Incredibly underrated early game tame. Throw its spines up and enjoy reduced damage on an already bulky dino. Nothing will knock you off the saddle and your stego will eat up any hits it takes. This makes it an excellent ride dino for tranqing others off its back. Its attacks also do formidable damage while dishing out solid knockback. You can repeatedly launch alpha raptors so that they can't hardly land a hit on you. Stego also collects wood, thatch, and berries pretty well with a decent weight stat. Grab one of these guys early and you'll have a safe taxi around the map who can also gather plenty of wood and thatch for you.

If you use hardened plate you will get more wood than the other plates

I cannot understate just how unstoppable just a pair of mateboosted and imprinted stegos can be.

Spinos and karkinos can barely inconvenience them much less meaningfuly damage them.

Sure they're slow, but they're easy tames and they'll get you where you need to go.

The new TLC for the Stego gave it three different battle modes that you change between using C on PC. Hardened is Damage Reduction, Heavy applies a slow to your opponent and Sharp ignores a good amount of armor. Finally, it is able to do an impale attack on an enemy when they reach a certain threshold and depending on the creature is is certain death.

Can confirm that the impale works on Rexes, though they can still bite you back given the proper angle. Also the Impale works when being carried by a Karkinos. Stegos are the new staple for fighting with a Karkinos. Let everyone know!

They’re great adventuring dinos because Raptors and Kapros can’t knock you off, and they collect tons of berries and thatch. I used mine to collect rare mushrooms and rare flowers in the swamp. Her name is Giratina. She’s awesome.

Best early game wood gatherer, can be easily trapped with billboards.

With the new turret settings, turrets set to player only will NOT shoot you off a stego. Stego is the new bullet soaking turtle.

This is the most versatile turret soaker in the game, all you need to do is tame one, get a good saddle bp, pump levels into health. ( you also can’t get picked off the stego when on it.)

These are perfect for collecting thatch and rockarrot on mobile, and it can beat any ground dino in a fight that is at most the same size.

Note to self, stegos’ heavy mode does not affect alpha rexs. Learned that the hard way. (It does affect normal ones though!)

With the new tlc this makes a really good mount for redwoods

Once you manage to sit through the tame, these things can be absolutely amazing for gathering berries.

You'll need two people, a quetzal, and your shiny new stego.

Have one person on the quetz, one on the stego, and have the quetzal pick up the stego in its big chicken feet.

The quetz may now fly around, very close to the ground, and the stego can swing to get constant berries.

Don't spam the "swing" button, or you won't gather anything. Wait until the swing animation is over, and then tap it again.

When the quetzal is encumbered, they can drop the stego to regain stamina, the person on the stego can drop the undesired goodies, and you can go off again.

Tame a tek one. When they change stances, the glow on their body changes. Sharp spikes is best, and the one that makes it look like an airplane is nice

If you don’t want to run around gathering fiber and wood to quickly build a base last moment before the Allosaurus pack nearby spots you, if you want to tame Argies quickly and effectively, if you want to take out raptor packs quickly, you will need a stegosaurus.

Blue plate mode can stunlock pretty much anything in the game due to the slow + knockback. Maybe it can kill gigas too, but im not crazy enough to try.

Pros: Can gather a TON of thatch, along with wood and berries.

Cons: SO FREAKING SLOW

When on abrration these guys are INSANE at getting all the kinds of mushrooms. If i can remember the sword buff is what gets alot of it.
