Chapter 2

The female hyenaedon trotted over to a cave. The pack was still talking with Shadow. She had only slipped away. Her first escape plan was to just silently leave in the night. But Shadow would be on her tail the second he knew she was gone. She curled up at the entrance of the cave. The female grounded her brain, trying to figure out a plan. Then, she had one.

She huffed out of the cave the next morning. She stood taller. The female sat down and started grooming her paws. Then, Shadow came. “Hello, dear. We’re hunting. Now.” He hissed. “You go ahead and do that.” She said, still grooming her paws. Shadow gave a warning growl and shoved her to the ground. “We are going. Right. Now.” He snarled. She just replied, “Well, have fun with that grey male.” He roared in anger and ripped her ear. She yelped as if it was extremely painful. A few hyenaedons looked near her.

“You worthless creature!” Shadow growled and bit her back. All the hyenaedons were watching us. Perfect, she thought. “Aren’t all you females tired of Shadow? Tired of his control?” She yipped and kicked Shadow. “Who’s ready to go against him?” She stood tall.

“Oh, my dear,” Shadow cooed. “You’ll never win.” The female saw a flash of red in his eyes. He suddenly howled. But not like a hyenaedon. It was a hollow, eerie, deadly sound. The other hyenaedons howled. Then, they all started heading for her.

She started running and they all chased her. Shadow, leading the pack of 11 hyenaedons, whispered, “I never needed you anyways.”
