Chapter 33: The Obelisk
Part 5/5
The “fragment” suddenly began to beep, and Skyler let out a scream of fear, throwing it toward Rick. Rick shielded his face with his hands, embracing the inevitable, when Paige leapt forward and smashed the grenade with her club, causing it to fly a few feet away and up into the air. With one swift explosion, it enveloped the air with small shards of metal and flame, causing everyone to duck for cover. A soft ringing echoed within Samuel’s ears, as he struggled to regain his vision.
“Goodness gracious what was that for?!” Rick cried in anger.
“I’m- I’m really sorry-”
“Girl, you could’ve gotten Rick killed,” Paige spat.
“I didn’t know!”
“What are you talking about? That doesn't look like an obelisk fragment!”
Everyone began to slowly bicker with one another, and Samuel looked up at the sky, trying to find out where it came from, but there was nothing. All he could really spot was a Pteranodon that was speeding off. Could it have come from the obelisk?
“Maybe, maybe it did,” Samuel thought with grimness. He rubbed his ears, the ringing slowly going away. He glanced over at the forest again, and the red haze was gone. He let out a sigh of relief, the beating heart within his chest dying down…

Chapter 33: The Obelisk
Part 3/5
The trip to the Green Obelisk was very uneventful, surprisingly enough. Goofy very easily took care of any Raptors that attempted to attack them, and even the occasional Carnotaurus was dismissed as nothing more than a pest.
“Having these beasts is very important,” Samuel thought, “Clearly, they are the key to survival here. But will they be the key to escape?”
Samuel knew that they were only part of the equation. Making allies with others was just one variable. So was domesticating the dinosaurs here on this island. But where are there other variables?
“Maybe knowledge is one of them,” Samuel thought as he stared at Rick. He was squinting his eyes at his own book, flipping back and forth as if one of the pages were missing. He had a shard of flint in his hands. It looked like he was taking notes.
“I know Rick knows something the others don’t. Maybe I should talk to him some other time,” Samuel thought as he looked ahead. At this point the Green Obelisk was just a hundred more feet away or so. Soon they would finally arrive and see what all of the fuss was about.
Suddenly, someone bumped into Samuel. He looked to his right to see Aurora walking alongside him, and she was staring right at him.
“What’s wrong? You look like you’re deep in thought,” Aurora gently asked. Samuel turned away, annoyance striking his face.
“Nothing. Just thinking. About the next step,” Samuel replied.
“Okay, okay,” Aurora said, closing her eyes gently. Samuel couldn’t help but huff in annoyance. He didn’t know what to do with her. He knew that she probably liked him, but what would happen if he rejected her? Would things be the same? What could the consequences be? And what if she didn’t really like him?
“I’ll just wait, for now,” Samuel thought as the forest began to clear away.
And soon enough, the Obelisk was there, in all of its glory. Samuel had never seen it up close, but one thing he knew was it was pretty damn ominous. It was made out of some sort of metal, and a light green beam poured from the obelisk and down onto the ground. The Obelisk was like some floating, metal tower. The top of the tower eerily resembled the implants the others had, down to the last minute detail.
“This is definitely by design,” Samuel muttered, “It’s leading me to believe that this was all planned by somebody.”
Skyler pointed ahead at a metal platform that hung on an island beneath the beam of green light.
“Right over there. We have to get there. That’s where we’ll attain its power.”
Unfortunately, the island was surrounded by water, and there was only one pathway to get there. And that pathway was blocked by a giant, sleeping Brontosaurus. The gentle giant swung its tail back and forth gently. Everyone groaned at the sight.
“Ugh. Great. That fatty is blocking the way,” Paige scoffed, tapping her club against the grass.
“What are we gonna do now?” Neddy asked, looking around, “I mean. There’s gotta be another way, right?”
“We could jump the gap,” Ruby confidently claimed.
“No. We’re not doing that,” Paige snorted.
“We need to lead the Bronto out of here,” Sunny decided. Everyone turned to her.
“And how are we supposed to do that?”
Sunny hopped onto Stream’s back, tugging at the reins tightly.
“I’ll attack it, and it’ll move away that way.”
“What?!” Skyler burst out, “That is far too dangerous! There must be another solution!”
“It’s fine. That thing is big and slow. It’ll never catch up to me. Besides, I can lead it to the river. That’ll slow it down even more,” Sunny claimed, “Just, let’s just meet up later, kay? Back here at the Obelisk. It’ll be quick.”
Skyler let out a sigh, waving at Stream.
“Fine. Go for it… and good luck.”
Sunny grinned, tugged on the reins, and Stream was off. The group closely followed behind, and Stream was approaching the giant closer and closer. Rick was gritting his teeth, clenching his knife tightly.
“Hiyah!” Sunny cried out as Stream jumped forward and latched onto the Brontosaurus. Stream began to dig its claws into it and tore a chunk of its flesh off. The Brontosaurus’ tail moved around uncomfortably, whipping and snapping at the air. With a slam, it caused a chunk of the earth to fall into the abyss of water below the Obelisk.
KASPLASH!
A stream of water rose into the air, and the Brontosaurus slowly made its way up onto its feet. At this point Sunny and Stream were on the run. Sunny tugged on the reins once more, and Stream lunged away toward the riverbanks. The Brontosaurus’ neck moved around, and after spotting its attacker it slowly began to march away. Its steps caused the ground to tremor, and Samuel closed his ears at the sound. It was almost as if earthquakes were shaking the island.

Chapter 33: The Obelisk
Part 4/5
“It’s going away! My, what a magnificent beast,” Rick commented as he jotted down a few more notes.
“We don’t want to waste the time Sunny has given us, do we?” Skyler sternly said. Her eyebrows were scrunched and the friendly spark from her eyes was gone, “Let’s get a move on.”
Neddy mounted Goofy and began to run off.
“Last one there is a rotten egg!” Neddy jeered at Ruby. Ruby glared and shook her fist in the air.
“That’s not even fair!”
She began to run off after him, and Rick followed suit, still jotting a few notes down. Paige rolled her eyes but smiled anyway.
“Hm,” Paige thought.
The rest of the group made their way through the plains and toward the earth bridge, which connected to the metal platform. Samuel noticed a strange metal beam sticking out of the center.
“What IS that?” Samuel thought.
“Alright we’ve made it, great,” Skyler suddenly interrupted Samuel’s thinking. She looked up at the obelisk in all of its glory, as if she was waiting for something.
“So, what now?” Paige asked, putting her right hand on her hip, “Shouldn’t a fragment be falling down right about now? Or however it went.”
“Yes, YES,” Skyler spouted, “It should. It should. Right- Right about now.”
She raised her hand up in the air, as if she was calling for it with her own mind. Aurora raised her eyebrow at her as if she were crazy. Maybe she was.
But Samuel was looking at something else.
The strange metal beam was jutted right out of the platform like a sore thumb, and for a moment, he briefly remembered the words of the boy he had killed way back when. The one who was called Larry.
“Uh, well, we actually come from the west, all the way out west there’s a, a weird metal platform that looks kinda like the implants in our wrists,” Larry had claimed.
Samuel gingerly reached into his graduation robe pocket and pulled out Lil Jack’s implant. Dim and dull, it no longer hummed with that radiant life. He pulled it closer to the beam, and with wide eyes spotted an uncanny resemblance between the two. As Samuel moved the implant closer, so did his hand. It was almost as if the implant was being drawn to the metal beam. Within a second, the implant fully connected to the beam like a magnet.
CLICK!
SHOOOM!
The green beam that spewed from the obelisk began to glow more intensely, and everyone gasped in awe. Skyler began to laugh.
“Ah ha! I was right! It’s reacting to my call!” Skyler grinned with wide eyes.
Samuel’s hands were slightly shaking, a discovery made.
“What just- What just happened? What did I do? What’s going to happen?” Samuel thought, “Why do I feel so scared? This doesn’t make sense.”
Samuel looked past Skyler, into the forest where they had come from. As his pupils dilated, he noticed the red aura again. It was back. It lingered, and Samuel noticed sharp teeth flicker within the darkness, a large claw tapping softly on the tree. It sliced the tree, and it fell down. Samuel jumped back in surprise.
“YES! YES! THIS IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!” Skyler suddenly screamed. Everyone was looking at Skyler in awe. In her hand was a small sphere that was wrapped in some strange hide. There was a weird pin on the top, and…
Suddenly shaken out of his daze, Samuel cried out in fear.
“THAT’S A GRENADE!”

Chapter 33: The Obelisk
Part 2/5
“What do you mean you can’t go?” Skyler sneered at Ben. He was leaning against the wall of his hut, his arms crossed and a leg pivoted against the ground. Ben blinked a few times, his eyes heavy and dark bags hidden beneath.
“Yeah, I can’t. Sorry. Something hit me last night. Must’ve been that cold the newcomer had,” Ben explained, his voice raspy. He coughed loudly to prove his point. Skyler groaned, facepalming.
“Alright, fine. Stay behind. But who’s going to take your place now?”
“Just take Sunny,” Ben said, nodding at Sunny. Her face lit up.
“Me?”
“Yeah. You,” Ben replied, “Go out and explore this island with the others. It’ll be nice.”
“Are you sure about this Ben? You know her ability isn’t-”
“Doesn’t really matter, does it? There’s lots of us and you’re a capable leader. You’ll do fine,” Ben answered lazily. He let out a sigh and began walking off to the farms.
“Have fun.”
Sunny looked back and forth and shrugged.
“Well I’m not complaining. I’ve been getting sick of picking up fertilizer…”
Sunny rushed inside her hut and grabbed her weapon, a small slingshot. It may be small, but it was easy to use, at least to her. She had a few rocks stashed in her pouch.
Skyler called out to the camp, announcing their departure at the gates. Eventually all who had been recruited by Skyler for their expedition to the Green Obelisk had gathered around in a small cluster. Paige was talking to Rick about something, slamming her club into her hand over and over again. Neddy was riding Goofy the Carnotaurus, holding the reins to the saddle in his hands skeptically. Ruby watched on with a smile. Sunny was twirling a small dagger in her hands, her back rested against Stream the Kaprosuchus.
Finally, Samuel noticed Aurora standing at the far end, and she smiled gently at him. Guess she was coming too.
Samuel looked back at Star, who was staring at him with soft eyes. Samuel waved goodbye, and Star lifted a wing, waving back. He smiled, turning away as the group exited the gates.

Chapter 33: The Obelisk
Part 1/5
SPLASH!
Samuel blinked his eyes rapidly, the sun’s rays shining directly into his eyes, and he saw Neddy standing above him with a waterskin dripping with water. He had his arms sprawled out, and Samuel quickly jolted up with a hand across his face.
“What did you just do?” Samuel asked as he looked around. His face was doused in water. Lots of the Book Club members were conversing about something, and quite a few were packing their bags, as if they were prepared to go somewhere.
“You had fallen asleep outside,” Ruby suddenly interjected. She began to laugh, “Me and Neddy spotted you outside and thought it would be funny to wake you up by splashing water on you.”
Samuel looked back at the two with an unamused look.
“Really? You couldn’t have just tapped me on the shoulder or something?”
“Nah. Like we said, we thought it was really funny. Hope you don’t mind,” Ruby said. Samuel squinted his eyes at the two of them. Something was different between them, although he wasn’t too sure what. He noticed Ruby was standing closer to Neddy than she usually was, but he wasn’t too sure why.
Footsteps approached them, and Samuel turned his head around to see Skyler walking toward him with a leather satchel strapped around her shoulder. Standing by her side was the super muscular raptor that the previous leader, Tiffany had named Special Raptor.
“Hey Samuel. Glad you’ve finally awoken. We’re getting ready to head to the Obelisk right now. Grab your weapons and supplies and prepare yourself. I’ll be heading out with you,” Skyler said.
“Should I bring my raptor?” Samuel asked, nodding his head at his pet Raptor.
“Of course. We’ll be bringing almost everyone,” Skyler replied, “Chris, Sunny, Simon, Bobby, and Gary will be staying back, but everyone else is going.”
“Okay. I’ll get ready right now.”
As Samuel got up from the floor and walked over to his hut, he looked back at Skyler curiously.
“That’s weird. She’s coming with us. Is that normal?”
No. It definitely wasn’t. And judging from how passionate Skyler seemed about the obelisks, she wanted to personally go to attain this so-called “power”.
“Not like that matters. She’s just a bit… doozy,” Samuel thought. He began to sweat, “But I’m not seeking to survive, I want to escape. I need to find Tiffany. Maybe this trip is an opportunity that has been provided to me.”
Before Samuel entered the hut, he saw Star huddling in the shade where it was cool. By now, Samuel had already accepted the fact that Star was not ordinary, and that there was more to her than meets the eye. He really wanted to figure out what the paper she had given him meant, but there were bigger things on the line.
Samuel grabbed his spear, brushed his hair to the side, and readjusted his work boots.
“Show time,” Samuel whispered as he walked out the hut.

Tidbit 1
It had been a year since John, Paul, Ian, and Carlos were at their Humble Jungle facilities. They only came every once in a while to meet and greet with the guests. They were getting some solid money with it. They decided to meet up with some old friends. Ben calls all of his friends to meet at the Central Mansion, which was where they met to have parties together. After traveling there they decide to have some conversation.
“So, how is your Humble Jungle going?” Warren asks. He’s middle aged already.
“It’s going great.” John says.
“Yeah, we’re having a blast.” Carlos said. Old Man Johnson hobbles over. At this point he’s REALLY old. He has a huge beard and his cane helped him walk. In order to live he took a strange Immortality Potion for a million dollars. Surprisingly it actually worked.
“Hello, it’s been a while hasn’t it?” Old Man Johnson says. Warren walks over with Sam and Darren. Darren is still in his wheelchair and Sam seems to have gotten a strange spy watch. Turns out Sam actually became a secret agent which gave a lot of money. Darren worked as a lawyer. Warren had still worked as the chief of Piggy City. Ben had decided to work with John, Paul, Ian, and Carlos at Humble Jungle Ind. for a little bit. Junk-Me walks in the room with Snowy Mole. At this point Snowy Mole is a little bigger, around the size of a French Bulldog. Junk-Me also seems a little rusty. It truly has been a while.
“You want to play some video games? Minecraft?” Junk-Me says.
“Sure.” Johnson says. Johnson takes out an IPad and turns on Minecraft. John, Carlos, Paul, and Ian turn on the Xbox One in the room and turn on Minecraft there. The rest take out IPads and they have a fun time playing. All of a sudden, they heard a whirr. Ian takes a peek outside and sees a time machine! People burst into the room, all of them with strange futuristic armor that even their time seemed to not know of.
“You’re coming with us. You completed the test.” one of them said. They all took out clubs and knocked them out. When they woke up, they didn’t have any clothes on except for their underwear. They all felt a strange itch on their left wrist. They all take a look and see an implant in their arm!
“Ahhh!” Paul screams. Warren takes a look around. They seem to be on a beach with strange creatures roaming around. There are a few dodos roaming the beach. Warren could’ve sworn dodos went extinct centuries ago. They also see… dinosaurs?! They see Triceratops and Dilophosaurus. They also saw huge turtles that were bigger than them.
“What is this place?” John asks.
“I don’t know, but we should probably survive if we want to live.” Ian says. Snowy Mole is all strange now. Instead, he seems to be a huge beaver. Junk-Me is also a little different. He seems to be his junkyard form. The biggest change was Darren, he didn’t have his wheelchair anymore! And he could walk!
“Wooo!” Darren screamed as he ran around the beach. They decide to gather materials to get tools and weapons to protect themselves.
“Maybe we need to punch the trees?” Carlos asks.
“Probably.” Sam said, punching some trees, “Oww!”. His fists were slightly bleeding but he was able to get some resources.
“What’d you get?” Johnson asks.
“Err, I got some thatch and wood.” Sam says. They also see some stones on the ground they pick up.
The Terrible Demise of Tortuga.
Chapter eight.
The next morning was about the same as the last. They ate breakfast then went to go ‘play’ with the other kids. “Hi guys!” Elizabeth said. She was talking with a boy they hadn’t met yet. “Who are you?” Jack asked. “Eric Swan, my parents are Nia Swan and Josh Swan.” He said. “Well, I’ll let you boys talk, I have to find Justin.” Elizabeth said. “I think he’s with Josephina and Jaquin but ok.” Emma said then walked off to talk with some girls who were age. Elizabeth skipped off, her long brown hair looking golden in the sunlight. Eric watched her go. He sighed dreamily. Jay and Jack watched Eric watch Elizabeth. Jack held out his hand and tapped Eric on the back, startling him. “How old is she?” Jack asked Eric. “I think she’s thirteen like me.” Eric said. “Exactly.” Jay said. Eric turned red. “Calm down Eric, there will be others.” Jay said.
Meanwhile Emma was talking with Emilia Bolton and a few other girls. “…yeah my family operates the lighthouse here for ships at sea.” Emilia said. “It’s a family tradition for the oldest child to take over the job so I get it. Yay!” She said sarcastically. “You don’t want to?” Rachelle asked. Emilia shook her head. “Nah, I hate this island. I wanna leave when I grow up.” Emilia said. “You gotta get a boat first though.” Olivia said matter of factly. “I guess… although…. I could just sneak on the next boat sailing away to another island.” Emilia said. They all laughed at this absurd notion. “You’de get caught. I’ve seen you try to sneak, you’re terrible at it.” Elizabeth said. “Would not!” Emilia protested. “Would too!” Elizabeth said. This continued till Emma interrupted them. “Okay guys break it up!” They reluctantly complied. “Why hello ladies.” Andrew said walking up. Though he addressed them all he was specifically looking at Emma. “Hi Andrew.” They said at the same time except Emma. “Hi Andrew.” Emma said shyly. Rachelle cleared her throat. “You know we’re not exactly adults yet.” Rachelle said. “So you don’t have to say ‘ladies’.” Andrew opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted. “But y’all might as well be.” A voice said. They turned to see the mayors’ sons. One of them stepped in front of Andrew and turned to Emma. “You must be the new girl. You look….” He struggled for a phrase. “…. uh…..uh…um……um….cute?” He grabbed her hand and kissed it. “I’m Michael, pleasure to meet you.” Michael said. Emma yanked her hand away from him. “Pleasure.” She said trying to keep the disgust off her face. “But I have to go check on my brothers.” She pushed past him and headed over to Jack and Jay who were talking with Eric and a few other boys.
“Did you know that there is a type of mushroom that is called a death cap?” Aaron Jr. asked. “Nope never heard of it.” Eric said. “Yeah there is, if you eat it it has this molecule that will kill your liver and kidneys. You’de be dead in five days unless you get a transplant.” Aaron Jr. said. They all gulped. “I’ll never eat wild mushrooms again.” Eric said then shuddered. Just then Emma walked up, with a disgusted look on her face. “What happened to you?” Jay inquired, noticing her disgusted face. “I just meet one of the mayors’ sons!” She whispered. “He kissed my hand! I almost threw up.” Jack and Jay cracked their knuckles in unison. “I’m going to wash my hands now, with LOTS of soap.” She said and ran off. Eric grimaced. “Those boys are just spoiled brats, just don’t tell them I said that, they’re the future mayors after all.” Eric said. “Nobody does that to OUR sister. NOBODY.” Jack said. “Plus they’re not even her age, they’re only seventeen.” Aaron Jr. said. “What?!!” Jack exclaimed. “And they’re going to be mayors soon?!”
