Tips & Strategies

What are tips for thylacoleo? Tips and strategies for thylacoleo in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Build a stone trap that has 6 foundations or more with doorframes. They can’t climb doorframes so don’t use walls (I’m not sure if they can climb walls in the wild but just in case). Use an argent or something that can pick it up, drop it in the trap, knock it out with whatever you have. Be careful and bring lots of narcotics because there torpor goes down really fast. Congratulations you now have a Bear cat Thyla thing!
Thylas make amazing combat/travel mounts.
They have the stats of a spino which is ridiculous for a creature of this size, and then on top of that, they have many amazing traits which I keep discovering.
To name a few:
-They can run pretty fast.
-They can jump really high and grab onto vertical surfaces and then move up or down on that surface.
-They can do a special attack from vertical surfaces, which in order to perform you have to first move the cursor downwards toward ground and then press the atk button , which they jump unto small and medium creatures , pinning them to the ground for about 8 seconds or so, all the while you can attack them but they can't. Amazing against flyers and stuff.
-They can do their attack while sprinting and jumping.
-they can instantly turn around 180° to attack those creatures that attack you from behind. Which you can't turn around to attack them on many other mounts. To do this 180 spin, press jump while looking towards the back of your mount.
-They can control their jump, press back or forward to control where you fall.
-They can and prefer eating cooked meat , which eating them makes thylas heal much faster than raw meat or berries that normal tames can eat.
-their attack also does bleeding damage which piercers armor and depletes around 5% of the bitten creatures health over 5 seconds. Ranking their damage dealing capabilities off the charts.
-their main attack has good range. Making you able to attack creatures outside of their damage dealing range. For example you could attack from on top of a rock while raptors and such keep looking at you.
-as mentioned earlier, their stats are all really high, which makes them a pocket rex/spino. (damage, health, stamina are very high and weight is also quite high)
So much easier to find some on Scorched Earth than on the island guys
Bring 1-3 small bear traps, tranq it and make it chase u to the traps, then shoot at the head with all youve got. Also watch out for terror birds
Shoot it out of its tree, then pick with argie and drop it into a trap/hole. Cook up some mutton beforehand.
Bred a slick navy blue and silver mutation.
Many surfaces are considered 'vertical' for it to climb, including the southern side of Volcano on The Island, from which you can then pounce back into the redwood, which is the biggest leap I've found yet
These guys are really good cave runners because of health stamina and damage, it can also climbe and if look down when your on a tree you can pounce on something like moose (quick tip for mobile players like me you need to press and hold the jump button to climb) also forgot to mention it can also travel far with the pounce ability, it can also grab wild flyers to just to let yall know. (:
Just fly over the trees and only land in openings when going over redwoods. Learned this lesson the hard way but I only let it happen once!
Say good bye to your life basically
They’ll hit you through your shield when you’re pinned so don’t even bother putting it up. Your best bet which has worked wonders for me is immediately switching to your machete and start swinging the moment you get knocked out of your flyer
These guys are amazing. So far only found them in redwoods. Found 1 in a tree the other fighting on ground.
Can be picked up by wyverns easily on SE near the mountains by Green obi. Be careful because they tend to climb the sheer cliff walls and pounce on unsuspecting metal farmers.
You want to explore the red woods?
Tough
These guys obviously don’t want you to. Fortunately there is a way to avoid being ripped of your mount and ripped to shreds. Thylacoleos never attack Megatheriums. I was riding through the redwoods on my megatherium and I ran into one. Like I actually walked into it and didn’t even seem to notice me. I checked the level and it was a 145 so I shot while I rode my sloth and tamed it. Like this tip if you found this tip helpful and so others won’t get eaten.
P.S this is very helpful for taming.
I read that you can’t get knocked off on a quetzal on this thing.THAT IS 100% WRONG.
All that’s needed is to spot it, get a grappling hook, and a parachute, (just for good measure in the case you remove it) and pelt away at the Thyla! Tamed a level 7, 35, and 67 today using this method.
