I first Tamed one of these lil guys on Scorched Earth. It was so much fun to glide around with. It was also great because I would get around quickly and use less energy. Even more so I would be out of reach of the 10000 sabres, wolves, cargos and thorny dragons. Best 10 mins of my ark life until a guy with his wyvern came and cooked us...

Held like a dodo, and not a shoulder mount, resulting it difficulty looking up.

Pressing the square button on PS4 stops them from flapping, press the button again to continue, timing the button presses properly will allow you to descend rapidly with no fall damage.

Acts as a more agile parachute at the cost of not being a shoulder mount.

These guys make great chibi/skin storages. They eat chitin, you won’t really need to worry about them starving if you fill their inventory with it. Using this as a parachute is okay however you can’t use any hand items,(weapons, spyglass, etc….) while holding the Archaeopteryx. They fall to slowly. You can cancel the glide while falling and can’t re-enter the glide later, that I’m aware of. They’re better to be cryopoded and used in caves as gliders if you want to safely jump over gaps.

Its an infinite parachute that doesnt weigh a lot you just have to feed it

They also eat chitin while tamed so get those Scorpions harvested using a metal hatchet

Have your flying bird on follow at all times, when you run out of energy in a bad spot on accident, jump of the bird and glide to a safe spot on your Archaeopteryx, then hop back on your bird!

SUPER USEFUL... ok maybe not if you fall off of something it will make you glide down the reason I said maybe not is because I jumped of my Pteradon by accident and took me 15 minutes to get back down

If you are constantly being chased I would recommend taming one. When I tamed mine I noticed I was faster. It is good for outrunning allos and other dinos- hope this helps :)

If you want maximum effect put everything into Stam to be the best parachute

The tip saying when your pteranodon gets tired glide on these near it so it regens stamina works, but I wouldn’t use it on a daily basis. One fail and you land next to a spino. It does work though!

These guys can act as a parachute but if you using them like that then you can't use anything else in your hot bar
