What are tips for cryolophosaurus? Tips and strategies for cryolophosaurus in ARK: Survival Ascended & Evolved.
Just tamed a 145 with two primitive wooden shields and some materials for repairs. Reflect the torpor spit back at him and duck behind a rock (or thatch wall on a wooden fence foundation) for the ice breath. Use the opportunity wile ducking to swap and repair your shields. Feed mutton or kibble and done! Credit: syntac
They spawn in snow biome in Lost Colony but they will be coming to other maps soon.
Find the crylo. Place a foundation and a wall down before you aggro. Stand behind the wall for the freezing breath. Step out with your shield to reflect the ice balls. I’ve breath starts, step back behind the wall. One ascendant metal shield is all it took.
A lot of people are over prepping for this. One stone foundation. One stone wall. One primitive metal shield. Reflect spit, step behind wall during breath attack. It will not close distance with you. The biggest hurdle in taming these things is trying to contend with everything else.
Word of caution. They do not always follow the same attack pattern. Sometimes they will perform back to back breath attacks. Also, they drop torp extremely quickly. Outside of that, it's one of the easiest tamss in the game.
My advice is to trap it using gates but LEAVE GAPS- Just enough so it can spit at you, but not escape. Also means that incase you get knocked out, it can’t get to ya. But cmon, bring sleeping bags!!
Takes longer than you think to knock out, but well worth it- no need for tranq darts ever again!
Position yourself behind a rock on a fairly level field to hide from breath cloud attack. Slide out of cover shield down, they seem to cloud breath immediately if you are shielded. Shield up to reflect blue torpor shots back at him, if no hit marker change angle or drop//raise shield again quickly. Have a friend shoot with tranq darts or better from a distance to help speed up knockout. 140 or better will break metal shield before finished so carry spare.
Finaly a real use for shields
You do not need a riot shield as a metal shield works just as good, make sure to keep hitting the torpor spit back at it until it knocks out, then feed mutton/kibble.
Tamed 145 half used appreciate metal shield
Tamed a 145 and was super easy.
1. Lure dino to flat land and it will pretty much stay in the exact same spot the whole time.
2. Put down a dino gate with door so u can hide from breath. The gate should be perpendicular to the dino and off to the side a bit so the line of sight from u to dino should be clear.
3. Step out and the dino will shoot ice balls at u and during this time keep your shield up. Should shoot 2-5 balls before breath attacks.
4. It Always does 2 breath attacks in a row. During this time just hide behind the gate.
5. After second breath just rinse and repeat.
I used no brews but they are good to have. Prim flak is fine.
Each ball did roughly 300 torpor damage and the 145 had 38k max torpor. I had a bat out and it just stayed behind the gate the whole time.
Very easy tame if done this way. Only twice did it seem to deagro but was only for a few seconds and it didn't move at all.
You need a good metal shield to deflect the torpor spit back to it, then feed mutton or kibble :O
ppl be nuts just shoot with tran darts not hard
Use a shield to reflect its projectiles back at it to cause it to gain torpor. Alternatively you can also just knock it out through regular means but it has a massive Torpor bar and it may take a long time. When it does it's icy breath attack make sure to run away or hop on a tanky mount because you'll most likely get frozen.
At max level damage with shock darts you can ko them with a longneck I got a 510dmg one and a net mod and you can ko them with that its crazy
Use a rock or a tree to side step behind for the breath attack, could probably just use a pillar or a wall. Just tamed a 145 easily.
You can ABSOLUTELY trap this to tame it if you want to. It's not particularly easy to get it in the trap. I had to run up to it a few times to get it to chase and not fire spit or breath.
Use a dino gate, then triangles down to one block. Make a 2 block hallway. Walls 2x high so it doesn't jump out. Ceilings if you want to be safe. At the end of the hallway, hit the button that changes the wall to the doorway WITHOUT any wall space above it. Stack 2x high.
Position yourself directly behind that opening about 50 feet back...fence foundation and a wall for cover from the breath. No chasing. No de-aggro. No other wild creatures messing up your tame...Good idea to place a bed just in case...it's going to be a long tame.
