Creatures of Nightmares
Chapter 1: Secrets
The pack of three hyenaedons crouched by the mountain. Two males, one female. They creeped forward near an Argentavis walking around. The group of hyenaedons suddenly pounced. A gray male sank his teeth into a wing. The other male, a larger black hyenaadon, sank his teeth in the other wing. The female, a light brown, bit the Argentavis’ neck. With one last cry, the Argentavis was done. “Good,” the gray male hissed. The female stood tall, and snarled. She knew the males always took all of the credit for her hunting skills. “Calm down, little girl,” the black one sneered. “It would be awfully bad if someone heard you.. perhaps.. tripped at the top of the mountain..” He brushed against her with a hiss and nodded to the gray male.
The gray male pulled the army and they disappeared in the shadows. The female growled in disgust. She followed and went to the rest of the pack.
This pack consisted of twelve hyenaedons, and about eight of them were males. The males practically ruled the packs. Sometimes even wars came from males trying to gain power.
The black male stood high. “You, my darling hyenaedons, will eat tonight because of me. All I require is your obedience.” The pack cheered, “Yes, Shadow!” But not out of happiness, but of fear. If they didn’t cheer, something bad was bound to happen.
The female stayed at the back of the group. She was strong and smart, and the males only used her. All of the females never had names. They were worthless to Shadow. But she would come up with a plan. A plan to escape.

Chapter 2
The female hyenaedon trotted over to a cave. The pack was still talking with Shadow. She had only slipped away. Her first escape plan was to just silently leave in the night. But Shadow would be on her tail the second he knew she was gone. She curled up at the entrance of the cave. The female grounded her brain, trying to figure out a plan. Then, she had one.

She huffed out of the cave the next morning. She stood taller. The female sat down and started grooming her paws. Then, Shadow came. “Hello, dear. We’re hunting. Now.” He hissed. “You go ahead and do that.” She said, still grooming her paws. Shadow gave a warning growl and shoved her to the ground. “We are going. Right. Now.” He snarled. She just replied, “Well, have fun with that grey male.” He roared in anger and ripped her ear. She yelped as if it was extremely painful. A few hyenaedons looked near her.
“You worthless creature!” Shadow growled and bit her back. All the hyenaedons were watching us. Perfect, she thought. “Aren’t all you females tired of Shadow? Tired of his control?” She yipped and kicked Shadow. “Who’s ready to go against him?” She stood tall.
“Oh, my dear,” Shadow cooed. “You’ll never win.” The female saw a flash of red in his eyes. He suddenly howled. But not like a hyenaedon. It was a hollow, eerie, deadly sound. The other hyenaedons howled. Then, they all started heading for her.
She started running and they all chased her. Shadow, leading the pack of 11 hyenaedons, whispered, “I never needed you anyways.”

Chapter 4
Sleep.. barely came. The female was shaken and nervous, laying under the ridge for hours before her eyes closed. Her shoulders throbbed and her head hurt. She was laying in a small pool of her own blood.

Suddenly, she woke up. Her ear flicked. Unfortunately, her other one had been so torn it was ripped off as she had rolled down the hill. With a groan, she stood and looked around. The female saw the hill she had rolled down from, and decided almost immediately to travel away from it.
With a slight limp, she trudged her way through a small forest. The female saw a few creatures, a lystrosaurus and dodos, but they ran in fear as they saw her fur caked with blood. It seemed like a miracle she was even alive.
The female was still walking as she felt colder. Then, she felt snow under her paws. It was so cold, but made her paws a bit numb. It was nice for her. Her paws had been screaming at her to take a break. But after a short time, the snow was thick and tall. Every step became more like a fight to her. The female’s legs were freezing. As she walked longer, she noticed mammoths, penguins, and.. direwolves. Her ear pulled back and she gave a slight whimper.
Shadow.. like a direwolf.. she couldn’t take it. The female almost turned around right then. But she knew she couldn’t. Nervously, she hopped over snow and went under what looked like an ice bridge. Here, there was almost no snow. She curled up, tired from her journey. Her eyes closed.

The deep voice of a firewood woke her. She opened her eyes and looked around. The female heard the stomp of paws on the bridge. Instantly, she sat up and flicked her one ear. Was her ear deceiving her? Did she really hear a direwolf? The sound had stopped.
But then.. “Scout the area. I want her alive.” Said a deep, male voice. It was similar to Shadow’s voice.. and she shook in fear.

Chapter 5
The voice.. over and over.. “I want her alive.” It was Shadow’s voice.. and she couldn’t help but wonder if he still was a direwolf. The female climbed the bridge with her expert claws and peeked over. Shadow was there. She almost screamed in horror.
His eyes were bloodshot red, his black fur ruffled. He had sharp fangs, long claws, and an evil smile. His fur had droplets of blood on it, and she knew it wasn’t his.
Still peeking over the edge, she wondered if he was real..
“Shadow..” she whispered, like a ghost. But he sharply turned and headed for her.

“AAAAAAAAAH!!!” She screamed. But then the female looked around. She was under the bridge. What was that? Shadow hadn’t really been there.. could he have? Was that a dream.. or..
She shook her head. -It was probably just me having a nightmare- she huffed. The female got up and started trotting over to take a drink of water.
But then, she noticed something. The female knew her paws had gotten slightly bigger, but now, she could tell she was the size of a direwolf. The female had claws similar to a direwolf’s, and a bushy tail. Her fur was a mix of brown and white. -Huh- she thought to herself. -Maybe I’m as fast as one..-
She turned sharply and started sprinting. She felt the wind in her fur and every bound was farther than the other. She swerved through forests and soared over rocks. Finally, about 30 minutes later, she stopped.
The female panted and now realized she was extremely hungry. She had never hunted alone. With a sigh, she walked to nearby water, took a drink, and then dived in. The female shivered a bit but got used to the cold. She swam lower and snapped her jaws at a lone sabertooth salmon. The female had missed but hit it on the second try. She began dragging it to shore as she felt jaws grab her back legs.
“Aarrrghhh!” She yelled. The female kicked her back legs but that seemed to attract more jaws. PIRANHAS! She swerved around and bit a piranha. It swam away, but more came. Chomping at her feet and tail and her back. She groaned. “Air..” she said. “I.. need.. air..”

The female woke up. She blinked a few times. She was dry. “Huh..” the female whispered and looked around until she saw a male direwolf near her. He was a reddish orange direwolf, looking like a giant fox (fun fact, I have an orange direwolf). He was very handsome and muscular.
The female stopped looking at him and looked over at the open sea. She peered down and saw piranhas and then her reflection.
Her fur was white as the snow and she had glimmering blue eyes. She was certainly a direwolf. The female even looked at her tail and back legs and saw them fully healed. Suddenly, she flicked her ear. “Finally awake, are you?” Said a voice. The male direwolf.
His voice was deep and kind. She turned, curling her long bushy tail by her side. He stood tall. “What do you mean?” The female replied.
“You were unconscious for 2 days,” he answered.
“Oh..” she said.
“My name’s Prince,” the male said. Then, with a curious voice, he asked, “What’s your name?”
The female lowered her tail. “I don’t have one..”
“Well, let’s get you one.” He simply replied.
The female was confused. She expected him to ask why. “Ok,” she said.
“Ooh!” He said. “I know.”
“What is it?” The female asked, very curiously..

Creatures of Nightmares
Chapter 3
The female’s heart was pounding. Her legs took her far, but Shadow’s legs took him farther. He slowly gained on her. But she noticed something. It seemed.. as if the whole pack had disappeared. Now, It was just him. His fur ruffled and made him look larger as she swerved through the forest and jumped over rocks. She could hear his breathing louder, and even felt it on her spine.
The female gave a burst of speed, making a gap between her and Shadow. His eyes flashed red again. She gave another burst of speed and Shadow snarled. The gap between them was bigger. She glanced behind her and saw him gaining crazily, fast as a direwolf!
Suddenly, she tripped on a rock. She flipped forward and groaned as he thrust himself toward her, soaring through the air.
She rolled and dodged, scrambling to her feet. The female ran again, and Shadow still chased. She panted and her legs felt numb but she kept going. Yet, he was gaining. His breath grew louder to her, and she felt it, this time on her neck. He aimed for her neck, but instead bit her at the shoulder. The female yelped in pain as he tossed her on her back, and he placed his paws on her chest. His eyes gleamed red, his fur on end. Now, Shadow looked like a direwolf completely.
“I really hate to do this,” he growled. “But, I suppose, I must.” Shadow opened his jaws and headed for her neck when an alpha raptor jumped on him. He roared in anger and clawed at the raptor. The female ran, bleeding at her chest because of scratches from shadow’s claws. Her shoulders ached as she ran and ran south. The female gave one last glance at Shadow, and noticed the alpha raptor was almost dead.
As she ran, she went downhill. Her legs felt like jelly and she fumbled. The female yelped as she rolled down the hill, hitting rocks and tree trunks. She finally stopped rolling, now covered in bruises and scratches. The female limped toward a small overhang in a rocky ridge. -At least I won’t get wet if it rains- she thought. Her mind suddenly focused on Shadow. A black hyenaedon had doubled in size, and had sharp claws, spiky fur, and deadly red eyes.
-How could this happen?- the female thought to herself. She shook her head to focus and laid down under the overhang, shaken from what she had seen. The rude pack leader had become something else.. a creature.. of nightmares.

The Obelisk
-Chapter 54-
Night had come.
The five had gotten as much sleep as they could throughout the day, and shortly after the sun set, the trapdoor was closed, and everything was dark.
Forest lay by the bars, resting his chin on his talons. He wasn’t very tired after all the shut eye he’d gotten already, but he needed to conserve his energy as they waited for the Prince to arrive.
Slowly the amount of guards diminished as the rest of the prisoners went to sleep.
This was what Coal was counting on, Forest thought. Oh, I hope he knows what he’s doing.
Crimson sat with her eyes closed against the corner of the cell, her tail flipping back and forth. Spark was near her, curled up in a comfortable position. Rust and Nyx paced acrossed the cell quietly.
Finally, when what seemed like hours had passed, he heard a quiet scuffle of claws down the hallway. Everyone perked their heads up.
The dark figure of the Prince appeared, colored dark blue and indigo in Forests night vision. He fluffed his wings silently and Forest heard a tiny jingle of keys.
Coal approached the cell door. There was a slight c l i c k, and the Five stood up quickly.
“Shhh,” Coal hushed quietly. “Come on.”
The cell door opened, letting out a tiny creak. All of the other prisoners were sleeping, and there were no guards in sight. The Five carefully exited the cell, fear and excitement bristling along each of their spines.
Coal led the way down the hall, but Forest suddenly stopped, remembering something.
Nyx turned to see why Forest had stopped. “What?” She mouthed.
Prince Coal whirled his head around, his expression irritated. “What are you doing?“ he asked.
“Wait,” Forest said quietly. He gestured for the Prince, and Coal carefully trailed behind him.
Forest haulted to a stop at one of the cells, and turned to point at the sleeping figure inside. “Free him too,” Forest said.
The Terror bird glanced at the sleeping Thylacoleo. “Why?”
“He doesn’t deserve to be trapped here,” Forest whispered.
The Prince hesitated, then nodded slowly. He held out the keys and slipped one in the lock. The door swung open. Forest whispered his thanks. This was a big risk for the Prince.
Forest padded inside the cell and nudged the Thylacoleo softly with his snout. “Wake up.”
“Hmmmph?” The Thyla lifted his head, squinting. “Who—what—“
“Shhh, quiet,” Forest whispered. “We’re breaking out.”
The Thylacoleos instincts kicked in. He stood up, tired but ready, and bobbed his head in cooperation.
Forest nodded back. “I’m Forest.”
“I’m Bramble,” whispered the Thyla. “Let’s get out of here.”
They stepped out of the cell. “What now?” Nyx whispered.
“I know the quickest way out,” the Prince said.
“OK,” Forest said. “But first—there’s something else we need, too.”
In my first ever ark play through I got 2 of these guys but they reproduced extremely fast and before I knew I had a pack of 30 hyenas they could shred through anything then I brought them to the brood mother and I almost cried when the first hyena and the alpha died rip echo and delta

Chapter 47 ~in a hole lot of trouble~
Sir Charles slowly opened his eyes, his vision was blurry at first at he blinked to clear it. Once he did he saw that they were in a cage, well a makeshift cage really, it was just random pit with steep walls that they couldn’t climb with a grate of rusty iron on top, above the grate was a rock ceiling, they must’ve been in a cave. Quan was angrily honking in the kairuku language, and most everyone else was still unconscious. “Where are we?” Charles asked Ron who was sitting in a corner. (His feathers were ruffled and he had a black eye.) “we’re in the mines, should’ve guessed purlovias would be the miners…” He said. “They were heavily trained fighters for miners..” Charles said. “Yes, they even defeated me! NOBODY DEFEATS ME!!!” Quan yelled. “Uh we just did, and quiet down in there!” A purlovia called down from above. “Oh? It is quiet you want?” Quan said mock sincerely, he then continued honking even louder than before. The guard moaned in annoyance. “Is anyone heavily injured?” Charles asked. “Ping and Richard, the purlovias moved them somewhere else, hopefully to care for their wounds..” Ron said. “What do we do now.” Evelin asked. “We hopefully get some answers, I’m guessing Alfred isn’t here or we would’ve been put in with other slave miners, but since the purlovias are the ones mining, he must not be here.” Ron said. “Perhaps we just haven’t been put in with them yet.” Charles said hopefully. (He knew it was unlikely but he wanted to find his friend.) “either way we gotta escape and find out what we can about Khar and Alfred’s whereabouts.” Ron said. “Maybe we should ask why they attacked us in the first place.” Lee said. They seemed to agree so he continued, calling up to the gaurd, “Why are we in here anyway? Why did you attack us?” He asked. “It was a preemptive strike, we knew why your here..” the gaurd said “and why is that?” “Your enemies of the monarchy, come to rob us of our precious metals, duh.” “No we’re not, we are actually all knights under her majesty, the Yeti queen.” Charles said. “What? Don’t you know there’s a new Queen?” “Actually she was just overthrown. By the original Queen.” Charles said. “You know what they say: out with the new in with the old!” Trickster said. “Ya, they don’t say that. (Groan) ohh I guess I’ll go ask the boss what we should do about you, if your telling the truth…” the guard said.
There was a long wait before the purlovia came back with his boss. “What’s this about a new Queen and you being knights or somethin.” The boss (who was an anky) said dismissively. Charles explained, “well then, I guess we better let you go then.” The anky said. The purlovias dug out a path for them to get out of the hole and started to fill it in. “Would you like a tour of the mine.” The ankylosaurus said in a depressed cold voice. “Umm sure?” Ron said. “Moleandre here can show ya around. Is the new Queen still wanting more of the same metal?” The anky asked. “I believe not, we don’t want any of that retched substance.” Charles said. The ankylosaurus rolled his eyes, clearly annoyed, “well that what do we do with the stuff!” He asked. “That’s none of our concern, destroy it, for all we care.” Charles said. The ankylosaurus scoffed and angrily stomped away grumbling to himself.

Chapter seventeen: Mission instructions.
The team followed Marvelo down the hall. Willow was in the lead right behind Marvelo. Hailey and Brutus were behind her and Daniel was behind them and Camille took up the the back of the line with Jaron in front of her. Finally they came to the black gates that led to the throne room. Marvelo stepped in first. Willow stepped to the side to “wait for Daniel”. She stuck her foot out a bit to where when Hailey was passing her, Hailey tripped and fell to the floor. Hailey’s face hit the concrete. “Ow!” Hailey exclaimed. Willow cocked her head at Hailey. “Oops.” Willow whispered in a unapologetic tone. “You okay Hailey?” Daniel asked walking up. “Yes I just…(she looked at Willow) tripped.” Hailey said. Daniel took Hailey’s hand and helped her to her feet. They gazed into each other’s eyes for a moment. Frozen, unable to move. “Hailey’s eyes were so innocent and naïve” Daniel thought. Her eyes were a bright hazel and so…enchanting and mysterious. Willow watched them with a jealous face. She glided over and took Daniel’s hand. “Hey Danny! Come on let’s go! We don’t want to be late.” Willow said. “That’s okay Willow I don’t think-” Daniel began but Willow led him away into the throne room. “What was that about?” Hailey asked Brutus. Brutus shrugged. “I think… that Willow woman is jealous of you and thinks your trying to steal Daniel from her.” Hailey scoffed. “Why would I do that?” Brutus shrugged again. Then they walked into the throne room. Tom sat on his throne and surveyed them as they entered. Jaron came over and stood by Hailey. He put his arm around Hailey’s shoulders protectively (Jaron is very protective of his sister) then began stroking the back of her head gently. Hailey put her head on his shoulder and clenched his hand desperately for a reason she didn’t know. Camille walked in last, stretching her wings. Tom’s eyes flickered to Hailey and Jaron briefly and for a second Hailey thought he looked sad. Then he set his gaze back to the rest of the team. “Marvelo. Tell them the mission.” Tom instructed. Marvelo nodded and gave his master a short bow. “Now…none of you know much about this but…the betrayers escaped again.” Marvelo said. The team groaned. “Actually we did know that.” Hailey said. Marvelo narrowed his eyes at her. “And HOW did y’all know?” Hailey grinned. “You just told us.” She said. Daniel, Jaron, Brutus and Peggie snickered. Willow rolled her eyes exasperated. “Before NOW!” Marvelo snapped. Tom cleared his throat. “You all will be going….except for Hailey.” Tom said. “Aww looks like daddys afraid his wittle girl is gonna get hurt.” Willow leaned over and whispered. Brutus growled at her. “Back off punk!” Brutus whispered. “Your mission starts tomorrow so get ready…..now you are all dismissed.” Tom said. All of them filed out of the room except Hailey and Jaron and Peggie and Brutus. “Please sir. Please let her come. She’ll be fine I’ll protect her.” Jaron begged. “Please father…I can do it. I promise. Please, pretty please? Puhleasse?” Hailey begged. Wait…had she said that before? Had this happened before? Tom sighed. He couldn’t resist that face. “Fine.” He said. “Yes!” Tom watched them go. Hopefully this went well.
