They are a real pain in the butt to tame though once you get them they are incredible- you can find them in the redwoods of the island, the savannah islands of ragnarok.

this is one of the only creatures on all of ark who actually LIKE cooked meat

Fly with an argi along the edge of the redwoods and look at the trees below the treetop. You can actually see them well and check the level with the telescope.

If you have one you like, land near the side of the tree and shoot down with the shotgun.

Then collect it with the argi and throw it into a trap.

Since he prefers to eat cooked meat, he can be tamed very well with fillet. Just take enough narcotics with you.

The trap should not be too far away from where you collect it, just quickly build one out of supports nearby. Otherwise he will tear the argi apart in the air.

Yuo can Pick them with an argy and Put them into a taming pen If your Brave enough but make the pen's walls high enough because they can JUMP as hell

Easy tame just shoot it with a harpoon launcher with the nets, then place wooden billboards around it, it can not get out.

Knock out with a net gun, then tranq. Remember to net gun every few seconds.

The cheapest way of taming one of these is with a crossbow on top of a dino with a lot of hp, but that only works with low level ones. For high levels, you'll need to build a taming pen using stone doorframes. A 2×2×2 pen will work just fine, just be sure to kill all hostile dinos in the area.

I just fly around the redwoods for ages until one of these shows it’s face trying to kill a dilo and then I pick it up and back to the pen we go. Tamed 3 like this

You can go with a flyer, just fly where the tree leaves are. I’m talking about the redwoods.

Best place to tame them is SE, there are no trees so they cant ambush you.

My all time favorite mount!! Find a high level and make it yours.

Add the points to health, stamina and the rest in attack and he is good to go.

Tip for taming one:

Build a taming pin (at least 3 high), get your argy (or other flyer) and find the thyla you like. Shoot it 1 time with a tranq dart from enough distance so it will fall out of the tree without killing you, hop on your argy and pick the thyla up when he's running towards you and drop it in the pin. Tame it with cooked prime meat (they prefer cooked) and there you go! BTW, make sure you have enough narco to feed it while it's taming.

I picked one up with an Argy. Dropped it in a 2 high pen. Knocked it out. Feed it the goods. Job done. The End.

It says you need ALOT of narcotic and whatnot to tame it but it only took me 4 extraordinary kibble and no narcotic soooooo ya
