NOTE: This creature doesn't eat feces. It only converts the feces into fertilizer. Raw Meat will also need to be put into its inventory but it's hunger drops very slowly.

Place poop in their inventory, it will give you fertilizer and oil. Make a small pen then place them inside. Then put the worry of oil and fertilizer away.

Put them in a wooden cage, and enable wandering. Then use a phiomia, and force feed him stimberries for him to literally unload his feces everywhere, and you use that in the dung beetle to get fertilizer.

These things are insane in ark Asa, I had a level 25+ and overnight on a base ark server it made 130 fertilizer.

Really good tame for farms if you pair it with a phiomia

With ASA it now automatically pick up poop. Its like the oviraptor but for poop.

who needs a composter when you have these guys!! had one of these guys in my tek para farm, gave him all the poop i could find and i had more fertilizer than i ever needed!! and the extra oil was great for making gas, 10/10 bug

On Abberation you can set them on wandering and have a karkinos hold them and it still turns poop into fertilizer.

It’s a small tip but it might help some :)

For Ark Mobile: When filling their inventory with poop, temporarily put a weight collar on them. You’ll be able to fill them up with more poop than usual. When you’re done, make sure to take the collar off. The beetle will still be able to make fertilizer and oil even though they are encumbered.

Since ark ascended they now pick up the feces themselves. The range is actually ridiculous AND it won’t stop picking up feces even if it’s past its max weight. My dung beetle is 60/8 overencumbered and he still keeps picking up feces from all my tames without moving. Don’t even bother setting up a cage, the range for picking up feces is so broken they will overencumber themselves and stop moving in no time. And they’ll still pick up.

The little QoL turned this guy from a neat early game source of oil and slightly better bin for fertilizer into an actual 0 maintenance oil pump

Their food of choice is Spoiled Meat like if this helps so others know.

The best method for the dung beetles productivity and keeping them out of the way…

When building your Dino garage make a lower level (only one wall high) underneath your Dino pen and use it as a dung beetle pen, (I keep my dodos down there with them too)

This way when you sent them to wandering they will have access to all the dino poo and keep your pen clean but not get in the way. No escaping. (make sure to close the door when going in and out)

Only level up weight. And when they fill up with fertilizer, either use it or drop it all after collecting the oil. The oil production slows down when they are holding too much fertilizer.

I have 4 beetles under my Dino pen and every day I’m getting about 600+ oil

DO NOT UPGRADE WEIGHT!!! they will keep collecting past their weight just keep them in a cage.

Crop boxes are stackable on top each other on ASA. I put this tip here as these guys go with crops. I stacked 5 medium crop boxes on top each other and they are all growing crops in each one. Small crop boxes are working also. Haven’t tested large yet. I’m assuming they work as well.

2x better than a compost bin, just put in poop and let it wander in a box and you will never need to use poop for crops or compost fertilizer ever again. also gives oil so its worth it. that is untill you realize it only spawns in caves.

If you didn’t know or you can’t figure out how to get fertilizer from one of these things here’s how to do it!

1 Tame one (you can find them in caves and The dunes)

2 create a small pen (don’t use foundations)

3 set them on wandering inside the pen

4 put poop in inventory

5 you’ll be getting fertilizer soon!

Only up weight for dem big poops.

They spawn in south lower cave and bring poop for faster tame. Upgrade the weight so they can carry more poop for fertilizers and oil. Force feed Phiomia stimberry so they will poop.
