Tips & Strategies

What are tips for karkinos? Tips and strategies for karkinos in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
If you're taming and its health is low, put a corpse beside it. That should do the trick to heal it
If you want to kill one use a Dino or a crossbow. Don't use guns because it Tales less damage from them! Thank me later!
Net projectile works on these, so craft your catapult and boulders, find your crab and net it. Proceed to set up the catapult a few feet from its face and you can easily just fire all required shots before the net expires. You’re welcome!
No one seems to have mentioned that karkinos can use tools, they just need a special type of tool: doedicurus, use a karkinos to pick up a tamed armadillo and walk around to rocks and the armadillo hits the rocks and keeps them stored, argies and quetz can do it to but they can only hold one and they don't spawn on abberation, not sure but if you transfer a beaver to abberation you might be able to use it and an armadillo at the same time to gather both rock and wood
I know they’re crabs but my arachnophobia says otherwise
Cannons do not lower efficiency, one hit knock out, catapults are broken on ASA.
So, I don't know how much this will help others, but personally a cart with a cannon on top did wonders for taming this oversized crab. If you line it up right you can do it in one hit. Hope this helps someone!
Available at floating island caves in Crystal Isles.
They're very rare in there so be patient
ASA: Catapult dont works in offical Servers. User a Canon and shoot at the Back. Build a Trap and good luck.
DO NOT USE A CANNON!! If you use a cannon the taming efficiency will drop all the way down to 58%. Use a catapult and shoot its back, don't waste resources on cannon or cannonballs
(Pest cleaning): Grabbed wild/enemy creatures , as far i have seen, will take damage 2 two times (the second a bit weaker) so, It is actually very good at pest control, and i say the big ones, raptors, thylas, sabers and more, and you can even throw them away, works well with the cat using the pest control for the smol.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Baby sitter): Considering the karkinos can grab 2 creatures a time, jump and throw them, It passes the job apply for baby sitter perfeclty, pair with maewing/guana and gigantoraptor, the nannies will raise a baby with great performance.(Also, If you are a modder and see this, we need a maid/ baby sitter costume for karkinos NOW, It would be funny by a lot)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Wild baby claim assister): It can grab wild babies, so, you can dismount then walk in the arm the claim It, no baby running.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Tame/Farmer Assist/Carrier): Nah, i don't even need to say It, it's intuitive, terrestrial argy/rhynio go BRRRR!
Made by Vinícius, also, if possible, i would appreciate an green arrow pointing to the sky!
People were commenting boulders are better than cannons for taming these so I just assumed they meant rock golems. Kind of went out of my way to tame one. Doesn't seem to work for this but eh, I got a golem now. Lol
Knock theme out by firing boulders at their body. Each successful hit adds 250 torpor.
An all around amazing tame with a variety of uses. Hunt trilobites for oil. Carry armadillos for farming stone and clearing paths. Delicately plucking dinos off an elevator. Exploring. Farming gems from rats. The list goes on and on, just be creative. Its almost OP but it is hard to tame. Not only do you need a catapult but you also need to score only body shots and even then pray that its strong enough to survive the hits. It's tanky, uses surprisingly very little stamina, has a good attack even without the grab, well worth the trouble.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE A CATAPULT.
I knocked a 145 in the cave on Ragnarok. It takes only 1 cannon ball and it has to be a shot from behind. No Limbs. Writing as of
8/2/25.
