Chapter nine

The next day, it was my turn to go hunt.

“Happy hunting,” Leo called down to my as I left.

Carter had given me a satchel to put mushrooms in for Berry. After I had filled the satchel up, I went looking for some prey. Eventually, I found a lone iguanadon in a clearing. I waited until it’s back was turned, then I leaped out at it. I landed firmly on its side, ripping and tearing its flesh. It let out an agonized bellow as blood gushed from its side. I climbed onto its back and started pulling apart its head. I jumped off as it hit the ground with a thud. I dragged it back to the den where Leo, Berry, and Carter were waiting.

“Sorry, it’s not much,” I said, dropping the carcass.

“Oh it’s plenty,” Leo said.

After we were finished eating, I walked over to my pile of leaves and curled up. But just as I was about to drift off, I heard a thunderous roar from outside.
