I found 2 near the redwood river. The most dangerous thing is other dinos, be extremely careful even when you are looking. My setup is a quetz with a platform and a thyla and I pick up the equus and take it to a safer spot, clear other dinos and tame. My problem is that my stupid quetz glitches and threw me off and I lost the higher level horse, then the lower level one was killed by a carno. I was looking for more when a lvl 50 alpha rex ambushed us and it KILLED MY LVL 150 QUETZ. Dick move if ever I saw one. Me and my thyla got revenge but nothing can replace the hours of searching and tranq farting put into that quetz.
More Equus Encountering Tips
If your on mobile and can’t find one of these guys start the tame equus pursuit and walk or fly around the island and eventually a arrow will show up on the top left of your screen. If you follow that then you will find an equus or two. Upvoote if you found this helpful.
When taming the equus on Xbox One, when it says to use the E button, you must press Y for it to feed when it bucks.

Put this higher !!So if you play mobile I found 3 in the same spot okay so first do the volcano pursuit the one where it's the cave inside the pursuit should be south of the equator and in that general area if you look around you'll find them

If hard to find on The Island, a herd seem to spawn near the red obelisk, green obelisk and the black sand area off the river next to the redwoods, I killed a bunch of low levels for some easy pelt and I came back after 10-15 minutes, after I found a 145 Equus. Hopefully you found this helpful.
When Equus hunting, ALWAYS go to the southern haven. Since there aren't any predators there, you have nothing to worry about. While you're there, it's great for metal runs. And if the Equus there are too low leveled, simply kill them, leave, wait for more to spawn, and hope for a higher level.
They spawn more at redwood forest with Rexs, Raptors and carnos around....do they even know fear?
