ARK: Survival Evolved & Ascended Companion
Tips & Strategies

ASA player here! Not even a week in, and I've already tamed one of these cuties!
Let's start this fairly easy tame, NO EGGS:
- 4 stone gates & doors (a hefty amount of stone, wood, and trash, but you got this!)
- Your trusty getaway dino if needed (I used raptor, but he wasn't needed!)
- Bow & arrow
You don't need beartraps, but if it makes you feel safer, go ahead!
PREPARE
Place down your gates and doors relatively close to the nest. If it helps, clear any trees or foliage that might make it hard to see the parent Giganotoraptor.
Shoot the parent with an arrow or two while staying nice and snug in your trap. Once they're inside, close the doors on them and hop right in the nest!
THE MINIGAME
Baby will run up to you and flap it's wings when it wants to play. I play on PS5, so the controls are fairly easy to remember: Left to spin, down to bow, right to flap. You have about 3-5 seconds of doing it before you miss.
After a few goes, it's all yours!
CONCERNS
- If the baby does not engage with you after a while, try aggroing the parent again, or let it go back to the nest for a bit before luring it back in. It should help fix the problem! I haven't tried the destroying nest bit yet, but do feel free to try if this doesn't work.
- This hasn't happened to me, but sometimes the parent can escape. Just try to put it back in!
Hope this helps tame your fluffy critter!

More Gigantoraptor Taming & KO Tips
While taming it an alpha rex decided it would be funny to 'help'
If the baby refuses to do the taming minigame with you, try breaking some of the rocks/trees around the nest. I think whatever wildcard did to prevent trapping the parent extended to ANYTHING that could potentially stop the parent from reaching the nest. I tried multiple times to tame a baby and got no response, but as soon as I cleared the area for the parent, the taming game worked first try.
Fun fact! Unlike other babies, if you eliminate the parent, you still can't claim the baby. Learned the hard way π
Step 1, bring an egg or two just in case ( i brought rex eggs)
Step 2, find a nest with parent and baby.
Step3, place the egg with some distance from the nest, and wait for the parent to see the egg and start to pick it.
Step 4, make ur way to the nest and hide in it(there is an interaction button that says hide in nest.
Step 5, wait for the baby to start the minigame for taming the baby.
Step 6, the parent should come back to the nest shortly after starting the minigame, dont freak out, it wont attack you while you do the minigames with the baby, it will protect you and the baby from any intruder, ur tribemate can even stand there with u beside the nest, but any sudden movement from your mate will alert the parent and attack, during a conflict where the parent runs away too far will make the baby pause the minigame, therefor u should put up another egg close to the nest to make the parent return, then the minigame with the baby will resume.
Step 6, once the minigame is 100% u got urself a Gigantoraptor :) and no u cant tame the parent (i play official pve)
Iβve tried looking for a maximum distance on how far the parent can detect fertilized eggs, 80m worked but Iβll keep testing
That one tip where they say you donβt need insert eggs is not true! The eggs must be fertilized
Step one. Sneak into nest
Step two. Imprint on babys.
Step three. Run for your life with baby.
DO NOT TRY TO TRAP THE ADULT. Me and my brother did this, we built a large stone trap, 2 people only, single player split screen on hard mode without single player settings, the baby had despawned and left us rotting in our grief.
-The parent will peck at a fertilized egg for about 30 seconds, typically enough time to perform one action with the baby. Higher levels will need multiple actions.
-When the baby wants to do an action, itβll walk towards you in the nest and jump. Youβll be shown a list of actions, one of which the baby will start doing, and you have about 3 seconds to pick the correct one to mimic.
Don't use your Gigatoraptor to tame a new one... do the mini game again so you get taming effectiveness bonus levels!! I wish the people that put the tip would have stated you get no taming efficiency... :-(
