Chapter four: The Nightmare

Chomp POV

It was the nightmare again. The same one that had been tormenting me ever since that day. Ever since the slaughter. The Carnos charged into the den. I tried to save my pack. I failed. Over and over and over I watched them get killed. Every time, I tried to scream, tried to warn them, but no sound escaped my mouth. Every time, I would grab Nibble’s egg and run. This time was no different. The Carnos stormed in, knocking over an Allo standing at the entrance, causing him to fall onto a stalagmite that penetrated his throat. Then, they ripped Snap, my brother, to shreds before anyone else even knew what was happening. The battle lasted for thirty minutes. By that point, most of the Allos were dead and Sylvia was unconscious on the ground. Than, my dad, the pack leader, told me to grab an egg and run. I tried to argue with him, but there was no time. So, grabbed an egg, and I ran. I ran and ran and ran until the sound of the last of my pack getting mercilessly slaughtered behind was all but background noise. And every night, when I have that dream, I can’t help but think, if I had stayed, could I have done something to prevent it?
