How to tame a giant queen bee on the island
Items needed: rhynio, simple kibble/several raw prime meat, ghillie suit, bug repellant
1. Find a giant bee hive that has one or just a wild giant queen bee (skip to step 3 if you found one without a hive)
-You will know if a giant queen bee is nearby if you suddenly hear a screeching sound mixed with a squishing sound nearby that repeats every second or so
-Giant bee hives are found high up on redwood trees, they can also spawn on rock faces that are found below cliffs in certain areas. Some examples are the terrain near green ob and the footpaw plateau but there are some other areas
-If you go up to a giant bee hive and don't hear a buzzing sound then there is nothing inside it so you can just destroy it and get nothing
-They have 5000 health and take 65% less damage from firearms, but it counts as a thatch structure so certain creatures have damage multipliers on them
2. Destroy the hive with the giant queen bee
-Easiest way is to use a rhynio cuz they deal 10x damage to thatch structures, they can 1 shot regular giant bees, and they can fly so you don't have to build some weird stuff for your direbear to reach it
-If you are too close to the giant bee hive when you damage it, giant bees will chase you but if you are far away they wont chase you and you can freely damage the hive until its destroyed
3. Prevent the giant queen bee from flying to the stars
-They fly fairly slow but fast enough that if you lose sight of it for a few seconds you might have to spend a few minutes finding it again, they also hover in the sky infinitely like onycs
-Queen giant bees will begin spawning regular giant bees once a player or tame goes within a certain radius of it, they can do this infinitely but can only spawn a max of 10 regular giant bees, it also produces that same weird sound described above so use that to locate the queen giant bee if you lost it.
-They spawn at minimum level so they will most likely spawn at level 1, if your difficulty allows a max level of 150 they spawn at level 5.
-When a giant queen bee initially spawns it will fly in a straight line infinitely until it is aggroed in which it will actually get a brain and start descending to the ground then wander normally.
-You can aggro giant queen bees by eating a rare flower and waiting for the duration to end (this causes them to fly towards you but they can't physically harm you in any way as their only attack is spawning regular giant bees) or hitting them with a tranq arrow shot from a crossbow or using anything that doesnt kill them in one shot (This causes them to flee, also they usually have 80 health at level 1)
4. Sneak up to the queen giant bee and tame it
-If you are playing on singleplayer & mobile put raw prime meat in your last slot as singleplayer has 2.5x taming speed so it will tame instantly for levels 1-5 and even better you can spam it and it wont be as wasteful
-Otherwise put simple kibble in your last slot, as it will still tame instantly for levels 1-5
-If this is your first time then get ghillie armor and use bug repellant
-Run up to the giant queen bee really quickly, (pretty much hug it) wait for half of a second for the "feed [item] to tame" text to pop up, then press the food in your last slot and hope it tames instantly
-As with any other tip this is not 100% foolproof, you might have to try several times for it to work
-If the
-You have to be really quick as you have less than 2 seconds before the regular giant bees get mad which then results in the queen giant bee refusing to be fed
-Regular giant bees have a really distinct aggro sound which sounds like 2 consecutive "angry" buzzes, if you hear that run away, then get on your rhynio and start spamming the right side of your screen until every bee that's chasing you is dead, if you get dismounted continue to spam the right side of your screen, as you will still mount the rhynio and attack. This is because the bees effect only checks every 2 seconds to see if you are on a mount then dismounts you if you are instead of preventing you from mounting.
-If you see the cyan text flash on the screen for a frame then it disappears due to the queen bee moving away from the center of your screen, then hug the giant queen bee again then press the food in your last slot anyway, this works if its within the 2 seconds described previously because ark will allow you to feed a passive tame creature if you are in a close radius of it even if you don't see the cyan text
More Giant Bee Taming & KO Tips
If you want to tame one, the easiest way is to get a dire bear and break the nest, because they are immune to bees. Use it to break the nest, then when the nest beaks, make sure you have full ghille armor and bug repellent, and tame it with simple kibble. You can then go to the bee and press the 'aquire nest' button, and it will give you a bees nest. You can place this on any natural ground, but no human made floors. Put rare flowers into it, and it will produce giant bee honey over time. Rare flowers can be harvested from plants in the swamps across the island, but beware of the creatures that dwell there. When you go into your bees nest to gather honey, you will get the bee effect and start taking damadge, even though it is your own bees nest.
Passive tame. Use rare flowers. Take about 4-5. Use full ghille and bug spray. Even then the bees she summon may attack. She has a very bad view distance compared to other Dino's so stay close.
To avoid wasting your time, if no bees come out when you attack or take honey, it means that there is no queen in that hive.
ALWAYS break the hive with ranged attacks. If you choose to melee it,drones will continuously spawn from it infinitely, and they will repair the hive, so best to shoot it down and kill all the drones before attempting a tame. Oh, and the queen will spawn more drones periodically, so bee careful.
On the north east section of the island map, right near where the snow zone and tropic zones meet, there is a small natural bay. If you go inland from there you should see a small pathway that stays lower than the rest of the area. Inside that area are two spawns for giant bees that never seem to make a hive so you can easily tame them without the struggle of the hive.
Use Bug Repellent AFTER you break the hive with the Bear. No one ever said this and Iβve been taking aggro for years lol. It doesnβt work if itβs already applied before you break hive.
If you're playing on ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition, they are able to be tamed with 1 raw prime meat, so you don't have to waste your rare flowers or simple kibble.
Giant bees are a staple of cooking kibble or foods in ark because they produce honey, so hereβs a guide to help you tame one, so you can efficiently produce it
1. Giant queen bees are found in beehives, which are most common in redwood forests. Look for them on the trunks of the trees, some will have a beehive a short way up. To get a queen be to spawn you need to break the nest (NOTE: not all nests spawn a queen when broken) which is best done with a rocket launcher, or a creature. The nest will release bees when attacked which can dismount you so be careful about killing them and killing aggressive creatures beforehand.
2. Once the queen bee spawns it will wander around the forest. I recommend running away to let it deaggro (do not go out of render or it could despawn) to tame it you must feed it rare flowers or simple kibble, whichever you can get easier works, from the last slot on your hotbar. 3. You can either run in full speed and feed it before it notices you, or use ghille and bug repellant to sneak up and feed it. The second way is easier but uses more resources.
Happy taming!
Apparently, you can tame free-roaming queens on the Switch! Simply don a ghillie suit and bug repellent, run up to her, and quickly give her a kibble. Just donβt aggro the drones!
