The most risk free and effective taming method is to
1. Build a taming pen
2. Lure or drop him in
3. Build a bed and storage chest next to it
4. Tranq the bear until he starts to show blood
5. Put your inventory in chest
6. Let the bear kill and eat you.
8. Respawn in bed, get inventory and finish tranqing. No need to switch to a bow or use traps.
This is very effective because the bear will regenerate a lot of health from eating you. And you will have no risk knocking it out. If you do this correct, maybe even kill yourself twice, you can get the bear to be at 80-100% health when you knock it out. Thus increasing chances of it surviving it someone/something hits it.
Best way to tame these is to build a little 2x2 stone fence foundation square, a stone Dino gate at one end a stone doorway at the other and fill the rest with stone window frames. Lure it in the gateway, run our the doorway, tranq safely through the window frames
Direbears are deadly when aggro'd so try to trap them in a ramp box. Use darts, as even an ascendant crossbow will porobably kill them. Great for carrying weight, crossing distances, and gathering fiber, meat, and berries.
Unless you have a very powerful character/mount, I would suggest to keep a good distance away from these magnificent beasts. They have a surprisingly small aggro range, but their melee damage is IMMENSE, and can kill even high level mounts with relative ease. It is honestly best to just leave them alone, as they don't even give that many resources when you harvest them, and you can easily lose an extremely valuable tame. Take it from me: I've lost two amazing wolves to these beasts, once from inexperience, once from being unable to escape due to having no stamina.
Direbear has no pause time between hits. The attack has no push back on its end no matter the level. Just think of it as non-stop hit for hit if you're cornered. End result death. But can be avoided because Agro circle is very small (3 foot away from direbear will be its agro circle.) making it easy for a head start run in case you try to tame.
If they start to run after a first few shots stay where you are and stay on a rock or somewhere it can't get you it will deal massive damage I lost a lv 129 baryonyx to a level 50 run in a zig zag it gains speed faster it runs straight
