The most risk free and effective taming method is to

1. Build a taming pen

2. Lure or drop him in

3. Build a bed and storage chest next to it

4. Tranq the bear until he starts to show blood

5. Put your inventory in chest

6. Let the bear kill and eat you.

8. Respawn in bed, get inventory and finish tranqing. No need to switch to a bow or use traps.

This is very effective because the bear will regenerate a lot of health from eating you. And you will have no risk knocking it out. If you do this correct, maybe even kill yourself twice, you can get the bear to be at 80-100% health when you knock it out. Thus increasing chances of it surviving it someone/something hits it.

I was strolling in redwoods with my ptera Then I spot a lvl 14 spino and lvl 10 direbear rumbling, I thought to myself “That direbear is done for” all of sudden Spino goes flying in the air . Better watch out this direbears getting pretty strong 😦🤜

Ok, so knock out method first then the actual taming method. I didn't trap mine, but I did this on a PC. I knocked out a low level one simply using narco arrows. I stuffed its belly with regular raw meat, waited and had myself a direbear. Prime meat may work better, I'm not sure.

These guys are really freaking fast! They collect more berries when using the swipe ability, and are very strong! I recommend putting stats into melle, stamina, and health.

Bear is bad but it’s good enough to like but not good enough to be good

To that random tip: a Wild bear does not hit harder than Rex or Spino. Rex at 100% deals 62 while Spino deals 60 on secondary attack, wild bears only use bite which deals 50. They get the same stat increase which is 5% so a bear can never deal more damage than a Rex with the same stat distributions. Nor is it recorded anywhere that a bear, wild or tamed, has any special bullet resistance beyond the universal 30% firearm resistance. We do have eyes.

Does anyone have eyes anymore or does a max level dire bear in the WILD hit hard than all the specs like spino and Rex i mean Max bear does 300 dmg, a Rex does about 180 and Max Spino does 210 (260 with hydro buff) a bit of health breeding and I’m pretty sure you just made a glass cannon like the bear. A bullet-proof glass cannon but hey stick to the dumb Rex who still after all these years biggest opp is one big pebble to get stuck on. I mean hey atleast them spino fans don’t deal with that the lucky bastards.

This is a 2 people tame. So dire bears are quick so one person is going to need to be a sacrifice and is quick enough to get far each time and your going to build a quick stone base and bring it in there and. The other person needs to be to shoot because it will break it but if you do it right it should break it right before you knock it out
