Encountering Tips

How do I kill a deathworm? deathworm battling strategies in ARK: Survival Evolved.
Get a few hoverskifts
Paint all but one black
Have your friends chase you with them
Fly right over an alpha one and have it destroy them
There you go you’ve re-enacted star wars
In order to fight death worms, get a rex with around 10k health and 200% melee damage. This lets you tank it while dealing loads of damage.
What’s that rumbling underneath the desert sand? A death worm and if your I’ll prepared your probably dead! So let’s talk about them!
Appearance: Mud brown exoskeleton, with 2 legs on each side of the segmented exoskeleton, it’s face is similar to that of stag Beatles’ mandibles, with large legs dangling underneath them.
Where would you find one?: [MAJOR WARNING: these are extremely dangerous if you aren’t prepared] To find one simply traverse the border of scorched earth.
What do they do?: In lore, they were meant to terminate ANY survivors that try to exit the border, and they do this very efficiently. This is do to their massive health pool, their intimidating size, and the ability to come out of nowhere if your not paying attention. (So basically they’re the Gandalf’s of arks border: “you. SHALL-NOT! PASS!!!”)
Is there a reason to come face to face with one?: If your a low level… definitely not. If your a high level survivor with a fully imprinted tank of a tame, like a wyvern. Then yes there is a reason for killing them. Reason number 1 They are the only source of death worm horns (I know ironic right?). Reason number 2: The XP you gain when killing one.
Of course there’s also reasons not to mess with one: Their massive health pool. On top of being the equivalent to a reaper king Giga hybrid, it’s capable of taking huge chunks of health from your tame. If you run into one on accident without a tame, run while you still can or you can consider your self all sorts of dead.
Additional facts:
*Deathworm horns can be used to quickly tame a mantis
*Deathworms can ONLY traverse terrain while underground, while underground they sacrifice the ability to attack you, the same goes for you attacking it.
*deathworms can be detected by the bump of moving sand towards its target, they only attack survivors.
*When deathworms can’t reach the target, it has to go underground to get closer, before then being able to hit the target.
*Deathworms are around 1/4 taller than a giganotasaurus

Me: NO
My Friend: What Happened?
Me: I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT
My Friend: Oh Did All Of Your Tames Get Killed By That Deathworm Again?
Me: NOT JUST MEH TAMES 😟🤕😠
Use the horns to tame mantises for mantis kibble then you can get rock golems
The absolute easiest way to fight these is with a megatherium, any level will work just make sure you have a bug buff active and you can chainsaw through even alphas with ease.
On Ragnarok I had the 'best' surprise ever and encountered one not knowing what the heck was happening I was gathering meat from killing animals and noticed some dust following me I stayed to see what it was and a giant worm appeared and killed my pteranodon and me along with it
You find these things in the open part if the desert in Ragnarok. You really just need a good level Thyla and you should be fine. There a bit overrated, trust me I used to live in the desert. Mantises are tamed with Deathworm horns.
Since everyone else's tips are stupid. If you want to find a deathworm, you can use k mode and look underground. If a worm is nearby, you will see it's body. You can use a land mount like a thyla or a flyer like the wyvern. If flying, point the flyer downwards to make controlling easier. As for fighting it....use whatever dino you have. Rexes are great, wyverns too. Wolves are effective against the worms as well as the alpha to. If you plan to live out on the dunes in SE, be prepared to have random encounters time to time. These worms CAN destroy thatch-stone-adobe. My solution was to just use my rex army but wolves work great early game.
How to kill this demon

You just need a good thyla...
WHY IS EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT USING LIGHTNING WYVERNS AND YUTYS? Please explain.
again, LIGHTNING WYVERN.
DO NKT FIGHT THESE WITH A REX OR A GIGA OR WHATEVER USE A LIGHTNING WYVERN OR A GRIFFIN or something that you can hover with and shoot so he can’t touch you.
DONT FIGHT HIM HEAD ON HE WILL KILL YOU WITHOUT DOUBT
me= *lands in dessert*
me=*sees sand blobs moving towards me*
deathworm= “YOU PICKED THW WRONG HOUSE FOOL”
me=shitshitshitSHIT RUN
lightning wyvern.
extra efficient
Steal high level wyvern eggs, imprint them & it’s an easy kill.
Use Sword and a mastercraft shield. Block worm's attack, then attack it twice and put your shield up quickly for worm's next attack. Rinse lather repeat. If you get knocked back too far the sword won't hit. Maintain push towards the worm to stay close while shielding. Practice the timing. When looking for them. Go on foot. They will find you. When u see a dust circle on ground in front, put your shield up for worm's surprise attack and jus keep up the pattern I mentioned. You can it twice after every block. That's how its done on foot.
This thing got the jump on me and 1 shot me but my maewing somehow managed to kill it so it’s good to always have a high level maewing with you
Over on Fjordur one can find an impressive array of overdone DeathWorm roasts scattered throughout Volcano Island. Considered a delicacy by any assortment of heat loving creatures, the cooked DeathWorm has oft by critics been compared to the consistency of beach-raised Dodo. In recent studies, the consumption of thoroughly cooked DeathWorm (though viewed by some as quite grotesque), has been found to be a great source of DeathWorm Horn - a vital component in the Ark Player diet.
For those wondering
You can find these demons in an ice cave on Ragnarok. I do not recommend going unprepared-
