The falling tides chap 1
Dylan wakes slowly, waves softly greeting him. Strange calls surrounding the air. The sun coming from just beyond the trees. Another dream he ponders. But the pinching peck of a bird breaks his thoughts. “Where am I, where’s by bed and my everything… AND WHAT IS IS MY ARM!?”.
It was metal unlike anything he’d ever seen. slightly luminous and dug deep in his skin and bone. But he was too focused on the world around him. He noticed a strange bird. “ wait I know what you are. I saw you in the museum field trip. Dodo I think.” It cawed back slightly as if responding. “ wait didn’t these die due to hunting?” His senses shifted to the other side of the river. Large scaley beasts, triceratops he thought. The sky was speckled with reptile like birds. “ these all went extinct….. what’s happening to me?”
His stomach grumbled. “ I’d better get breakfast “. as he picked the berries something shot through him. As if he’d seen this somewhere else. Dylan was a champion gamer, he loved survival games. He’d had his eyes on gameplay trailers from the Ark. a game releasing today. A game so real you’d think your in it, the description read. He though hard about this… and the 50 dollars he spent to pre order the game.

“Why nightwind “. Dylan replied “ mostly colors but also because of a cat I had”. Nightwind was a larger than average size therizenosaurus. He was feathered from head to tail. He was mostly black with white and blue gray highlights. “Welcome to the village Nightwind”. Dylan asked “ nice to meet you I’m Dylan”. He said this to the dinosaur and the chief. The chief replied “ nice to meet you as well, and welcome to our village.”
Mr Yen spoke up “ you, Dylan if your gonna be part of this village we need to get you a proper weapon” “ what type would you want?”
Dylan had played baseball. He had a really head on powerful swing with good accuracy. A sword could be pared well with that swing. “ Mr Yen how bout a sword”. Mr yen replied “ What kind of handle and any tipping?” Dylan answered “ nice firm handle and maybe Obsidian, that’s pretty good and sharp”. “ firm handle….. obsidian tipped I can do that.” “ I’ll need some materials though, from the swamp.” Dylan confidently answered “ I’ll go, piece of cake” . The chief interrupted “ let’s discuss this whole swamp expedition thing tomorrow, ok.” “Ok”
Later that night the world seemed frozen. Their world. Three pillars forced them to survive, and to come to this strange place. Beams of light ran from pillar to pillar. Stars of the land shone throughout the entire island. Speks of blue green and red twinkled in the midnight. But one solitary light gleamed high in the mountains. Orange . Another in deepest depths. Purple . A third wading by a river. Yellow . The implants of old had been exposed. Step one completed. Omega protocol ready.

They stomped off east toward the most wretched swamp ever. Dylan had been to the Everglades, or what was left of them when hurricane Death pulled through Florida. But this reeked worse than being next to a nuclear power plant using skunk juice as fuel. Sarah screeched “ GIAGNTIC BUG!” It was true an extremely large dragonfly passed them. “I don’t think this is the gigantic bug he was talking about Sarah”. She tried to hide her humiliation “ I still hate bugs all kinds. But I hate those little earwigs and wasps the most.” Dylan sternly told her “ no more screaming, or we really might find that gigantic bug”. Sarah shivered. They kept their eyes peeled for a medium sized crocodile. They didn’t relize however the many mouths already watering.
Dylan informed her. “Some crocodiles hide in the water with their nostrils out, looking like a log at a glance. They also have a habit to jump and ambush their prey”. Sarah sarcastically added “ Makes me feel sooooo much safer”. The many pieces of driftwood had a glossy water worn look. But one rough and large drifted faster, and faster, and faster. SNAP! With a splash and a leap a crocodile grappled onto nightwinds leg. He shrieked and shot his sharp claws down the crocodiles throat. The beast moaned and groaned and its heart haltered to a stop. “That was easy” Dylan looked at the rough skin on the croc. Without hesitation he scraped the skin off with his hatchet. Sarah climbed off “How is that the medium one it’s huge. Imagine how big the bigger one is”. Then they turned around, and the gigantic jaws of death set its eyes upon them.
“RUUUUNN!!!!” They climbed on nightwind as he limped away. “What is that thing it’s bigger than nightwind” . It was an alligator-like behemoth. Probably the size of and elephant. Definitely longer though. It was also fast, too fast. “HEY DYLAN!” “WHAT!?” “ MAYBE IF WE GIVE IT FOOD IT WILL LEAVE US ALONE!”. Dylan quickly took the meat of the skin. It was catching up. As it opened its mouth Sarah tossed pieces in. They kept this up but nightwind was getting more hurt by the step and the croc was catching up. With the last piece of meat it stopped. It stared its blank eyes on Sarah and started walking slowly. It let out a hiss and curled up. Still keeping its eyes on Sarah. As nightwind could run no more they were forced to get off. The croc slowly approached Sarah, hissed and curled up. With its mouth closed it moved its head to her hand. She jumped at this but the big lizard did it again. The top of its wide jaw pressing against her palm. It’s heavy heartbeat and strong breath heightened more and more until…. It rolled on its belly looking at her.

The morning started bright and early as the raptors cawed. Sarah had been in the food quarters for at least an hour. Dylan walked in and broke the silence “ How ya doin?” She was startled “oh it’s you” “sorry I was just pondering” “I, had a dream last night”. “About what” Dylan asked. “About home” “it was all great in 2042 just hanging out with Valerie” “ But then the world above us seemed to shift, and the island started growing out of the ground” “A barrier separated me from Valerie” “I miss her”. Dylan sympathized “ I miss my mom, she’s the only one I have left” “well besides Nightime, my cat” “We’ll get out of here and find everything we missed” “ I promise”. Dylan changed the subject “ Well I’m gonna be heading to the swamp now soo…” “Wait!” Sarah blurted “ can I come with?”
As they walked outside they were greeted by Mr Yen “ Good day!” He tapped his implant and pulled up that strange menu again. He tossed down a strange ball of energy. Dylan picked it up and felt an extremely heavy surge of weight. He tapped his implant and saw a saddle. “NIGHTWIND!” Nightwind quickly scampered out of his nap. As he tapped the saddle icon it materialized in front of him. Nightwind got down on all fours and Dylan equipped the saddle. Nightwind spun around in joy and urged Dylan on.
“Well somebody certainly wants to be ridden” Mr Yen added “but you’ll need him if you are going alone “ He’s not” Sarah interrupted. Mr Yen warned her “It’s too dangerous on foot!” “She can ride with me” Dylan protested. She nodded and they both climbed on. “Mr Yen joked “ well don’t leave without knowing what your looking for!” He quickly switched to a serious tone “ you need to find kill and harvest a medium sized crocodile” “ the giant snails frogs salamanders and elephant things are safe” “ the Dino’s scorpions and snakes are dangerous” “ watch out for giant leeches” “ but there are three things you need to watch out for the most “ “ the little crocodiles the gigantic ones and the gigantic bug” “those are deadly” they all nodded as the two set off.

“ Welcome to our humble village “, “ it’s best village east side of the footpaw”. Dylan questioned “ footpaw?” . Sarah replied “ that’s what we call that peninsula over there “. She quickly changed the subject. “ Well over here we have the blacksmith, and the farmer I guess” . Dylan intruded “ so why are you giving me the tour”. Sarah sighed “ well I don’t know anyone here well ,and neither do you I’m suspecting”. “ I’ve seen these people on the streets “ Dylan argued . Sarah responded “ We are thinking this is just a random selection of people from different places around the world.” “Mr yen the blacksmith is Japanese, but he can forge a real good katana.”
They are interrupted by a loud banging of brass and iron . Sarah shouted “ The attack bell, something’s here!” Wood scraped and scratched and their walls were penetrated by long sharp claws. A loud roar pierced the air and the walls crumbled to splinters “ EVERYBODY GEAR UP “ a man’s voice blurted. Sarah grabbed some materials and instantly materialized a spear “how did you…” “NO TIME”
She handed the spear to Dylan and grabbed some gloves with large clawed knuckles off her back. They rushed to the fight. The beast took out houses and houses as it was pelted with spears and arrows. “EVERBODY ITS HURT SWITCH TO TRANQ ARROWS” as someone ran around with a strange liquid with a horrific smell Dylan dipped his spear in. “ WE’RE ALL OUT OF ARROWS” As the fight raged on the monster set its eyes directly on Dylan. “Um this is like Javelin right it’s got to be right?” With all his might he threw his spear and the beast fell to the earth. As he went in for a killing blow someone stopped him. “Feed it” Sarah exclaimed. “ FEED IT? FEED IT WHAT “ dylan asked. “ “Let’s see, it has dull teeth and no canines …. Berries it eats berries” Dylan grabbed a couple of berries and it ate from his hands “your really lucky” Sarah jealously said “ whoever knocks it out tames it” “I’ve never tamed anything”. Dylan said in a surprised tone “ Woah woah woah your saying I’m gonna have a pet dinosaur?!” “Well……… yes”.
It ate the last of the berries and stomped and staggered up and looked softly at Dylan. Tense and terrified he reached his hand out and scratched its chin. It jumped and cuddled next to him. Its sheer gigantic size toppled him over . The village leader asked him “ what are you going to name him “. Dylan answered “how about……. Nightwind”.

If people were on this island other than him he needed to find out. The question was what kind of people were here. Friends, strangers, or anything in between could be roaming. Not to mention loads of prehistoric creatures. He noticed in the clickbait and data-mines going in on the game there seemed to be saddles. Maybe he could ride something? But then something struck down knocking him onto his back
A white beam in a small basin of land had appeared right in front of him
It contained a large capsule, almost straight out of the alien movie. It extended its 4 legs and landed. It seemed approachable. As he got to it his implant reacted and suddenly the capsule almost evaporated. He felt a heavy surge of weight. He accidentally tapped his implant and a menu appeared in it he saw a makeshift hatchet and pickaxe. His amazement was short lived as a stone hit him and knocked him cold.

“Come on already” “you have everything”. “I’m going weather you like it or not”. The beam shot him up and sent Jameson back to his village. “ARK CLEAN NO SIGNS OF LIFE”. And for the third time, he was left on the clean ark. No family at home, probably dead. Nobody knew. And he started his fires and began repairing his village.

“What?” The giant lizard had Sarah puzzled in every part of her brain. “You want more food don’t you”. the beast lightly chomped. “Ok hold on”.
She silently pulled out her therizenosaurus claw gauntlets. She spotted a large fish. She stabbed it and fed it directly to the gator. It rushed at her with its head down and flung her onto its back. “OOOOOOWWWWWW” “buddy don’t do that again” “your back it rough”
Dylan interrupted “hey Sarah rap it up nightwinds ready” they climbed on but the gator wouldn’t stop following them. Until it perked its head and scrambled into the water. Everything was acting strangely. Until they heard a helicopter like thrum.
A giant mosquito-wasp-dragonfly emerged from the trees. It let out a shriek and everything ran. Nightwind was shot by a sticky projectile. One leg damaged, the other leg gooped. They were sitting ducks. “ So do we really die if we die” “ I’m not really sure” . They both screamed but a familiar toothy face leaped from the water and pulled it down. The gator was struggling to fight it but it let out a fierce roar, charged its fury and bit the insect in two. The gator looked blankly at Sarah. “ Hey Sarah, I think you just tamed your first creature”. And they all set off tword the village.
“What ya mean it ain’t ready” “everything has gots to go to plan”. The man staggered off. The orange gleam on the holographic layout pinpointed by a symbol. “Hey come check this out” “yes what is it”. One of them doesn’t have the right protocol” . The man from before stepped in. “ WHAT!!” He added angrily “THEY CANT FIND OUT THEY CANT KNOW!” “Sir we are picking up some energy from r23” “ r23, that is the same ark!” “You better fix these problems or you ain’t gonna like it” “also make that group of people in the meadow suffer” and with the click of a button dots slowly disappeared, never to be seen. “When the r23 problem has been fixed start The Protocol.
