Ultimus chapter 8: Invalid
A Kaiju Roar blast through the house.
Andrew woke up in panic hearing it. Reuben’s head shot up and he started barking in panic and fear. The tv in his room was on and on full blast. He looked in his bed and found he slept on the remote. He grabbed it and looked at the tv. An enormous dragon was on the screen roaring into the air on a mountain. He shut off the television and got up. It was time to prepare for his journey to Sanctuary.
A little while later, he walked into the shed and began searching for anything he could use on his journey. He opened up several boxes and didn’t find much that could help him. He looked at a corner of the room and saw the two large containers with his parent’s names. He walked over to them and grabbed the door to the container with his dad’s name and opened it. Andrew’s eyes widened with awe as he saw first generation Tek gear and weapons. He saw a tek rifle, a railgun, a tek bow and a tek knife. But all of that didn’t interest him as much as the first generation Tek armor sitting on a mannequin.
“That would make my trip to Sanctuary a lot easier.” Andrew said to himself. He could just fly to Sanctuary!!
He immediately took off the helmet and noticed on the chest piece had a switch on it. Andrew with more effort then he thought he needed, he flipped it and the chest piece collapsed into a vest. He noticed that each of the other pieces connected to the chest piece also had these switches. He began flipping them all and they all collapsed into smaller pieces like a belt, fingerless gloves and even ankle bracelets. Once he did so, he began taking each off the mannequin and started putting them on. He stood them for a moment after putting them all on. He had never touched or used Tek gear in his life. He didn’t know how it would feel once he flipped all the switches. He looked at shed doorway where Reuben was sitting. He flipped the switches on the boots and gloves and they began to morph into their proper shape and adjusted to Andrew’s size. Andrew gasped in awe and Reuben panicked seeing what was happening and by the sound Andrew made and started jumping up onto Andrew.
“It’s okay Reuben. It’s okay, it just surprised me.” Andrew said while trying to calm down Reuben.
After a little bit of trying to calm down Reuben and successfully doing so. Andrew flipped the switch to the leggings and chest piece. Both pieces did the same as others did the other pieces. However, once they reached the other pieces, all of the pieces fused together and locked into one piece. Andrew found a mirror and looked at the armor, no seems whatsoever. He put on the helmet and it seemed to begin to do the same as the other pieces. But it partially connected before stopping.
“Retinal ID required.” An autonomous voice said, then a light flashed into Andrew’s eyes. Andrew wasn’t sure what it was, but didn’t dare close his eyes. Then a buzzer sounded and the Helmet detached from the rest of the suit.
“Invalid Retina ID. Limited access to the Tek Armor only.” The autonomous voice said, Andrew was confused by this.
“What does limited access allow me?” Andrew asked,
“Limited Access includes: armor wearability, armor protection, increased endurance and temperature control.” The autonomous voice said. Andrew took off the helmet and groaned.
‘So much for easier. Well, it’s still useable, might as well wear it for now.’ Andrew thought. He put the helmet back on the mannequin and noticed his dad’s name and nickname on the side of it.
Andrew walked outside and noticed that the sun was rising, he didn’t feel like he got up that early. Did he? He went inside the house and grabbed a rifle and a couple extra loaded clips. He went outside the front door and looked around the front of the house for an ATV or vehicle, nothing. He knew the park entrance always had a spare vehicle at the visitor center, but that was still a major distance away. Reuben walked up to Andrew and looked up at him. Andrew looked down and smiled.
“I think we got a long walk ahead of us.” Andrew said, and he and Reuben started running down the overgrown path that was once his parent’s driveway.

The Obelisk
-Chapter 98-
Claws scraped against the stone ground. The Wyvern stepped forwards, glaring down at the Five carnivores with his yellow eyes glinting in the moonlight.
Forest looked up at the rippling bronze scales. “W—who are you?” he yelled.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” The dragon snapped. Spines trailed down his neck and back, bristling under the dark sky. He climbed forward and straightened, holding his head high.
“What do you want?” Nyx asked.
He bared his teeth slightly. “You know what I want,” he snarled. “I’m going to prove Peeri wrong!”
Forest blinked at him. “Peeri?” He asked. “You know her?”
“I knew her,” He hissed.
“Knew?” Nyx echoed softly, stepping back.
The Wyvern didn’t answer for a long moment. Forest gazed up at him. “Is she— dead?”
“None of that matters!” A tail lashed sideways as the dragon reared up, his eyes filling with unreadable emotion. “She’s gone now, and she deserved it! And now I can do whatever I want without her worrying over my shoulder or yelling at me for—” He stopped, his expression burning with anger. He took another step forward. “You’re the last threat I need to deal with, and then I’ll be free.”
Forest took a small pace back. Crimson and Spark snarled quietly, claws digging into the ground.
Clouds had started to gather overhead. Forest looked down, feeling the rune stir in his bag.
“Jethezzar?” he whispered. “Is that your name?”
There was a pause. “How do you know that?” The dragon asked.
“You were mentioned. The Terror birds had allied with you.”
“I am no longer allied with them,” Jethezzar yelled. “I don’t need them. I don’t need anyone.”
The ground got more shadowed as the sky thickened with clouds. Jethezzar looked up at the sky and then to Forest, his eyes blaring into the Rock Drakes’.
Then the rune began to glow. The Wyverns eyes widened, and Forest reached in and pulled it out as it throbbed brightly at him.
“You have it,” Jethezzar said suddenly. “You have the rune!”
Forest doubled back in panic as Jethezzar came towards him. “No!” Crimson roared, jumping in front of Forest. Spark and Rust came up on his other side, with Nyx at their tails.
“It exists,” The Wyvern was saying. “You actually found it. Give it to me,” he hissed.
“You can’t have it!” Forest said as the rune grew brighter and the grey clouds stirred overhead.
“I have to,” Jethezzar said. “It should belong to me, not you. I’ve waited years for this, and I can’t give up now! Give me that rune!”
At the same moment he lunged forwards. The Five fell back and thunder rumbled as the Wyvern aimed for Forest. Forest scrambled backwards before crashing onto his side against the ground. The rune fell from his claws and skidded across the stone ahead of him. Jethezzar stepped over him and reached.
“Wait— Don’t!” Forest yelled.
He picked up the rune and stared down at it with a look of triumph.
Thunder crackled.
Then suddenly Jethezzars expression changed. He stopped smiling and his pupils shrank. Forest struggled upwards, the others standing behind him.
The clouds were moving. Wind flew around the Wyvern and he looked up, his eyes widening in horror at the cyclone of clouds as the storm circled and circled, before reaching down from the sky towards Jethezzar.
Forest tried to move forward against the wind, but it was too strong for him to take a step or see the Wyvern in front of him. “Let go!” He cried.
Jethezzar only had a moment to look over at Forest, his eyes full of fear, before the clouds swallowed him up.

Riddles of the Phoenixes series
The War of the Phoenixes.
Chapter nineteen: A way back.
Jack had been walking for miles, trying to get back to the castle. Or so it seemed to him. “Ugh! Why did Jay have to get the portal power?! Why?! Just why?!” Jack moaned. “This is going to take forever.” He groaned. Suddenly he stopped. “Wait…where is the Dark phoenixes castle?!”
Jack sighed. He would need to find a equus or something to ride back to the castle. Luckily he had packed a bunch of food and water. The thing that motivated him the most was Cyra. She was waiting for him at the castle. He kept picturing her face. Her teal green eyes, her long dark brown hair, her milky white smooth skin, and her soft velvet lips.
Jack shook his head. He needed to focus. Night was coming upon him fast so he decided to camp for the night. A small town was nearby. Maybe he could stop there for rest and maybe find a horse.
…
Little did he know that he was being followed.

Chapter 59: Funeral
Part 3/3
“O-Okay, YOU GOT ME!” Jerry struggled out his words, “I YIELD.”
The blue fire flickered away, and the blue aura around Jerry disappeared. Jerry dropped to the ground, and the Carcharodontosaurus stared at Loki with a smile. Jerry got up from the ground, the smile faded from his face. He gave another smile, putting his hands back in his pockets.
“You’re strong,” Jerry told Loki.
“I know.”
Jerry walked up to Loki, and Loki stared him down.
“I respect that fighting spirit, Loki,” Jerry said while licking his lips, “You aren’t afraid to get ya’ hands dirty. So, how about this… I’ll handle whatever hit you want me to handle. Free of charge.”
Loki looked at Maddox, and he shrugged. Loki turned back to Jerry.
“And how will I know that you will get this job done?”
Jerry held his left hand out. A red glow began to emanate from his implant.
“A blood pact. If I fail to finish the task and return in… say, three day’s time, I’ll have my heart compromised. It’ll put me in pain for a very long time, and I won’t survive for long. You won’t suffer any consequences. The only thing I ask you to do, is to let me do whatever I want around here.”
Loki grabbed onto Jerry’s hand.
“You can do whatever you want, but if I tell you to do something you’ll listen.”
Jerry grinned maniacally.
“That’s right. So do we have a deal?”
“Yes,” Loki said as he shook his hand. Loki’s implant began to glow, and then both implants stopped glowing. Jerry put his hands back in his pockets and hopped back on his Carcharodontosaurus.
“So what’s the first thing you want me to do?” Jerry asked.
Loki briefly explained about the Knowers down south, and Jerry smiled.
“They’ve got a T-Rex huh? Perfect. That’ll be a tasty snack for Romeo.”
Jerry tugged on the reins of Romeo again, and Romeo began to walk off.
“You have my word that I’ll finish the job!”
As the Carcharodontosaurus disappeared into the fog, Loki turned to Maddox and Dr. Aston.
“That’s one thing down,” Loki said, “Now we need to move to Step 2.”
“It’s time we collect our next artifact.”

Chapter 59: Funeral
Part 2/3
The rider spotted the three and gave a big grin, revealing a shiny, golden tooth that reflected the sun’s beams of light into Loki’s eyes. Loki quickly shielded his face.
“I socked his face.”
“YOU HAVE QUITE THE SETTLEMENT GOING ON HERE!” Jerry screamed aloud. Loki put his fingers to his lips to whistle for Crusher, but Dr. Aston quickly stopped him.
“Hold on. Don’t do anything yet. Let’s see why he’s here,” Dr. Aston decided. Jerry tugged on the reins of the saddle, and the giant beast stepped over the buildings slowly and cautiously, making his way over to the trio.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The three quickly stepped back, but there was no point in running. The beast lowered its head to sniff the three, and Jerry let out a boisterous laugh as he pointed his finger at the three.
“Maddox, it’s so good to see you again!” Jerry said in a mocking tone.
“Don’t count on reciprocation,” Maddox snapped back.
Jerry’s implant began to glow, and his eyes began to glow a bright red, “So. What’s stopping me from ordering this Carcharodontosaurus from just eating you all in one gulp? Or what’s stopping me from making your blood spill right from your guts?”
Maddox pointed his fist at Jerry, and sharp claws protruded out of his knuckles. Poison dripped from the ends of each claw onto the soft snow.
“I’ll shoot my claws out, so we’ll both end up dying if you try.”
Jerry let out another holler, and the Carcharodontosaurus began to let out a laugh too. After a few seconds, Jerry regained his composure, and tugged on the reins of the Carcharodontosaurus.
“Down, Romeo.”
The Carcharodontosaurus quickly collapsed to its bottom, laying its entire body down on the soft snow. Jerry got up from the saddle and walked along the back of the beast, his hands in his pockets. He had dead frizzy hair that seemed ready to fall out at any moment, and a gold necklace with a cross around his neck. He was shirtless in this weather, but wore gray cloth pants.
“You still have that fight left in you,” Jerry realized with joy in his eyes, “Good. But what about these other two?”
Jerry hopped off his beast and walked up to Dr. Aston, circling him and looking him in his eyes.
“And how about you, old man? Your brittle bones gonna stop you from putting up a fight?”
Dr. Aston sneered at Jerry, clenching his fists tight.
“Just because I’m old doesn’t mean I won’t fight back,” Dr. Aston replied. Jerry let out another giggle, it almost sounded like a little girl who was playing with her toys. His eyes darted to Loki.
“And what about you?”
Loki tensed up, and Jerry let out a sly smile. He looked past Loki’s shoulder and at the grave.
“Whose grave is that?” Jerry asked. Loki didn’t respond.
“Answer me boy!”
Jerry’s eyes began to glow brighter, and Loki’s heart raced. He could feel himself growing dizzier. Was this Jerry’s attribute?
“Mr. Mo’s!” Loki finally responded, “It’s Mr. Mo’s.”
Jerry let out a snort.
“The pitiful principal. I wouldn’t be surprised. That coward does not know the nature of this world. He doesn’t know anything!”
Jerry gave a ghastly grin and said,
“He deserved to die, if I’m going to be honest.”
Loki clenched his fists and instantly swung at Jerry. As his fist connected to Jerry’s cheek, he was sent stumbling to the side. Jerry let out a groan as he clenched his cheek, and a blue flame flickered in Loki’s eyes. Loki clenched his other fist and a blue glow began to emanate from Jerry. Loki lifted Jerry up into the air, gritting his teeth and seething at the man.
“You will NOT say that about Mr. Ma! He didn’t deserve to die!” Loki said. Jerry looked back at Loki and let out another laugh.
“You’re not so bad after all, huh?” Jerry cackled. He took his hands out of his pockets and shrugged. He had many gold rings on his fingers.
“Perhaps I underestimate the principal’s PET.”
Loki slammed Jerry into the wall of a nearby building, and Jerry let out a gasp of air as his head rattled back and forth. Loki began to clench his fist as tight as he could, and suddenly Jerry’s neck began to contract. He began to cough and choke, grasping at his throat as he struggled to breathe. The red from his eyes began to flicker away, and the Carcharodontosaurus looked at Jerry without reaction.
“SHUT. UP.”

Loki slowly knelt down, a blood-stained pike rested in the palm of both of his hands. An unmarked gravestone rested in the snow, and the wind blew ferociously upon him as he gently laid the pike onto the ground.
“I won’t let you down, Mr. Ma,” Loki muttered to himself. His hands began to shake as he moved them away, and he moved them up to rub his eyes. He got up from his knees, the crunch of snow approaching from behind.
“Who’s there?” Loki asked quietly. The crunch stopped.
“Dr. Aston,” a shaky voice replied, “It’s Chloe. She’s awake.”
Loki turned around, his eyes sparkling.
“Where?”
The crunch of snow filled the air again, and a muscular woman quickly ran to the two of them. He looked back in order and she had a bright smile across her face.
“Chloe!”
“Loki!”
The two rushed at each other and embraced in a hug.
“You’re okay,” Loki said with a smile.
“Yeah of course I am,” Chloe replied, “You saved me.”
Chloe looked past Loki and at the grave. Her smile instantly transformed into a frown.
“Loki… I’m sorry.”
Loki looked back at the grave. The snow continued to hail down on the gravesite, covering the pike up.
“It’s okay, I think,” Loki replied. He felt tears burst from his eyes, “I just didn’t want it to go that way-”
Loki began to sob again, and Chloe hugged him again.
“Come on, Loki, there’s no time for that. We need to be strong for a moment. Then, we can cry, okay? There are people here that need to be put in tip-top shape, and ready to serve this settlement for its greater good,” Chloe told Loki.
“Chloe is right,” Dr. Aston replied, looking uncomfortably at Mr. Ma’s grave, “We have work to do.”
Loki quickly wiped the tears away from his eyes and nodded in affirmation.
“You’re right. This place will collapse without Mr. Ma, we need to take charge. And there are people we need to take care of. Fast.”
Chloe raised her eyebrow.
“What do you mean by that Loki?”
Loki’s eyes wandered off into the beyond. Somewhere out there, there was a cabin that held two dangerous Knowers who could threaten the settlement as they knew it with their knowledge and power.
“Down south there are two guys who were taming a Rex. They already knew how to, and they’re too close. They need to be killed.”
Chloe looked horrified.
“Killed? But what if they’re not a threat?”
Loki shut his eyes tight and shook his head fast.
“No chance. They’ll grow too strong and we can’t take that risk. They need to be handled.”
“And how are we going to deal with this… threat?” Dr. Aston asked as he picked at his fingernail.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The ground began to shake, and Dr. Aston’s safety goggles fell off. A primal roar echoed from Crusher the Rex, and all three turned around to see a large beast twice as large as their Tyrannosaurus running toward the settlement. It had spines running down its back and large powerful bipedal legs that were as tall as the complex. Its teeth were as razor sharp as the sharks that swam in the oceans. Screams began to ring throughout the camp, and Loki squinted his eyes to see a rider atop.
“Ah shi-” Chloe almost said. Dr. Aston slapped his hand across her mouth.
“Language,” Dr. Aston warned him, “Just because you are no longer my student does not warrant you to run that foul speech around me.”
Chloe rolled her eyes, and the beast made its way to the perimeter of the settlement before quickly screeching to a halt. Chloe gasped as she spotted the rider atop the beast.
“Jerry,” Chloe muttered with gritted teeth.
“Jerry? Who’s that?” Loki asked.
“Oh just a bit of trouble on the football team. Used to be the team captain, but he always tried picking fights with anyone of any shape and size. Including me,” Chloe explained, “He tried to land a punch on me once, but-”
The rider spotted the three and gave a big grin, revealing a shiny, golden tooth that reflected the sun’s beams of light into Loki’s eyes. Loki quickly shielded his face.
“I won the fight.”
