Tips & Strategies

When sending these guys out to gather, go to herbivore island (the one in the southeast where you must use an Ichthyosaurus or a raft and not the one near the red obelisk) or you run the risk of them dieting to predators. Believe me, I currently have one named Rusty (for his color pattern), and he’s got 1216 health currently. He was attacked by a Spino while he was innocently gathering berries for me one day, and he continued to gather from trees while attacked accidentally biting the Spino as he did so, doing about 200 damage each bite. This MASSIVE amount of damage was enough to scare away the Spino after about 5 or 6 bites, and then my scorpion chased it until it ran to the water for safety in an act of surrender. If you don’t have access to rafts or Ichthyosaurus (do the quest to tame one to get a saddle for it) then do your research on the island’s regions and then find a safe region so your Moschops can gather in peace. More Moschops Utility Tips
This guy is my favorite dino to start. It can farm LOTS of fiber, chitin, berries, rare mushrooms, rare flowers, polymer, etc. And it has a considerably good melee and health. But people don't see its value just because its a big coward iguana... Lmao. But for real, they're really one of the best dinos to get at the beginning, if not the best. Give this an up to let people know.
The Moschops is in my opinion the best starter dino, on a new survivor I always make finding this guy my first priority….reasons?
1. No saddle needed.
2. Can quickly gather the essentials like fibre/thatch/berries…
3. They’re actually rather fearsome when ridden, they can easily fight off dilo’s and wrestle with trikes/turtles…..if you tame a higher level Moschops and level in melee and hp you can comfortably engage with bigger threats like raptors and carno.
4. Eating one Trilobite provides enough Chitin to make a Petra saddle….which is usually my second priority on a new survivor.
5. Can be tamed with just a few Tinto or Mejoberry….if it wants something ridiculous like honey just save/reload until you get the easy option…
6. Moschops will always tame at 100% effectiveness as you either have what it wants or you don’t.
Cons: It’s pretty slow but still significantly safer than travelling on foot. Its stamina regen is painfully slow.
Summary: A Moschops will allow you to hit the ground running during your first day or two on the ark. Their ability to collect a wide range of resources while keeping you safe from threats is everything you need in a starter mount.
If you raise your Moschops for battle you may be surprised at just how powerful they can be….the base damage of their bite is 32 and has a fairly wide AOE….my Warchops has successfully fought Rex and Spinos and demolished countless Raptors.
Moschops is literally one of the best chitin and polymer farmers, if not the best. Kill trilobites with it and you'll see how much chitin it gets (and a bit of oil and pearls too). I spent the last hour killing trilobites with Potato (my Moschops) and got two chests full of chitin. Apparently people don't know this so give it an up to let everyone know.
