They can spawn almost anywhere. Encountered one with my sister along the Eastern Beach, and I found one asleep in the forest near Carnivore island.

the most useful thing I've found is if you knock it out within 2 game hours of nightfall (1830-2030), the megalosaurus will still be slow when you knock it out, and will not wake up when nightfall happens, effectively making it stay asleep for an entire day cycle

To tame one ko at sunrise with arrows or darks or what you prefer so it won’t wake up instantly then after get meat of your choice or kibble put your supplies in the megalo then if it takes before night then enjoy your megalo if it doesn’t it’ll wake up and you haft to re ko it but don’t worry it will save your taming percentage when tamed you now have a fluffy carno(a megalo) enjoy
