A handy tip to see if you need arrows or darts is to find out how much total health your doedicurus has and then choose your weapon to knock it out. Then using Dododex, see how many shots it takes to knock it out and then click on the weapon to see how much damage it does. Multiple those 2 numbers and if your answer is the relatively close to the health stat, choose a longneck instead. Example: I have a level 120 I want to tame. I have a crossbow that takes 40 shots to knock it out and does 150 damage per shot 40x150=6,000 so I switch to darts. If I had a level 100 and wanted to tame it with a crossbow that did 90 damage and took 50 shots to knock out 90x50=4,500 which (letβs pretend mine had 7k health) is less than 7,000 so I can knock it out with a crossbow. Remember that the examples at the end are NOT accurate just the idea. Happy taming!

Use Simple Rifle and Tranq Darts instead of arrows to keep from damaging too much. Like for people to see.
Be sure to shoot the doedicurus on it's underside, not the shell, the shell only takes half torpor
So much misinformation here. Where to begin lol ok so as of Aug 2023, you can knock out w tranq arrows no problem, just go for level 80+ shoot in the head not the shell, wait 5 seconds between shots. You canβt bola them so ignore that comment. Creatures do not take torpor damage when they are caught by bear traps so ignore that comment too. Someone said to use biotoxin to keep them unconscious thatβs a terrible plan because these guys wake up pretty fast, and they take quite awhile to tame high levels. You want to use narcoberries because they take the longest to take effect, the time it takes to fill up all the way is invaluable compared to filling it up fast.
They are excellent at getting stone, but they cant damage stone buildings..... im confused
Use a equus when itβs balled up to tame fast
they say nothing about how when it balls up its basically impossible to knock out
Dowdicuris is extremely useful and should be tamed as fast as possible.to anyone afraid of how long it takes to tame,the time estimate thing for doedicuris is quite off.i have a lvl 50 unconscious,and Dododex said about an hour and a half to tame,however,it has been about 10 minutes,and it is 20% done taming,so it should really be like 50 minutes.while thats not to much better,it takes way less time than Dododex says.amazing at getting stone.Highly recommended
Donβt listen to ppl who say u need tranq darts if itβs high enough lvl it wonβt get low enough to curl in a ball so if it is a high lvl you can use tranq arrows freely:)
To long to tame?
Pick it up with an argy and drop it into a pen. Place a sleeping bag down and sleep when you wake up it will be starved. Then knock it out at your leisure. Hope this helps.
Use tranq darts instead of arrows if you can, because they will roll up after taking a certain amount of damage and will only take 10% torpor when rolled up
