Tips & Strategies

if taming the alpha be very careful. the alpha is very skittish and will run if gotten close to. to tame the alpha you must kill all pack mates.
They are not on mobile! So sad, now I I can’t get a good boi…least I have the dire wolf.
They drop prime so if you’re not interested in taming them then killing them is a good option
I had one, HAD. I brought it from Extinction to Valguero, I left it outside with my Wyvern, yet it still got killed by a Ravager. Hyaenodon=Weak when tamed.
You pet the doggo, not feed him
Build a 1x1 out of thatch or whatever your heart desires, grab an argy and drop one in it. You can pet it through the wall! BOOM! Done. I used wood foundation and thatch walls that were lying around. Must be walls, so it can't "see" you. Mine had its head sticking through a wall and I got super close and just started petting it like George from of mice and men.
Best way to tame a whole pack: make a normal ramp trap, but add FIVE extra foundations in a line away from the main body of the trap separated by a double door. At the end of the foundation tunnel, put another double door and a ceiling with a hatchframe surrounded by walls, the one at the end should be a single door. Make sure the ground is level enough for you to get under this.
Lure the pack into the trap (either by aggro-ing a 3+ member pack or using honey) and get the alpha to follow you down the corridor and lock it in the hatchframe room. It is now far enough away that the rest of the pack won't register as too close to it to tame. They are SO much more chill like this, you can just stand in their face and pet them, seriously. Tame any packmembers that catch your eye, then kill the rest.
Now the alpha is alone and tameable, but also far more jumpy. Crawl under the hatchframe and carefully pet it through the floor. It CAN still sense you if you're in the open part of the hatchframe, so stick to the edges and touch those tootsies when they stick through. And boom, entire pack is yours. Put some meat packs on them, breed them to see the cutest babies in the game and enjoy!
If you want an excellent taming bin watch Neebs Gaming - how to make a baby
Hyaenadons dont fit through doorframes. I had my own 1 tamed in a trap made of doorframes and 2 high. it had nowhere to run
Is phlinger the only one that knows how to tame a hyaenodon or needs gaming?
first use a flyer trap it in a 2x2 box then get some ghillie pet it once try it and fail but if you do just go out of render it won’t be scared anymore once you come back
Ghillie suit. Always stay crouched. Never touch them. If they run stay crouched but you will lose progress from last pet. The higher the level the less progress for each pet. Full ghillie suit not half ass. STAY LOW BE PATIENT OR YOU WONT TAME THEM.
Don’t nock it out it will not attack you you just have 2 walk over and pet the cute thing
If you somehow have access to Scorched Earth items, be sure to make and consume Cactus Broth before taming this animal; Together with a full set of Ghillie Suit and a clear taming area, you can easily pet it without risking an aggro of either flee or attack kinds.
Pro Tip! These guys can actually give you prime meat and you can get them with any carnivore! (I think)
Hands down one of if not the best hunting dog in ark. Cheap to armor, pack bonus, heals when harvesting corpses, and most importantly they are treated as man sized for Dino colishion so even raptors don’t get stuck on them. High lvl pack can down deathworms and alpha Rex BUT require a anchor or the Rex will spin and do massive trample damage.
