You don't have to go underwater to kill these guys, just stay on land, and kill them with ranged weapons: bow/crossbow/pistol/etc to get revenge for your loved dinos...

These people in the comments are over exaggerating them, I kill these things with my bare hands, you can use them to help tame animals when the thing is low and you need a bit longer for them to wait so you can get food feed them these things it will help keep them asleep/knocked out, you can use your hands, a spear, a axe, anything
