At first glance this diamond shaped boss seems harmless until the fight begins. But why is this boss a diamond? What’s the point of this boss? Why is it a diamond shape? Well thats what I’m here to talk about! So let’s get into it!

As we all know, this is the final boss of the island, as well as the only ticket to ascension upon beating it. So what might we not know? Some people are just there for the win, however some dig deep for answers, but to understand this boss you must consider why the boss is there in the first place. And it’s name “overseer” is also a way of classifying “one who over sees the rest”, having this in mind it’s job and reasoning for being there is quite simple. But why does it do this? The ARK’s themselves (to simplify, think of them as realistic environment’s orbiting in space, with a self generated atmosphere, running into the barrier of the map is basically running into the atmosphere/forcefield also preventing leaving) cannot watch every survivor’s actions, hence why the overseer is there in the first place. Now knowing this let’s consider what is considered an action worth “punishment” by the Arks standards.

Being punished by an ark is no walk in the park, corruption, and trying to cheat the way through arks are considered punishment worthy. But why wasn’t Rockwell, or nerva punished? Since Arks are they’re own thing, we can assume they have some standards of which they draw the line. So let’s discuss this! -in case I run out of text be sure to search for the rest!- since nobody was really punished in this ark, we have to dig deep to find out why. And one theory I have is that the Arks would rather not interfere with functioning tribes. This would make sense as Nerva had a tribe, and Rockwell documented jumping from tribe to tribe. And during this time Rockwell wasn’t as corrupt as he was, therefore wasn’t punishment worthy. Nerva worked his way to power, so no reasonable way of punishment would be necessary. So now let’s talk about it’s soul purpose of being there.

So why is he there? We discussed one reason why, but it has another way more important task, upon fighting it it usually takes the shape of a diamond very similar to the obelisk diamond. This would mean either the overseer is a well respected unit by the Arks, or the Arks made it as this is the most common shape Arks use. Or both. Anyways, after a bit of fighting it then takes the shape of the 3 bosses fought previously to get here. Why does it do this? It does this to challenge the survivor, it’s soul purpose, it’s there to determine if the survivor is truly ready to ascend, and upon beating him, it dissolves out of existence, before summoning itself back in wait of the next survivor. Upon defeating it, the Ark gets you to ascend, to scorched earth.
