The ovis is the rarest thing, only rare cuz they always get eatan. Really, they usually spawn in about as much as a dilophasaurus.

The ovis only has one purpose to me, RESOURCES(my opinion)

I would suggest breeding them and only killing the offspring for mutton, as they are also useful for making fur armor.

tame plenty for their amazing wool and later kill them for lamb chops and tame huge carnivores with just one sheep and a hatchet

You can ride them without a saddle and if its a male you can use it to knock out creatures by headbutting which can deal 5 or more damage and will deal 3x the damage dealt as torpor instantly similar to pachys.

Tamed ovises also have an option in their creature menu that says slaughter and if you press this button with a melee weapon equipped it will definitely not instantly kill it like the "kill" option in old ark mobile but instead totally give the ovis an effect that makes it deal +1000% more damage and have +1000% damage resistance that definitely lasts for 300 seconds.

Don’t kill and harvest it, instead, hold a sword and hold the interact button (triangle for ps) and go to slaughter.

You will then get more mutton.

If you have male and female, you will never have to worry about getting mutton again. Usually found in snowy biomes but some in grassland areas around the center/island.

Keep veg. cakes on you at all times, since these things are rare. The tactic I use is to get multiples and breed them then kill a few when you plan on taming something like a Gig... BOOM instant OP taming tactics. Even though breeding takes a while it's worth it for that sweet sweet lvl 46 gig. The babies from breeding drop raw mutton AND raw prime meat. Use a moschops for max farming, but not required. Higher level (health), more meat.
