I found a 150 Dire Bear (pure black), and knocking it out with crossbow & tranq arrows almost killed it. Left it with 300 health out of 2500 so my recommendation would be to use tranq darts & tranq arrows as a mixture and or just tranq darts if you have enough. Tips from yours truly.-Nova

These bears are brilliant mounts- they can run fast and do a monsterous amount of damage. You can take rexs on these and if things go south you can outrun it anyway.

Use tranq arrows but no head shots it’ll die

I recommend using a cliff or a ledge do get high ground since bolas and bear trap don't work

Polar bears are far stronger than both regular dire bears and abberant dire bears. As of right now I believe they are only tamable on Ragnarok, unless you use cheats on Genesis (polar region) and then breed two bears. If your force tame the baby, it will act like a legitimate tame once it reaches full maturity. Polar bears are a little harder to get, but their well worth it in terms of stats.

I was reading all the tips but most were wrong. If you are planning to tame one of these, use a 3 by 3 taming pen with narcotic traps on the ramps. By far the safest way to take down the bear without putting yourself or the bear on danger.

Just use honey to tame them, all you have to do is grapple a couple bee hives for a high level, alpha killing, beast

You see one get on a rock and spray it until it gets knocked out and tame it may need some narcotics but still a great tame

Was trying to stay cheap and I’ve always tamed by bears using tranq arrows even tho they so close to dying and I’ve got this one knocked at about 246 lv and took 73 arrows and then it was one crossbow shot away from dying so I walked into the pen like a total badass’ and hit that thing five times over and it was at 8 hp so I couldn’t punch anymore and I went back to wait for it to regain enough hp and then it passed out. #ProWinsAgain

Go to a cliff and shoot it will work

Build a taming pen and knock with tranq with a snow owl near to heal.

First build a trap 3 dino gates spaced a little to leave a gap and doors either side trap and tranquil it with darts about 50 is enough now grapple up to beehives just before taming for the honey. And your done easy to tame and can easy kill just about anything

Really good for combat and gathering, easiest way to tame is to get a tapejara, place a large bear trap underneath a redwood tree, shoot at one while hanging on to the tree with the tapejara. It will aggro on to you but get stuck in the bear trap and can’t run away and it can’t hit you because you’re on the tree

If taming on Aberration, use shock darts. Killed a 150 that was at full health with regular tranq.

You can use an Argentavis trap to trap it and use Trang Darts instead of arrows! And you should tame with bee honey.

These guys are strong af as an all around mount, good health, good attack, and... OMNIVOROUS. It eats meat and berries

If you are looking for any old bear use darts. But to weed out the tanky ones from the weak ones use crossbow and bolts. Weaker ones usually die before getting knocked out

One of the best mounts ive used. Fast strong and dedly just level stam and health

If you're looking to take a dependable tame cave dibing then this is for you. I've watched bears take down groups of carnivores with ease and they can also swim pretty well. It's a jack of all trades!

I say it will almost eat anything in its path for example a direbear lvl 80 attacked and broke my boat ballista and one shot me!
