Tips & Strategies

What are tips for dung beetle? Tips and strategies for dung beetle in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
The best method for the dung beetles productivity and keeping them out of the way…
When building your Dino garage make a lower level (only one wall high) underneath your Dino pen and use it as a dung beetle pen, (I keep my dodos down there with them too)
This way when you sent them to wandering they will have access to all the dino poo and keep your pen clean but not get in the way. No escaping. (make sure to close the door when going in and out)
Only level up weight. And when they fill up with fertilizer, either use it or drop it all after collecting the oil. The oil production slows down when they are holding too much fertilizer.
I have 4 beetles under my Dino pen and every day I’m getting about 600+ oil
They can destroy wooden structures. I was in the east underwatercave for deep SEA loot and Had a 1x1 wooden House with a bed. I had No weapon and so a lvl 200 dungbeatle Killed me nearly, Destroyer my bed and my foundation not what i expected.
I have only seen these in caves so far but they are useful for fertiliser when you are growing crops and Plants Species X etc.
The dung beetles are often found in caves and around swamps
I just used bug repellent and I tamed the dung beetle easy using spoiled meat and just walked out of the cave with holding the dung beetle then flew away on my Argie back home. I called him horn and he lives in a nice home.
Since ark ascended they now pick up the feces themselves. The range is actually ridiculous AND it won’t stop picking up feces even if it’s past its max weight. My dung beetle is 60/8 overencumbered and he still keeps picking up feces from all my tames without moving. Don’t even bother setting up a cage, the range for picking up feces is so broken they will overencumber themselves and stop moving in no time. And they’ll still pick up.
The little QoL turned this guy from a neat early game source of oil and slightly better bin for fertilizer into an actual 0 maintenance oil pump
For Ark Mobile: When filling their inventory with poop, temporarily put a weight collar on them. You’ll be able to fill them up with more poop than usual. When you’re done, make sure to take the collar off. The beetle will still be able to make fertilizer and oil even though they are encumbered.

While spoiled meat seems the easy way to go for taming, if you want to be more effective, poop is the way… easy way to get a load of fresh excrement for your beetle ? Just take a tame with you… and feed them lots of stimberries ! At the cost of your pets intestines, they shall have a new friend soon :)
these are amazing, i made an island for them, they love it!!
You can’t feed beetles titanosaur poop. So best is diplo or bronto poop. Go in a cave with bug repellent and a raptor (a strong one). You can go to the hunter’s cave because it is the easiest cave and megalosaurus won’t spawn there nor will centipedes spawn a lot in the there. If you are far away, bring Argentavis to carry the raptor and pick up the beetle yourself. If your lvl is too low well I guess you’re gonna need to travel all the way back on raptor-back. Again.
Best way to tame these guys is get as much rotten meat as possible and go find em, once found, try to take out all nearby bad animals and start feedin’. Up if u thought this was useful. ;)
Crop boxes are stackable on top each other on ASA. I put this tip here as these guys go with crops. I stacked 5 medium crop boxes on top each other and they are all growing crops in each one. Small crop boxes are working also. Haven’t tested large yet. I’m assuming they work as well.

If your playing on the lost island you can find some in the swamp
For some reason on Mobil they have a saddle slot. Weird, huh!
On Extinction you can find them in the south-east of the sanctuary.
