parasourolophus and he and my new pachy became best friends im trying to get saddled pachy so I'm taking good care of it I need 4 more lvls I was very scared during taming process because I got killed by a raptor I went back to see my new tamed pachy demolish the raptor my para helped so now I'm farming food and taming some new creatures I wanted to tame the raptor but they killed it so ima try to find a new one just lucky that my para and pachy became best friends
Story about my most loved pachy: Jenga
So, when I was on my MOST LOVED sever, (I got banned from it for no reason so I started crying 😭😭😭AND NOW ITS GONNA BE A PRIVATE SEVER APPARENTLY) I was a noob on the sever. When I saw some pachys, (btw I only have 2 paras, 1 igounadon, dilo pack, dodo, and more. I think..) I tamed one of them. It was a low lvl though. (I think.) I named it jenga. Bc of the round shape head that apparently, is like a hard bone. I made her/he a saddle and started farming some resources. I saw that a stegosaurus was coming close to my base. (2 stegos.) when I came home, I decided I should kill the stegos before they attack my base. (I had spikes by my base that’s why.) I hit the stego with my fists and my high lvl igounodon and all my Dino’s started attacking it. Most of them died. And…so did jenga.
#R.I.P. JENGA

Saw one of these guys near the beach and decided it would be my first tame. I tamed it right after I finished making a wood house and found... these guys’ carry weight and stamina are terrible. Their health too. Riding one I was actually slower than my unit graded base player speed running on the ground. Pacu the pachy saved me from a few troodons, and lived to tell the tale, but I suggest DEFINITELY get a different first tame. Still pretty good for later in the game, but over all... not the best.
How I went from dodo to Rex part 4: pachyoattacks
Like I say I am a big noob at ark, I start punching away at trees with my tool, I have a recipe for wooden walls, floors, and a roof, I upgrade my base to that.
After that upgrading I start exploring, I go into a lake, it was a big mistake.
A see a fish, with sharp teeth, they attack me, I escape, I find a dinosaur, smaller than me on level 6, it looks like it has a dome, and spikes all over it.
I start gathering tintoberrys and knock the odd Dino out, I feed it, I see a menu after taming, it says passive, I change it to neutral, I see what that does, I am low on hunger, I attack a dinosaur, the Pachy attacks it too!
Next part will be on parasaur.
Me and my blue level 43 pachy we’re going on my raft to the other side of the map (we were on the easy side of map island* to tame some scorpions. But a sarco had other plans this sarco comes onto my raft and knocks my pachy off I try to kill it but it chases my peachy then Malala dons arrived there were 5. My pachy killed the sarco and 3 megaladons but then my pachy died to the last 2
R.I.P Pachy 2020-2020
There I was, about to raid the alpha tribe with the max level pachy I had just tamed. I walked up to the leader (sneakily) as I waited for him to spot me. One he did I said "HEADS UP MOTHER TRUCKER" knocked em right out. None of his other tribe mates were online so I stole his stuff, a TON of plant X, some tek structures, and ascendant stuff. Best, most successful raid EVER
Once I found an egg and thought "oh an egg. Dunno what happen if I pick it up." I picked it up and I get attacked and I'm like "WHAT THE-" and a pachy was attacking me. I got knocked unconscious and died. I went to where I died with a dilo named Frill (R.I.P Frill) I found my last death and took all. And it started attacking again.i got knocked unconscious and died again it happened again without Frill. After dying. I learned my lesson. No taking Pachy eggs.
