-Chapter 65: Part 2-
He pulled his arm further back. Baring his teeth, he imaged slicing his claws through the Emperors body.
âMidnight, no!â
He slammed his eyes shut. The nightmare. The nightmare. his cousin leaping in the way. Umber screaming as Midnightâs talons raked acrossed his chest. âIt was an accident.â
He forced his eyes open and grinded his teeth together. His breathing quickened, his heartbeat throbbing through his head. âCome on. Come on! Kill him! kill him now!â
But his talon was as far back as it could get, and it did not move. He stared down in rage and sadness and terror at the quiet, sleeping Terror bird.
ââŠRAARGH!â
The roar echoed through the room, causing the Emperor to wake up. he blinked rapidly, rubbing his eyes with the edges of his wings.
But by the time he lifted his head to scan the room for the noise, all was quiet, and the assassin was gone.

âAny text from him yet?â a lady with slightly aging hair asked. She had dark bags under her eyes, and was sitting at the dining table facing a man with a deep tan across his body. The man also had aging, gray hair, but he didnât seem as tired or stressed as the lady.
âNo, unfortunately,â the man replied, âHeâs always been bad at texting back, but itâs been a week already. Somethingâs wrong. And I think you know it.â
âAnd what are we supposed to do now, huh Son?! Just up and go out and look for him? That doesnât make any sense!â
âDonât worry T. You know weâre going to figure it out soon enough. He isnât the only one whoâs disappeared. Hundreds of reports have been made to the police about the disappearances. Something big is going on.â
âBrother, do you think the police will even bother doing something about this?â
Son narrowed his eyes at his sister and frowned.
âTracy, we arenât in the West. Weâre in the United Republic of Democracies. Thereâs a reason we moved here besides just the cost of living. This mansion we live in also comes with little to no corruption and a different system of how universities work compared to the West,â Son reminded her, âRemember what people said about this place? No longer would we have to spend hundreds of thousands for the boys to enter college- itâs all based on your grades. Get good grades, get into college. And your chances wouldnât get thwarted just because they need diversity-â
Just then, a boy the age of 13 walked into the room. He had a bit of face fat and was a bit chubby, but he still seemed to be outgrowing Tracy and Son in height. He had Tracyâs brown eyes.
âUncle?â
Son turned to the boy.
âIâm kind of in the middle of something Franklin,â Son said with a tinge of annoyance.
âItâs important. Trust me. It might give a lead onâŠâ
Son groaned and got up from his seat, his knees stiff. He walked downstairs to the living room, and Tracy followed. There, the TV was on, and the President of the United Republic of Democracies himself was standing there in his suit with his five secret agents by his side.
Each secret agent had their own respective color for their suit. Franklin thought they looked like the Power Rangers when they first moved to the URD⊠but nowadays there was no more time for joking around.
âDear citizens of the United Republic, I come to inform you of something absolutely tragic,â the President announced with a booming voice, âThe seniors of Terran High, who were just about to graduateâŠâ
âHave mysteriously disappeared approximately a week ago.â
Son narrowed his eyes.
The picture shifted to a picture of the night sky.
âAfter reports from the National Space Institution, they detected a new star that has appeared in the night sky, one that fades colors of green, blue, and then red at a time. Itâs none weâve ever seen before, so using our telescopeâŠâ
The picture shifted again to a strange island, but there was something different about this island⊠a few miles off the sea the sea was immediately cut off by a mysterious barrier. A forcefield, even. Hovering over the island were three giant, metal towers, each one glowing red, blue, and green. Connected to the bottom of the strange island was a strange, unknown metal that connected to an overarching station. It was out of this world, literally!
Sonâs eyes widened.
âWait, thatâs-â
The President continued to speak.
âWe arenât too sure what this is, but it seems to be the most likely place the scholars were transported. Itâs almost like a lifeboat of sorts. We donât know why theyâre there, but weâre looking into it, rest assured.â
The President continued to speak, but Son couldnât concentrate. That island in the skyâŠ
âDonât you see now Uncle?â Franklin said, âItâs just like that game we played.â
âThe one us three used to play all the time,â Son said.
Tracy looked confused.
âWhat?!â
âThat game with the dinosaurs,â Franklin reminded Tracy, âRemember that Mom? We used to talk about it all the time!â
âIf it leads to my son, then thatâs all that matters.â
Just then, a ding came from Sonâs phone. He pulled his phone out of his pocket, and saw a notification on that platform for the game they played. He opened the app up and saw an urgent message.
It was from a man called Warren, and he was a deputy sheriff of the Star City area.
And he too, suffered the same loss as Son.
âWhatâs wrong, Uncle?â Franklin asked. Son smiled.
âI think I have the lead we need to find our missing boy,â Son grinned excitedly. He pocketed his phone, grabbed his car keys, and began to make his way out to the front door-
âHey where are you going?â Tracy asked with crossed arms. Franklin stood by her side. Son turned back.
âJust making a trip to the police station. Seems to me a sheriffâs also suffering the same problem as we are. Iâll have a talk with him, team up, and weâre going to find our loved ones together.â
Franklin ran forward, and clutched onto Son.
âWait, bring me with you, I can help!â
Son ruffled Franklinâs hair, and gently took his arms off him.
âSorry kiddo, this is a grown-ups only trip. Iâm not letting you go with me.â
âBut I can-â Franklin paused, struggling to find his words, âI can help! I know I can, Iâve saved my brother before, he knows!â
Son chuckled a bit.
âIn ARK, yes, but not in the real world. Just let me handle it, okay?â
Son opened the front door up, and walked out, closing the door behind him. Their dog began to run up to the front door, whining sadly. The French Bulldog sat down, staring at the door sadly.
âItâs okay, Franklin,â Tracy reassured her son. She put a hand on his shoulder, âThe grown ups will figure it out themselves. Now go to bed. Itâs getting late, and I want you to get some rest. You have a long summer break ahead.â
Franklin frowned, and hurried upstairs to the bathroom to brush his teeth.
Franklin locked the bathroom door, staring at the reflection in his mirror. He stared at himself for a moment, before looking down at the palm of his hand.
âI really wouldnât have minded saving my brother one last time,â Franklin thought, âIt would have been nice going on another adventureâŠâ
Teal blue sparks shot out of his fingertips, but then died down.
âBut I have luck on my side,â Franklin whispered, âAnd so heâll be fine.â
For a second, Franklin could see him and his cousins, and his big brother, in the reflection of the mirror, each one standing side by side and smiling. They didnât know their days together would be numbered at the time. Only his brother knew.
It was the same as how his brother didnât know of the things theyâd gone through together.
Franklin smiled at the memory. Then, he took his toothbrush and began to brush his teeth, the reflection of his family fading away from his sight.p

Chapter six: Swimming, swimming, on and on.
Jack nodded lunged deep into the cold water. All around him coelacanths and megapirranhas were swimming and way beneath him were plesiosaurs, mosaurus, and other dangerous sea creatures. Jack broke through the surface of the water, breathing hard. He had to swim to another shore unless he wanted to end il back in prison. There were no islands nearby. So he had to swim. Jack took a deep breath and then began to swim. He swam for hours. Back paddling, front paddling, doggy paddling. He swam on and on and on and on through the icy waters. He had to dodge different sea creatures and more. He swam day and night with no rest. He had no food and only salty sea water to drink. It seemed to take years before he finally spotted shore and by then Jack was exhausted, famished and half dead. Suddenly something attacked Jack from below. A bright blue jellyfish! A Cnidaria! It stung him several times on the chest. He didnât have a weapon so he just kicked it. It was stunned for a second that he dared attack it. Then it swam after him, hissing all the way. Megaldons nipped at his heels. Jack swam with all his might. Finally he came to the shore. Jack crawled unto it and collapsed into the dry sand. There was a well nearby on the edge of a large forest. He could not move. He was gonna die. He couldnât get up. Gonna black out. Just before he did he heard someone singing in a clear sweet voice:
âLavenderâs blue dilly dilly, lavenderâs green. When you are king, dilly, dilly I will be queen. Who told you so dilly dilly, who told you so-â The singer paused and Jack heard her gasp and the he heard footsteps running toward him. Just before he blacked out he saw a woman with long hair leaning over him. Then everything went black.

Ultimus Chapter 16: Vengeance
Andrew walked into the kitchen and grabbed any cooked meat that he had left in the fridge. He exited the kitchen went down the hallway to the front and grabbed a military backpack, his goggles, and bandanna as he walked out the door and went behind the house. He stuffed all the meat that he grabbed inside the bag as he walked around the house to the back.
Nothing mattered to him anymore except to avenge Reuben. And wouldnât come back until the deed was done. He walked towards the shed, opened the door, and walked inside. He quickly went to the two containers of his parents and opened them up. In both were an array of weapons from his time. Everything Tek, from swords and knives to rifles and pistols to things he wasnât sure what they were. He picked up one of two bracelets from his momâs container and found it had a button on it. He put on the bracelet and pressed the button. Immediately a guard began forming around his wrist and lower hand, a blade shot out ahead of his hand. Andrew was amazed by this, it felt like it was pulsing through to his bones while activated. It felt energizing and powerful. But he deactivated it and put it back with the other.
While it felt good, that he wouldnât be able to wear his gauntlets while using them, it honestly felt like a bad design choice for a military weapon. He looked through his motherâs container again only to see more medical supplies and equipment, she really only had a shoulder cannon and the knife hands.
He turned his attention to his dadâs container immediately seeing what he wanted, he pulled out a Tek bow and activated it. It immediately expanded out into the shape of a bow and a glowing string appeared from the bow and attached itself to the other side. It glowed an ominous cyan. Andrew adjusted his thumb and hit something by accident. A small holographic choice wheel appeared with four selections on it. Having regular arrows, combustible arrows, explosive arrows, and narcotic gas arrows. Andrew pressed the combustible arrow choice and the string color changed from cyan to orange. And the bow became a comfortable warm in his hand. He switched it back to the regular and it went back to normal. He deactivated it but kept it in his hand. This was something he was going to keep. He then looked at a knife in his dadâs container. At the moment, the blade was not there and it was only the handle sitting there. He grabbed and activated it and slowly an element blade began appearing out of the handle and forming into a military knife. He admired the translucent blade for a moment before deactivating it.
He took a look one last time to see if he could possibly need anything else from inside either container. He then grabbed a Tek canteen and Tek Binoculars from his momâs container before closing it up.
He looked back at his dadâs container, and for a moment he stared at his dadâs helmet, where the call sign was. He had on the side of that helmet, Turok. For years he wondered what it meant, but never found anything in the books that he read. But to be honest, it wasnât as important to him as it was years ago. Many of the mysteries behind his parents were never going to get answered. The only one that he wanted answered was why. Why do this to him and never wake him up? Itâs haunted him for years and heâs never gotten a good answer that made sense. But that was an answer he would have to find some other time.
He walked out of the shed with the stuff and began packing it inside the bag with the meat he had packed before. He checked the canteen to see how much water it would take to be filled up but to his surprise. It was already full. He took a sip and the water was perfectly fine and clean. Nothing wrong with it, he packed it in the pack with the weapons and headed off towards the teleporter. It was time for his pain to be vanquished.
~
Three days and nights passed as Andrew wandered through the wastelands surrounding Sanctuary. He thought this wouldnât take this long, so he followed the blood trail outside of the building. But the trail disappeared after a mile or so with no body or pool of blood nearby. He continued searching, but with each passing day, his anger for this beast grew and so did the pain of losing his friend. He felt guilt for everything that happened. It was his and the raptorâs fault. Killing the raptor in Reubenâs name would remove his guilt and suffering. But his anger kept building as he searched the raptor packs as he went along. Using his binoculars to spot them. But hadnât yet found the raptors that killed Reuben. He wandered westward and stumbled into a sulfur field. The place was incredibly hot, hotter than anywhere he had been and the air didnât smell all too good.
He was about to desert the place quickly but he saw a pack of five raptors inside and decided to spot them. Andrew couldnât believe his eyes when he saw a Raptor with a recent injury and a stubbed tail. He dropped the binoculars and quickly took off the backpack and dropped it to the ground. He opened it up, grabbed the bow, and activated it. With it expanding out and a cyan-blue string appearing. He was about two hundred yards away from the pack, a difficult shot with what weapon he had. But it was doable. Andrew drew his bow and a bolt of pure energy appeared on the arrow rest. As he did, auto-target activated and locked onto the head of the animal. Andrew pressed a button on the grip and the auto lock turned off. He aimed the bow for the creatureâs ankles, he wanted it to see his face before it died. He waited for the right moment making some noise to catch its attention, the raptor stopped and looked for where the sound was. And Andrew took his shot. the bolt flew at impressive speed and hit the animal in the ankle, completely snapping it. The animal started screeching and howling in pain as the other four ran off in different directions. Andrew waited for a moment, he watched the animal struggle as it tried to get back on its feet only for it to collapse over again. Andrew watched this happen several times before having a good sense that it was clear for him to finish it off.
He walked down towards the creature as it screeched and clawed at the ground trying to get up. As he walked into its sight though. The creature hissed and snarled, its eyes filled with unnatural fury and anger as Andrew got close to it, knowing who he was and what he was there for. Andrew drew the bow and shot it in the hips, debilitating it from moving its legs. His anger built up as he activated his knife and got close to it, cutting off its arms. He continued with his anger and vengeance, thrusting the knife into the beastâs chest and gutting the creature, the creature hissed and screeched even more. Andrew dropped the knife, pulled out his bow, and aimed it at the raptorâs head. But he paused and stared at the creature. The creatureâs snarls and screeches began heaves and low-tone growls, its eyes were different than before and telling a different story. A story of pain and suffering, one of confusion and despair. Its eyes looked at Andrew before closing, preparing for its death and almost being at ease with it. But Andrew couldnât do it, his anger turned to himself. He became a monster through his anger and pain. He stumbled back after realizing what he had done through his anger, breathing heavily.
âWhat have I doneâŠâ He said aloud.
Suddenly the creature began to lunge at him. Its eyes glowed magenta and were full of fury, and the beast snarled and began snapping at him. Andrew didnât think and fear and instincts took over. He drew the bow and released the string. The bolt of energy flew straight into the head of the raptor and it dropped dead. Its head was fried and smoke came from the head. Andrew dropped to the ground and sat there, his emotions being pulled in every direction at the same time. He didnât know what to think with all that was happening, but mostly guilt and pain hit him the hardest out of these emotions. He began hearing the echoing calls of the other raptors, their calls getting closer with each minute. Andrew quickly realized what was going on and got up as he tried to escape. Only to find himself surrounded by four raptors, all of them beginning to circle calculating an attack.
Andrew drew his bow and fired his first shot, dropping the first one. Two of the others came in charging and Andrew sifted three bolts at one of them, dropping it on the third. The third raptor came in fast and Andrew drew the bow fast and fired a shot straight at the creatureâs head. Dropping it three feet away from him. Andrew quickly looked around in front of him for the fourth.
As he did, a powerful hit came from behind him, launching him into the ground face-first. He flipped over onto his back only to see a raptor a few feet away from him. He tried to scuttle back, but the raptor lunged at him. Andrew thrusted his bow in front of him with both hands on it to block the raptor from getting to his face and both got into a stalemate. Andrew held the bow to its neck and its arms as the head of the beast was only a foot away from his head. Andrew let out a yell out of instinct, releasing his anger, pain, and fury all out. Andrew could feel the raptorâs foot push down on his chest and heard the claw try to pierce the armor but was too weak to pierce it. He tried to adjust one of his hands towards the string but the animal felt its tension ease and tried to push downward, Andrew tried and succeeded at regaining a grip on the bow with his other hand. Leaving the distance between their faces only a few inches apart. Andrew could feel the hot, disgusting breath and saliva of the creature fall on his face. His strength began to fail him and the creature kept moving in centimeter by centimeter.
Andrew felt like a failure to his friend even more. All he wanted was to make something right for his friend but he failed at that. Tears began rolling down his face.
âI donât deserve to be alive, I shouldâve been the one to die there, Reuben. All Iâve done since is cause pain. Forgive me for what Iâve done.â He thought, he looked at the raptor above him. Its eyeâs magenta, it almost looked like it had a smile across its face as it knew it was winning. Andrew screamed out just in anger at himself. And slowly letting the bow come down towards his face. With the creature snapping more vigorously with each centimeter passing. The creature jerked its head up as was about to try to force the arms down faster.
Then Andrew heard a loud thud and the raptor above him jerked, squealed, and screeched in pain. It turned around away from Andrew and started hissing and snarling at something there. Andrew scuttled back and saw a Battle Axe sticking out of the back of the raptor. He watched as the beast charged at whatever it was, and then another thud, and the creature reared up and howled in pain. Then a sudden halt in the howl as Andrew watched the head and neck slide off the body and both fell to the ground with something standing over it with an axe in itâs hand.
A human, a woman with blonde hair wearing fur armor and desert-built pants. She bent over grabbing the battle axe from the back of the creature and slipping it into a loop hanging from a belt. She looked over at Andrew and smiled with a kind face.
âJeg hĂžrte noen rop fra andre siden av dalen og fulgte etter den. Det sĂ„ virkelig ut som du trengte en hĂ„nd. Paul, Erica! Kom raskt, jeg har funnet noen! Navnet er Freya, hva er ditt?â The woman said to Andrew, but he couldnât understand it. Andrewâs eyes widened with fear. He knew his mind was already on the verge of losing it, but he didnât think it was this close
âThis canât be real, itâs just impossible. Iâve looked everywhere across Sanctuary and the surrounding area for years and never found anyone. Am I dead? Is this some sort of torment or alien encounter?â He thought to himself. The woman saw that he was in distress.
âHei, gĂ„r det bra med deg? Paul, Erica! Jeg trenger hjelp her! Det er, greit at vi skal hjelpe deg uansett hva du trenger!â The woman said, he couldnât understand her still. She started getting closer to Andrew. Andrewâs eyes widened even more and he stood up immediately and aimed his bow for her. She lowered her axe and raised her hands in the air. She tried to say something but Andrew cut her off.
âWho are you, what are you!â He said scared, he was trembling from everything that happened and was going on. She said something but again he couldnât understand.
âI donât understand, I donât understand what youâre saying. WHAT ARE YOU?â He shouted with a trembling voice.

Chapter 51: Hardcore Reader
Part 3/3
âYouâre not even asking important questions, youâre just putting our host down!â Sam scolded him.
âYou know itâs against the law to hit someoneâŠâ
âItâs not illegal if they deserve it.â
âI donât deserve it!â
Sam shut her eyes and turned to Calem.
âIâm sorry about what youâre going through, Calem, donât worry, youâre not alone in this,â Sam reassured him, âWe two are questioning you for the exact same reason. Our son was also caught up in this mess, and we just-â
Calem looked up and his face brightened. He pointed a finger at them and began to laugh.
âBA HA HA HA! I knew it, I knew you two were just an old grumpy couple!â
Sam sneered at Calem. Calem immediately stopped laughing, putting his finger down.
âSorry. Um, why donât you ask the next question?â
` âOkay, okay, has your little brother, Rick, been able to communicate with you at all after the disappearances?â
Calem shook his head.
âNope. He wouldnât have been able to, anyway. When I graduated, they made us put on these graduation robes. Even though they had pockets for SOME reason, they made us put our phones in lockers. Soooo, no. He has not been able to reach out to us.â
âDamn, I was thinking we could track them,â Sam cursed. Warrenâs face lit up, an idea sprouting in his mind.
âWait, we might be able to,â Warren thought, âThereâs no way that ALL of them left their phones in their locker. At least one had to have taken their phone with them.â
Warren turned to Sam.
âSam, is the crime scene still up?â
âHuh? Yeah, but donât bother getting your hopes up. Youâre just a sheriff. Iâm not letting you in.â
âI guess Iâll go there next.â
Suddenly, the walkie-talkie that was clipped to Samâs tank top began to buzz.
âUnit 6 do you copy? Weâve got reports of an assault downtown at the bar, I think you should go there and neutralize the situation now!â
Sam pressed a button on her walkie-talkie and barked back.
âAnd so what?! Iâm in the middle of something!â
âEveryone else is still investigating Terran High! You are the closest unit to the bar, so YOU have to go. Thatâs an order!â
The walkie-talkie stopped crackling and Sam groaned. She got up from her seat and began to leave.
âGotta go.â
Warren jumped up from his seat and began to run after her.
âWait, let me come!â
Sam turned around with vigor on her face.
âNo. Youâre not. Youâre just a sheriff.â
âDoesnât matter, I wonât let you get-â Warren quickly cut his sentence off, trying to find the correct thing to say, âI wonât stand by and let innocent people get hurt. My last name isnât Justice for no reason.â
Sam rolled her eyes.
âYouâre so cheesy, ugh, fine, you can come. But donât expect to ride shotgun, youâre going in the back. Like a prisoner, nyah hah hah!â
Sam laughed like a villain. and pranced out the door. Warren turned to Calem, and put a hand on his shoulder. He reached into his pocket and pulled his phone out, showing a contact list to Calem.
âPut your number here so we can talk later. I think we can figure out a lot if we work together.â
Calem looked up and smiled. He reached up and tapped his number on the dial.
âHeh, youâre right. You and that blonde lady are a funny duo, you two probably love each other more than you let on,â Calem snickered. Warren felt his other hand go numb.
âSure,â he said woodenly. Calem finished typing, and he leaned back in his rocking chair.
âWell, good luck with whatever crime you gotta stop. Guess you two arenât bums after all.â
âThanks. See you soon, I sâpose.â
Warren walked out the door, and Calem peeked out the blinds of the window to see Warren clamber into the passenger seat of the police cruiser. Sam shoved him out, slamming the front door and locking it shut. The police cruiser began to drive off, and Warren put his arm out in dismay. Warren rushed into his own car and began to drive off after her.
Calem smiled, looking at the bookshelf which held his collection of stories. One book was noticeably gone from its spot.
âWhere could you be, Rick? Where could you beâŠâ
Completely forgot this exists. That is all
To the guy who asked were to find them on mobile- I know I know.. but a gotta say it.. in the ocean đ
Seriously though, they are just rarer than a giga, so it may take a wile to find.
Where do you find one of those things Ark: Mobile?!

Part 2/3
Sam suddenly interjected and put her hand over Warrenâs mouth.
âDonât listen to this bum, heâs just an old fart whose bones are so brittle theyâre fit to break,â Sam sneered. Warren pulled Samâs hand off his mouth and continued to banter. Somewhere within that argument, both Warren and Sam managed to reveal why they were there. The man sighed and rubbed his face.
âRickâs gone and now this happens⊠Whatever. Iâm not taking sides here, so either you both come in to interrogate me, or no one will. Man you two sound like a grumpy old couple who hate each other,â the man said. Sam began to glare, scoffing at what he had to say, and Warren looked gloomy after what he said.
âPsh, just remove the grumpy old couple part and youâd be 100% accurate,â Sam said with hatred in her voice. Warren shuffled uncomfortably.
âIs that really how you feel about me?â Warren thought solemnly.
The man rolled his eyes, tapping his slipper impatiently on the sidewalk.
âOkay, are you going to question me, or am I going to have to shoo you away?â
âIâm not even going to bother. Just donât question any of us,â Sam blurted, making her way back to her car. Warren leaned forward and quickly grabbed onto Samâs hand.
âWait⊠Sam,â Warren said. Sam turned around and looked at Warren with wide eyes, then at her hand.
âI know we hate each other, but⊠letâs just do this for our son, okay?â Warren pleaded. Sam frowned a bit, looking into Warrenâs eyes. Warren could feel his heart thump.
âFine. Okay, letâs go.â
The man smirked.
âWell, they say those old grumpy couples always make up to each other.â
âShut up.â
The man walked up to the front door and went inside his home. Warren and Sam followed closely behind. Upon entering they were greeted with the fresh smell of papers. Warren looked to the left to see gigantic shelves that were absolutely packed with all sorts of books, from non-fiction, to fiction, from action to slice of life, from romance to fantasy, it was there.
âI guess he really is a hardcore reader,â Warren thought. As Warrenâs eyes scanned the bookshelf, one caught his eye⊠The Obelisk. He could spot the authorâs name on the spine: Moon.
âThatâs the person I saw messaging on the Dex,â Warren realized with wide eyes.
The man cleared his throat and sat down on a rocking chair. Both Warren and Sam took a seat on the living room couch. There was a glass coffee table in front of Warren and Sam. Warren was staring at his reflection in the glass.
âI think we should introduce ourselves properly,â the man said, âIâm Calem.â
âWarren.â
âSam,â Sam said matter-of-factly, âOkay I want to go first.â
âNo, I will,â Warren argued, âI was the one who convinced you to stay.â
âThat doesnât mean jack, Warren! Iâm the only reason we can even interrogate him right now!â
The two began bickering again, and Calem slammed his foot on the hardwood floor in anger. The two turned to him in fear.
âShut up, your arguments drive me mad! Just rock paper scissors and the winner goes first!â
Sam and Warren turn to each other again, putting their hands out to play. The two squint their eyes at each other.
âRock, paper, scissors, shoot!â
Warren played rock, and Sam played scissors. Sam groaned.
âBest of 3.â
âNope. Warren, youâre first.â
Warren turned to Calem and cleared his throat. He felt his face getting hot as Sam stared at him impatiently.
âSo, um, do you know anyone related to the, uh, incident?â
Calemâs face dropped, and he looked at his feet with a frown and dull eyes.
âI do. My little brother Rick⊠I care about him a lot, you know. I was best buds with him. He became a hardcore reader just like me,â Calem said. He looked up at the chandelier, reminiscing, âOh the days weâd get together under the big treeâs shade and read a good story⊠Good times.â
Warren looks up at Calem. He looked so sad.
âPoor dude,â Warren thought. He looked up at a picture frame on the wall. It was a picture of Calem and a boy who looked a little younger than him, and he also had blonde hair. That was probably Rick.
Sam suddenly slaps Warren.
SLAP!
âOW. What the heck?!â Warren barked.
