Pack bug repellent and a raptor. Without them, you’re toast. P.S. If you have no repellent, the mantis might trick you to following it and it will do a sneaky attack.

It's a PASSIVE TAME so don't try to beat it up or you will regret it

Lure one into a closed trap and seal it off, a 2x2x2 will suffice. You'll leave one wall open until it's in and then place it. A doorway and door on the other side. After that add ceilings and go out of render. Once you come back it should be calm and you can feed it through the walls easily as they almost never move.

How to tame a mantis the dangerous way

Get Deathworm horns by killing deathworms

Get a flyer and put it on passive

Fly over a high level mantis and jump on top of, then passive feed it.

Run away from the mantis if it doesn't tame right away

Do it again if it doens to work the first time

If you wish to tame one you will need a rhino or death worm horn. Once one is acquired, pop a bug repellent and a ghille suit(optional) go behind it and boom you know have one of the best games in the game

It will be easier to trap the mantis than to tame it out in the wild as it will aggressively attack almost anything in sight, make sure there’s no corpses either, but once trapped and deagros on your stone trap, you can slowly tame the mantis, if it doesn’t stop deagroing on your stone trap you might have to break it, once you have your tamed mantis have fun!

You don’t need ghillie or anything really. Just pick it up with a wyvern and drop it deep in the ocean. It won’t aggro and can just feed it in the water. If it does aggro then fly out of render and back and it will work. Some of these other guys making these too difficult and are noobs. Always take the easy route.

2x2 foundation 2 door frames high (can do 1 high) bug repellent and Ascendant desert cloth works fine while crouched. Work smarter not harder. If you choose the ghille broth and repellent you definitely working to hard. Relax take a breath and get’r done eh

I love how if you aggro these things mid tame they’re impossible to reset by flying away, and they seem to aggro at random. I have ghillie, bug spray and cactus broth, didn’t even touch this guy, was behind him, crouched, and he still aggroed. Yesterday, spent an hour trying to tame this same idiot and on the last horn it stopped giving me the proc. He wasn’t aggroed, wouldn’t aggro, just stood there. I logged out and in and he was aggroed, just glitched. I’ve seen videos of people doing this in just ghillie, walking right up to them, I’m wondering if on PC the mechanics/aggro range/sensitivity is different than console.

You really have to make sure you use bug repellent. Ghillie armor is not enough!

Lure it into the water and get tame it from behind. It can't jump in the water

Make sure to get low levels for breeding, they have more chance to have more leval ups and are good for staurting as a nub.

I hate taming stuff like the mantis that’s a passive tame but is still aggressive. Huge pain. Bring some ghillie, it helps a lot.
