Some weapons eg crossbow have an increased chance to kill before knockout. If you are forced to use one of these, use dododex to check how many hits it takes before it flees, shoot it one less than this number, drop a sleeping bag and your gear and let it kill and eat you. This heals it enough to then finish it off without risk of death. Obviously requires a trap or cliff etc to do this safely. Not had one die on me since figuring this out. Before it was around 1 in 3 or 4 chance of death with crossbow. Shocking tranq darts are the way to go if you have them.

Use a longneck or good crossbow, a normal one will probably kill the bear.

High levels need a trap unless you are able to find high ground or can tank the bears high damage. They are found in redwoods.

This is the best tame in the game fits in some caves, slapped out everything it came across.

Do not use tranq arrows, they have low health so it has a high chance to kill them because tranq arrows do more damage, instead use tranq darts

Get a balm and Carno kibble they should tame after 1 or 2 balms

Like modern bears it is an omnivore feed it carno kibble if u want,but I recommend giant bee honey and modern bears also eat bee honey.

Best animal in the game. (Rather than kapro because kaprosuchus is life) Dire bears collect fiber like crazy, berries like a pro and can take on low level alpha rexes.

if you want to tame one easily, heres a good tip:

if your starting off, the best place go find these guys are in the redwoods. Stay within a level 10-30 if your beginning. 40+ can be for intermediate, or if you've tamed one before.

Id suggest using the rifle with darts or the shocking darts as its easier and takes less time (you can also use a compund bow and the toxicant arrows).

start by taking 4 metal foundations, and placing them into a square formation (2x2), then take 6 NORMAL (not double) doorframes and placing them on each side, leave one side open. Then place a metal dino gate on that one side with a door.

Then, find your direbare and use a small tame like a raptor or terror bird, or an animal that can jump (bary, iguanodon, etc.) and jump over or go through the little doorway that youve placed. The start tranqing the bear.

To tame one of these monsters you have to use darts and not arrows because they have low health and it will just kill it but be very careful because they are speedy and do lots of damage

Me wondering why ppl spamming tranq darts so they can knock out;-;

I prefer using toxicant bc it is cheaper by a lot

For toxicant arrows get:

Stone arrow (1)

Polymer(2)

Bio toxin (10)

You might need 10 toxicant arrows to knock one out

If you have decent armor and decent movement speed, find a hive, grab some honey, drop your butt and run. Tamed a 145 dire bear in no time with just 1 hive. (May have been 2x taming event though) or drop a bed nearby and if you get bee’d to death just spawn back in and grab the honey off your body. I don’t think the bees stay aggro. I wouldn’t use arrows, mr bear got pretty bloody even using darts.

Soo the babies for these guys go through food really fast & I didn't know this until it died on me...soo make sure your constantly shoving food into its inventory since the babies dont eat from troughs..rip my first dirbear babdy

I used mejoberries to tame it.I know it wasn't the best choice but had soothing balm. Soon it was tamed!!! I named it Teddy.I rode teddy using the saddle and Teddy is very strong.i like dire bears they look awesome!

If you're lazy like me and don't want to use tranq darts, you can use arrows but make sure to take a snow owl and heal it when it starts getting bloody otherwise you will kill it.

They are omnivores witch is very unique they'll eat either Berry's or meat making them easier tames and easier upkeep

If you do t have rifle and darts take xbow and owl to heal the bear when knocking it out

Nothing about this creature but i tame and knock out creatures that are around level 60+ but i do tame high levels! Its just hard to find them

How to tame

Note:I really recommend use soothing balm for a high level on if you were on mobile

step 1:get raw prime meat(of course you can use giant honeycomb)

step 2:find a rock trap(unless you wanna die)

step 3:shoot it with ur tranq dart(don’t use arrow,it usually kill it)

step 4:he fall sleep,tame it with ur raw prime meat(also works with crops cause it a bear,but raw prime meat and honey will do better)

step 5:now you got a high damage,and fast beast

Try using soothing balm thats a good trick
