Here's how to tame a hyaenodon:

1. They are passive tames, which means you don't need to knock them out to tame them.

2. Walk up to one slowly from the back, but don't get too close. And then pet it.

3. Keep petting it until it's tamed.

I struggled for hours with this tame trying to pet it in the open and I realized that wasn’t going to work. I looked up some trapping videos and through my own experimentation, have found the best way to tame the hyenas.

1) Build a 2 story tower, 1 foundation and 1 hatch frame as the ceiling. Make the walls on the second floor 2 walls high and leave the roof open.

2) grab whichever hyena you want with your flying tame and drop it into the tower, it may take a couple tries because it’s hard to aim into a 1x1 space, but the tower being 1x1 makes it so the hyena stays mostly still

3) if the hyena is aggroed, leave render distance and come back. And before you start taking, wear a ghilli suit, cactus broth not required.

4) get underneath the hatch frame and pet the hyena. You’re going to want a spyglass too, because the hatch frame interaction hud will pop up instead of the option to pet the hyena, but if you use a spyglass every few seconds, the hyena’s hud will pop up instead of the hatch frame.

5) just keep petting and you have a dog! If the hyena moves around while in the space, just try to avoid being in front of its head so it won’t see you.
