Taming & KO Tips

How do I tame a kaprosuchus? Tips and strategies on taming and knocking out a kaprosuchus.
Tame a large dinosaur (I used a yuty, I'm not sure if kapros can knock you off a large mount so be weary of this, but a kapro has yet to knock me off of my yuty and I've tamed 3 of them so far) and tame a dilophosaur to use as bait. Make sure both are set to passive. Once you see a kapro and you're in aggro range, hop off your yuty for a sec then hop back on. The kapro should be aggroed onto you but will attack your mount trying to get to you. Move around a bit and the kapro will eventually change targets to the dilo. Once it's got the dilo in it's jaws, you can get off your yuty and shoot it with tranq darts and bam, you got yourself a new dino
You can shoot tranqs at it from the back of a tall creature and it won’t be able to jump at you, but make sure your creature has high health since the kaprosuchus bite attack decreases stamina and you won’t be able to run away,
When taming, use one person as bait, the Kapro will charge at the person, and then you both pin thanks in it. My friend and I got 4 from this strategy
To tame this thing, just Continuously punch it on the nose when it has grabbed you, then feed it any excess meat you have in your inventory.
P.s. these are awesome for guarding your base from troodons and dilos.
If you ride a stego in the swamp, you won’t get caught by the kapro(they just sorta slam and bite the stego instead), so long as you bring some tranq arrows in a crossbow, you can tame one easily(many swamp creatures drop prime meat). Just make sure you use a combo of passive, neutral, and knock back to escort back(I play mobile, but picking one up can also work).
Bolas work on these thick boys. Trust me
Great base guards. 10 150 perfect tames of these will kill Rexs super quick.
They eat at 120food not 80food timers are off.
All you need to do is find the kapro you want, jump in its mouth, and tranq or club it. Took me 8 tranqs from a crossbow to knock a level 130.
Really easy for me might work for you i don’t know if I got lucky
Ight so you wanna kapro good idea but after many attempts you give up well all you need is your pet flippy (lystro) and just throw it towards him he get jumped but doseint die now the kapro is spinning and you lystro is not takeing damage all you need to do now is time you tranq arrows not hitting lystro and boom soon it’s out
This worked for me but it was a wild lystro now I own a high level since it was a wild 193
These will jump at you without question I encountered one in scorched earth and died to one of these just because I wanted some water
How to tame shoot tranq arrows in his face than if you go on creative give it a saddle and keep pressing jump while riding the kapro you fly while riding him it's so funny.
You can actually pick these guys up with an argy. Up this so more ppl see it👍
These guys are the perfect tame all you need is prime meat no narcotics or if u need some and starve tame it
Whoever said “we hate to inform you, they don’t come in purple,” is so wrong. And they are NOT killers if you do this:
Stand on a high rock. They cannot climb. Shoot with Trang arrows. They are my favorite Dino on this game. They speak too.
I was in the south zone 2 and I was catching fish then out of the blue a kapro pounced on me I was punching it when I gave it a powerful punch it in the mouth(I was in the mouth )it finally fainted I wanted to kill it but I had fish meat and no pets active. Then I wanted to tame it .I gave it all of my meat and it was tamed.
BOLAS DO WORK ON MOBILE I JUST USED IT WHILE GETTING JUMPED BY FOUR OF THEM
Need one? Say no more, shoot with knockout arrows, bring atleast 50 because they live in a place with alot of other creatures, step two, lure away from swamp so it doesn't get killed by a sarco or piranhas ,step three put in meat and protect with life.
Be super careful I was coming back to my base with one of these picked up and he ripped me off my bird and I lost my best stuff and bird
Seen many a tip on how to tame a low level kapro, so here's a definitive, in-depth guide on taming your very own high level bayou death-machine. Plus some other useful tidbits.
Process below should work for all the maps they spawn in. Saddle engram unlocked at player lvl 39
First, materials.
- You will need a spyglass for scouting out higher levels. You could go without it, but flying up to groups of kapros to check their levels is just needlessly risky and terrifying. Sarcos may jump but they don't even come close to jumping like these do. Spare yourself the heart attack. Make the spyglass.
- Longneck rifle and tranq darts or a crossbow and tranq arrows. Primitive/engram grade will work but higher qualities obtained from supply crates, caves, and killing alphas work way better for knockouts. Quicker KO, and less ammo spent. But, as always bring extra supplies just to be safe.
- Sidearm like a sword, pike, shotgun, etc. to clean up or fend off the immediate area's other aggressive nasties once your kapro is down so you can tame in peace.
- Five or more spike walls for a quick safety barrier to wait out the taming process in.
When wild they don't seem to have any natural predators. If so they have very, very few. So the barrier is for player peace of mind more than anything else.
- And lastly, taming food. Regular kibble, and/or raw mutton works best. Or Tapejara kibble, and/or raw prime meat if you're on mobile.
Scout out your beefy kapro of choice and (important) *aggro them from a distance while standing on a tall rock or steep terrain. The steeper the better.
||**I do not recommend going hand to hand with high level leaping-swamp-dogs. Surefire way to lose your hard earned gear and weaker tames coming to your aid or just by-standing the crime scene too closely.
They shred even good armor and dish out disrespectful amounts of damage with their lunge attacks. Especially they're grouped up. Stay up high, park dinos responsibly, and stay safe.||
Pepper 'em as they snap at you in frustration below your perch with tranqs until they fall into torpor. With higher grade weapons this should only take a few shots. Especially if the shots hit their noggin. Their torpor drain is quite slow so no need to worry about them waking up before being tamed. Both wild and tamed Kapros don't have an Oxygen bar so no worries about them drowning either.
Assemble your spike wall barrier around them, pop your taming food into their inventory, and you're set.
Kapros make for amazing mounts and companions.
Especially on higher game difficulties.
And can be leveled into particularly vicious, loyal swamp terrors that easily rival dire wolves, fling themselves through the air at mach 6, and inflict stamina-sapping poison on whatever they hit with their lunge. Put levels into hp, a little stam 'n weight, and most importantly, melee. Spamming lunge effectively obliterates almost everything.
I highly recommend getting a breeding pair and breeding yourself an army. Their quick growth rates, ease of husbandry, and compact size make them perfect for those just getting into breeding lines or for the seasoned expert.
These chaotic little buggers only get better with mutations and imprint bonuses. Overall a fast, fun, and very rewarding creature to work with. Swamp dog is a 10/10. -Bog
